Cyril's POV
Shirley's face drained of color, her voice quivering. "H-how do you know all this?"
The woman standing before me was as dense as a brick wall—utterly unworthy of my time. Five years of my life, wasted on her. I mentally smacked myself twice for being such a terrible judge of character.
"Shirley, did you really think you could hide it from me?" I scoffed. "Too bad you forgot who I am. I told you—I'm Cyril Martin, Washington's golden boy."
Her frown deepened, convinced I was bluffing. She thought this was some twisted ploy to manipulate her.
Then, in a desperate move, she lunged forward, clutching my arm. "Cyril, tell the Securities Commission the evidence is fake! Say you made it all up because you wanted me back! If you help me, I'll do anything!"
I shoved her off with a disgusted flick of my wrist. "Too late. You're out of chances."
Her eyes burned with fury as she hissed, "Clear my name, and I'll marry you."
Before I could respond, Digby charged at me like a raging bull. "You bastard, Cyril! You ruined everything just to steal my wife! You think we'll bow to some pretty boy like you? Screw going public—I'll kill you first!"
His fist flew toward my face, but I caught his wrist mid-air, squeezing just hard enough to make him wince.
"Save your breath, Digby. Right now, you should be more worried about yourself."
Confusion twisted his face. "What the hell are you talking about?"
Birds of a feather, truly. Even with disaster crashing down, they still couldn't see the writing on the wall.
Out of sheer pity, I spelled it out for him. "You really think Shirley will protect you? She can't even save herself. You honestly believe she'll take the fall for you?"
His face went sheet-white. He whipped toward Shirley, desperation clawing at his voice. "Shirley… you wouldn't abandon me… right?"
Just as I predicted, she stared at him like he was garbage, her voice icy. "You dug your own grave, Digby. Lie in it."
Digby staggered back as if struck. Then, with a venomous sneer, he jabbed a finger at her stomach. "You're carrying my child, and you're still throwing me under the bus?!"
Her entire body locked up. "What did you say?"
He yanked out a crumpled medical report and shoved it into her hands. "You're pregnant."
Shock, fury, disbelief—her face cycled through them all in seconds. She grabbed his shoulders, shaking him violently. "Why the hell didn't you tell me sooner?!"
Digby sagged like a deflated balloon. "I was going to tell you today… but now… Now everything's ruined."
The crowd buzzed, putting together the ugly puzzle from their outbursts. Shirley's legs gave out, and she stumbled back, ghostly pale and trembling.
I watched, unmoved. Not an ounce of sympathy stirred in me.
Then, the exchange doors burst open. A squad of officers marched in, their badges gleaming. "Miss Shirley Davison, Mr. Digby Goodwin—Securities Commission and Public Security Bureau. You're coming with us."
Shirley collapsed to the floor, her voice a broken whisper. "It's over… It's all over…"
Maybe it was the stress, maybe the aftermath of their reckless night—but she suddenly doubled over, clutching her stomach in agony.
The crowd's murmurs turned to outright scorn, their insults sharper than the ones they'd hurled at me earlier.
I'd seen enough. Without a backward glance, I turned and strode out of the building.
The moment I stepped outside, a sleek black Maybach glided to a stop beside me.
