Erica
I sat at the table as I watched Terrance and Briana have a daddy-daughter dance. Tonight is one of those fancy gala's that everyone gets overly dressed for and soak up all the champagne they can. Men parading around their wives, new and old.
That's what I'm here for. Just to make Terrance look good. He never pays much attention to me at these things anyway.
My clutch vibrated against the table. I reached in and pulled my phone out. Me and Demarcus had been texting since I've been sitting in this same spot. The only reason we stopped is because he was in the gym.
We had lunch together the other day. It was our first interaction since that day in my office. We didn't even bring it up. I couldn't stop thinking about it though as I sat across from him. That menacing smile of his is lethal.
"Mom, I got you some ice cream." Briana said, as she returned to the table.
"Thank you, Baby. Where did your father go?" I asked, as I surveyed the dance floor not seeing him in sight.
"He said he'd be right back." She pulled out her cellphone and began to scroll on whatever social media site these kids are into.
Out the corner of my eye. I saw Terrance talking to another black couple. As my eyes fixated on them I noticed the same curly weave that was in my bed that night.
"Bri, I'll be right back." I scooted my chair out from under the table.
"Okay." She did not once look up from her phone.
I fixed my dress the best way I could since I had been sitting down. Making sure the wrinkles weren't that bad. I grabbed a Champagne flute from the server trays that passed me.
I approached them, interrupting their little moment. "Hey, Baby. I'm ready to go." I said lowly as I gripped on his arm tightly.
"In a minute, Baby." He smiled.
"T, why you didn't introduce us to your beautiful wife?" Her husband said.
"I'm sorry. Where are my manners?" He lightly laughed. "Greg and Olivia, this is my lovely wife Erica."
"Nice to meet you two." I smiled not even caring to reach for their hands. If my hand reached for hers I probably would've dragged her on the ground.
"That is such a bomb dress! That colors look so great on you!" Olivia said.
"Thank you, my stylist in LA picked this out for me. Your dress is beautiful as well. I could never have pulled that off." I rolled my eyes slightly.
The material looked cheap. She obviously didn't get it fitted. It was bunched up in some areas. He at least could've cheated on me with someone who had good taste.
"Terrance, how did you get so lucky to get a woman like this?" Greg said as he eyed me.
I didn't know how to read it. Is this some kind of weird shit that they're both into? Sleeping with married people?
"I ask myself that question all the time. Ain't that right, Baby?" Terrance kissed my cheek.
"You sure do!" I said dryly but it was unnoticeable to them that I was joking. "Baby, we need to get home. Briana has cheer practice in the morning."
"Happy Wife , Happy Life. If you two don't mind I have to get my two lovely ladies home."
The whole time. I looked in his eyes and noticed how he would look at her.
I went back over to the table to grab my bag and Briana. We waited for him in the car. I couldn't stand another moment in that place. I would hate to embarrass myself in front of all those people.
"You had fun, Baby girl?" Terrance looked in the rearview mirror at Briana.
"Yeah, it was fun. It's hilarious watching drunk people trying to dance."
"Yeah it is." Terrance laughed.
I was quiet. More quiet than I've been the whole night.
"You good, Baby?" He placed his hand on my thigh.
"Yeah, I'm okay." I smiled slightly.
It took us a little time to get home. Atlanta traffic is bumper to bumper. I was frustrated. I didn't want to be in the car anymore.
"Bri, go upstairs and pack a bag. We're staying at Tammy's tonight." I said as I started unstrapping my heels before I made it up the steps. Terrance was fixing something that was wrong with the car.
I got out of my dress quickly as if I was a stripper changing for her next set. I threw on some tight jeans and a t-shirt. I aimlessly walked around our closet. I grabbed a few pieces of clothes and just threw in a bag.
"Where are you going, Baby?" Terrance asked, as he saw me scrambling around. "It's almost 11:00."
"I'm leaving you."
"You what?"
He's alway had selective hearing. "I am leaving you, Terrance." I said.
"Erica," he laughed. "What is all this about? You're ruining my buzz right now, Baby." He rubbed his temples.
"All this is about you and that bitch Olivia! I met tonight!"
"Erica, Baby, I have no idea. What you're talking about." He leaned against the wall.
"Let me jog your memory. A month or so ago. You know that night I had to work late? I came home that night for a brief minute. In that brief moment as I reached the doors to come in here. I saw you and Olivia in our bed. Sounds familiar?"
His face went blank like he seen a ghost.
"What you don't have nothing to say?" I folded my arms.
"Erica, I'm so sorry, Baby."
"Save it! So tell me... all those late games you were watching with your boys.... were you really sneaking off to see her?"
He nodded.
I laugh hysterically. "I knew I wasn't crazy. How long has this been going on?"
He began to speak but I cut him off.
"You know what I don't even care. You can keep on seeing her because I'm done." I breezed passed him.
A while ago I had separation papers wrote up but I never knew when I would actually use them. I was scared to give them to him. I let the chatter from my mother telling me not to get a divorce get to me.
I looked through my nightstand drawer and found the folder I had stored them in.
"Here. You can sign these whenever but the sooner the better." I handed them to him.
"So you really gonna leave me just like that, huh?"
"What does it look like I'm doing?"
"Alright, if that's what you want. What you gonna do about keeping up with this lifestyle you have grown accustomed to? Your lil teaching job only brings in what maybe a half of what I bring in."
"I'll be alright trust me. I never wanted any of this bullshit anyway." I began to take off my Rolex and my wedding ring. "You can have it back."
"You're a ungrateful bitch, you know that? I gave you everything. I made you my wife. You know how many chicks back in HighSchool I could've chose."
There it is. His fangs are showing but I'm not scared of them anymore.
"You can call me whatever you want. Whatever makes this pill easier for you to swallow. Good! I'm glad! Maybe you should call them and see if one of them wants to take my place." I grabbed my bag and headed for the double doors.
"You're gonna be miserable without me. Watch!"
I turned around. "I was more miserable with you. I'll be perfectly fine. One more thing... while you've been having your fun and thinking I was sitting in here thinking about you. I've been having a little fun of my own."
"So what are you saying you been fucking somebody?" He walked up on me.
"Yeah, so what? You can't handle it?"
I saw the fire in his eyes. He look like he may have wanted to hit me. I knew he wouldn't. He doesn't have the balls and he also knew I have several members I could call that would be on him, before I would get the words out that he put his hands on me.
He was silent.
"Just like I thought." I turned the door handle and made my way out of the room. I looked back for a moment and saw him looking standing there looking like the fool he is.
I can't believe I didn't do this sooner.
I stood in the hallway of Demarcus's building. He's been wanting me to come over for the longest. I've been putting it off. What we're doing feels more safe and controlled at my apartment for some reason.
I wasn't even going to show up. I was going to do what I said and stay at Tammy's tonight. I dropped Briana off there. Tammy insisted I should spend the night out. I'm deserving of it after the night I had.
I heard the locks on the other side unlocking. I swallowed so hard. I don't know why I'm so nervous.
He opened the door. My body started to react at the sight of him being shirtless but I refrained the best I could.
"Hey," I smiled slightly.
"Hey, Love." He said as he leaned against the door frame. I love a man's voice when they're sleepy. It does something to me.
"Were you asleep?" I asked.
"Nah, I haven't been to sleep yet." He played it off. "I was just playing the game waiting for you to get here. Make sure you made it safely." He grinned.
"Here I am."
"Welcome to my place." He moved out of the way so I could step in.
For this to be a bachelor pad for two men in their 20s. I am pleasantly surprised. I was expecting to see pizza boxes, weed residue on the floor, pictures of sports illustrated swimsuit models plastered on the walls.
It actually look likes grown men live here.
"This is really nice. I must say I am surprised at this setup."
"Yeah, most people are. We used to be some party animals and this place used to reflect that.
"Well change is always good."
"Can I nigga get a hug or what?" He laughed.
His big arms embraced me. I wanted to stay in his arms forever. I smelled him. He smelled amazing as always. Most guys try to over do it with their scents. He gets it just right.
I felt his hands move from my waist down to my ass. He was holding onto it like it was his and he had no intentions of letting it go.
"Hey, I told you about that!" I playfully warned him.
"I don't remember you might gotta remind me." He licked his lips.
I need all the willpower I can get to not give into to temptation at this moment. Damn.
"I got something to tell you that you probably won't believe." I changed the subject.
"What?"
"I left him."
The look on his face showed he didn't believe me one bit. If I was him I wouldn't believe it either. The way I used to defend Terrance right or wrong. Anyone would think I'm still with him.
I held my left hand up where my ring used to sit so proudly and blind anyone only within a few feet of me. It feels weird that I don't have it on but I need to get used to it.
"Shit! You not playing. You really did." He snickered.
"Mhmm."
"That's wassup, I'm happy for you. So does this mean you're all mine now?"
"Well nothing is final yet but as of now we're separated. He's out of sight out of my mind." My arms got tighter around his neck. "I am all yours."
"You ain't gonna be all worrying about him anymore or his feelings?" He leaned down and started placing kissing on my neck slowly.
How on earth and am I supposed to concentrate on talking while he's doing this.
"Nope not at all."
"Good."
He leaned in. He aggressively stuck his tongue in my mouth. His lips followed. He is such a good a kisser. I try to overpower him but I can't. He is in full control.
As we started getting carried away. Which is what I've been waiting for. Something came over him. It's like a switch turned on. He pulled me away from him but he still held me.
"What's wrong why did we stop?" I asked, confused.
"I don't want this to be a pattern with us. Though, I'm the one that started it." He laughed a little bit.
"What are you talking about?"
"I don't want you to think every time I see you I wanna have sex with you. I know that's what it's been. I can't help but not want to fuck you when I'm around you," He shrugged. "But seriously, though, I care about you a lot and I don't want it to always be about me you know? I just gotta get some self control."
He is so thoughtful. I never really thought about it like that. The sex has been fine with me but I'm happy he has so much respect for me.
I held his face in my hands. "That is very noble of you. I never thought that. It's okay, I could use some self control myself."
Seriously, fooling around with him I have turned into this sex crazed woman.
"What do you want to do for the rest of the night? Be honest. It doesn't have to be sex if you don't want to." He asked, his eyes staring into my soul.
"Since you want me to be honest with you...I just want to relax. I am tired. I had a long day and a long evening. My feet hurt from wearing heels majority of the night."
"Aight, cool. That's fine with me."
I heard flip flops in the distance but they were getting closer & closer to the living room. Then appeared the infamous; Jamal, that I've heard so much about. I've never been so embarrassed.
"My bad don't mind me, Bro. I'm just getting some more cereal." He said as he went into the kitchen.
"Nah, you good." Demarcus rubbed the back of his neck. Looking at me apologizing with his eyes. "Mal, this is, Erica. Erica, this is my cousin, Jamal."
"It's nice to meet you, Jamal." I smiled.
"Nice to meet you too, Erica. Y'all have a good night."
"You too." Me and Demarcus said together.
I hit him. "Why didn't you tell me we weren't alone!"
"How was I supposed to know he was gonna come out of his room? He's usually in there for the rest of the night when I be out here chilling."
"You told him about us?" I said through gritted teeth.
"I didn't have a choice. I see this nigga everyday. He brought it out of me. Don't worry about it. He's good people, trust me."
It's hard to be mad at someone who is this damn fine. I am really tired but I also want to fuck his brains out.
Lord knows I need it.
