"This is the worst state I have ever seen a Pack in," Don said as he walked over to me. We had been walking around the Midnight Pack, speaking to the members for hours and it was getting dark. Most were too afraid to tell us what was going on in the pack. Only eleven pack members would speak about the maltreatment they had been enduring, including Layla. They wouldn't say much. All they did was say they didn't want to be there anymore and that was all we needed to hear. We told them they could come with us and that they would be safe. What upset me the most was that a lot of the women were forced to be with men who weren't their mates.
"I know. I can't believe this has been going on for so long," I replied.
"I can't help but feel this is my fault. I am the king, and I should have known this was happening. The werewolves are supposed to trust that they can tell me when something bad is happening, but they didn't," my dad said. I hated that he was blaming himself.
"Dad, you have been a great King. please don't blame yourself," I said
"I should have been better," My dad said and I frowned at him. "Okay, that is it for today. Let's head back home. We will come back tomorrow," my dad said and we headed to our car.
"King Eric. I need to speak to you," Timothy said as he walked over to our car. My dad and I turned around to look at him. "You can't just take my Pack Members away," Timothy said. This was the most I had heard him talk since we had arrived.
"First off, I can do what I want. I am the King and the one in charge. And this is not your Pack," My dad said
"I am my father's heir. This is my Pack," Timothy said
"No, I will not let you take over the Pack. There is no way I am going to let this Pack go through all the things your father put them through. You are unfit to be an Alpha," My dad said
"We will see about that. I am sure the council will agree with me," Timothy said
"In case you have forgotten. I am the Werewolf King. That means I am over the council. My word is law, which means you will never become Alpha. You will be lucky to get out of this without punishment; if anyone tells me that you helped your father in their treatment. You will be punished severely, just like your father is going to be," my dad said. Then, he turned around, and we got in the car. Timothy and Beta Marco glared at us as we drove away.
It was after eight at night when we made it back to the castle. Sof, Stacie, and my mom walked out of the castle as soon as we arrived. I had mind-linked Sof, letting her know we were bringing Pack Members from Midnight Pack back with us and my dad had mind-linked my mom the same thing.
Once we got out of the car, I wrapped my arms around Sof and inhaled her amazing scent. "I missed you, My Love," I said.
"I missed you to," Sof replied.
"The members of the Midnight Pack who came back to the castle with us got out of their cars, and we walked over to where they were standing.
My dad told some of the workers to show them to their rooms. I had Layla and her little sister Brittany stay behind. "Layla, this is my mate and your future Queen, Sofia," I said
"Hello, My Queen," Layla said as she kneeled to Sofia.
"You don't have to kneel to me, Layla, and you can call me Sofia," Sof said with a smile. Then she looked at Brittany. "Hello, Sweety," Sofia said to the sleepy Brittany, who didn't reply.
"Layla is a senior like us. I thought you two could get to know each other," I said
"That sounds like a good idea. How about I show the two of you to your rooms," Sofia said. I wanted to introduce them to each other personally because I thought they could get along and possibly Sofia would be able to get her to speak about what she went through at the Midnight Pack.
"You don't have to. I am sure you have better things to do instead of taking me to my room," Layla said
"Nonsense, I want to show you to your room," Sof replied. She kissed my lips softly before walking away with Layla and Brittany.
"Mate," I heard Jason say. I turned my head to see him standing in front of Layla, who was shivering in fear.
"I am sorry. Did I scare you?" Jason said and then Layla started to run with Brittany in her arms.
"What did I do?" Jason asked worriedly
"It's a long story."
