Sofia's Point of View
The ride back to the castle was quiet. Ethan drove while I sat in the passenger seat, and Ella sat in the back. I knew Ethan was upset with me for leaving without talking to him first. I could feel anger and sadness through the mate bond.
"Sof and I will be in in a minute. I need to talk to her," Ethan said. Ella got out of the car and left us alone.
"I am sorry, Ethan. I shouldn't have left without talking to you about what I saw first," I said
"You are right, Sofia. You shouldn't have left," Ethan said. His voice was calm, but I knew he was upset with me.
"I know. I was upset because I thought you were cheating on me. I didn't know what to do, so I ran," I said
"Yeah, you ran, and there is no telling what would have happened if the guards hadn't been there when King Lestat showed up. There is no way he was there for a meeting about your future. I am sure he had other plans. I know he wants you to be his own, and I am sure he was planning on taking you away from me," Ethan said.
"You don't think he was there to talk about my future?" I asked
"I know he wasn't there to talk about your future, Sofia," Ethan replied with a serious look on his face.
"But my mom," I started to say, but he cut me off.
"I am sure your mom is working with him, Sof. I mean, she told him about what happened today. Why would she tell him that?" Ethan asked, and I thought about it. It did seem weird that she would talk to him about me. They are not friends and don't know each other, so why would she talk to him about something so personal? "Also, don't you think it's a little strange for her to show up here uninvited right after you caught Lacy kissing me? Then you get to her house, and King Lestat is there to talk about your future. It sounds like too much of a coincidence," Ethan said. I thought about what he was saying, and I had to agree that all of that was too convenient. Ethan put his hand on mine, causing me to look at him.
"Look, Sof. I know she is your mom and all but I don't trust her. When she came over saying she wanted a chance to be your mom I had a feeling she was up to something. First, I thought it had something to do with your dad but now I am sure King Lustat told her to get close to you or something," Ethan said
"Why would he do that?" I asked
"So that she could gain your trust and help with whatever plan he has," Ethan replied.
"I don't know, Ethan. My mom and I have never been close but I don't think she would hurt me like that," I said and Ethan sighed.
"Why don't you think she would hurt you like that? I am not trying to hurt your feelings or anything but your mom has never had your best interest at heart. She has only thought about herself. She gave you a potion that could have killed your wolf. She kept that fact that you are part witch and part werewolf a secret. She has never treated you the way a mother should. I believe she would do anything to protect herself," Ethan said and I couldn't stop the tears from falling from my eyes. I knew he was right but that didn't make it hurt any less.
Ethan reached for me and placed me on his lap. I was straddling him while we were in the drivers seat. "I am sorry, My Love. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. I am only trying to be honest. We can't trust your mom," Ethan said as he rubbed my back
"I know. I am sorry for leaving. I know everything could have ended badly. I hate it when you are mad at me," I said and Ethan sighed
"I am not mad at you, My Love," Ethan said and I looked him into the eye
"You're not?" I asked
"No, I am not. I admit I was a little disappointed earlier but I was mostly scared that something would happen to you. I don't know what I would do if I lost you. I wouldn't be able to live without you. I love you more than anything in the world," Ethan said
"Dissappointed sounds a lot like being mad," I said and Ethan chuckled.
"Let's make a rule. No matter what happens. No matter what we think we see. No matter what anyone tells us. We won't react until we speak to each other," Ethan said
"That sounds like a good idea."
