My brother frowned deeply. "Liane, is it true you're in debt and sold the company?"
I started to shake my head when Victor suddenly pushed through the crowd.
"Now it all makes sense," Victor sneered. "No wonder you've been badmouthing me and Erin. You're the one who betrayed me first, and now you're trying to flip the script?"
"Victor, she's not worth your anger," Erin chimed in, wrapping herself around his arm like a possessive vine. "Even if she's latched onto some sugar daddy, she'll always be a loser."
My brother - who'd never met Victor before - narrowed his eyes dangerously. "So you're my sister's husband? She chose you over our father, and this is how you repay her? Pathetic."
Erin immediately jumped to Victor's defense. "Back off, Brandon! Nobody talks to Victor like that!"
I could see my brother's temper flaring. When Brandon got mad, things tended to get... explosive.
Honestly, I was done with this circus. "Victor," I said calmly, "let's get divorced."
His expression flickered briefly before hardening. "Fine. But you walk away with nothing."
That stung. The house had been my first major purchase after starting the company - $400,000 of mostly my money. After everything, he wanted to rob me blind too?
"Frank's obviously yours," I shot back. "But the house? Dream on."
Victor scoffed. "Nice try, Liane. If Frank isn't yours, whose kid is he supposed to be?"
I couldn't help my bitter laugh. "You know exactly whose he is. Stop playing dumb." With that, I slapped the paternity test results against his chest.
The color drained from his face as he scanned the document. That cocky smirk finally disappeared.
Before he could recover, my brother stepped in. "After everything my sister sacrificed for you, Victor? You've got this coming." He turned to me with a disappointed sigh. "Liane... your taste in men needs work."
The lump in my throat was hard to swallow. Love makes fools of us all, doesn't it?
But better late than never. "Brandon, Erin scammed me out of my store. Get corporate legal on the phone - we're suing for fraud. And draw up divorce papers."
"On it." My brother pulled out his phone. I couldn't bear to look at the two traitors anymore - just the sight of them turned my stomach.
The panic on their faces was almost satisfying. Erin had been so confident before, knowing I couldn't touch her. But with Evolv Group's resources? Even if that store had been hers fair and square, we'd still take it from her.
Just as we turned to leave, Victor's phone rang. Frank's whiny voice blasted through the speaker: "Dad! There's this sweet sports car I want. Didn't Aunt Erin promise me a present? Is she there?"
Victor cleared his throat. "Uh, yes, Erin's here. How much is this car?"
"Only like a hundred grand. She loves me, right? She'll get it for me?"
Victor turned to Erin hopefully. "Erin, about Frank's-"
"Shut. Up."
