The basement of the Vellmore estate was damp and cold, reeking of rust and decay.
Shane stood at the entrance in his crisp suit, looking completely out of place in this hellhole.
He calmly took off his watch and handed it to the bodyguard behind him, his voice eerily calm.
"Open the door."
The iron door creaked open, and in the dim light, Gina was curled up in the corner, clothes torn and filthy, hair a tangled mess.
She jerked her head up at the sound, and when she saw who it was, her eyes went wide with terror.
"Shane..." her voice was totally shot, like she'd been screaming for days. "Thank God you're here..."
She tried crawling toward him, but the second her fingers touched his shoe, he kicked her away.
*THUD!*
Gina slammed into the wall and coughed up blood. She looked up at him in disbelief, meeting those dead, cold eyes.
"Did I ever tell you not to reach for shit that doesn't belong to you?"
"I fucked up! I know I fucked up!" Gina grabbed at his pants leg, totally losing it. "Please, for our baby's sake..."
"Baby?" Shane kicked her right in the chest. "You think you deserve to mention Max?"
Gina doubled over in pain but kept crawling back to him. "Shane... please..."
Shane didn't even look at her anymore. The bodyguard stepped forward with a small orthopedic hammer.
"AHHHHH!"
Her screams echoed through the basement.
The guard held down Gina's hand and started hammering her fingers, one by one, slow and precise.
"Why'd you have to be so fucking greedy?" Shane sat down nearby, his voice almost gentle. "You already had a kid, but you still had to drive Rowena away?"
Gina almost passed out from the pain, but they splashed ice water on her to keep her conscious.
"I told you not to mess with Rowena."
*CRACK!*
"AHHHHH!"
Gina's screams got weaker and weaker until she was barely whimpering"Please just let me go,please..."
Blood poured from Gina's mouth, and she was twitching like a dying fish, but she didn't even have the strength to scream anymore.
When Shane picked up the scalpel, Gina was barely conscious.
The cold blade touched her cheek and made a thin cut.
"This one's for every wound on Rowena's body."
"This one's for grandpa."
Blood ran down Gina's face as she lay there, only the slight rise and fall of her chest showing she was still alive.
"Get a doctor down here." Shane stood up and calmly wiped his hands. "Keep her breathing. That's all."
Back upstairs, Shane stood in the nursery doorway, staring coldly at the baby in the crib.
The little life that used to fill him with joy now just made him sick.
"Contact an orphanage," he told his lawyer. "Take back all the shares and assets I gave him. Get rid of him tomorrow."
The lawyer hesitated. "Sir, the child is still Vellmore Family..."
"Just do it."
Down in the basement.
They'd given Gina a shot of adrenaline, so she was barely conscious again.
"The kid's dead." Shane stood by the makeshift bed, his tone flat. "High fever. Couldn't save him."
Gina's eyes flew open and she let out this inhuman shriek"That's impossible! You're lying!"
She tried to sit up: "Shane! That was my baby!"
"Should've thought about that before you stuck needles in him." Shane leaned down and whispered in her ear. "Right?"
Gina suddenly went quiet, her eyes going blank.
Then she exploded into hysterical cursing: "Shane Vellmore! I hope you rot in hell! I curse you to never find Rowena! I curse you to die alone and miserable!"
Shane straightened up and waved at the bodyguard. "Keep going."
As he walked out, he could hear her screaming inside, but he didn't even slow down.
