The difference was that Lyra was lucky—she hadn't been hurt.
More importantly, Lyra didn't like her childhood friend.
"Everyone thinks we'll be a couple, but I'm not interested in him. Romance is too much trouble. I think people should focus on their careers first."
Lyra had none of the airs of a wealthy heiress, dressing however was most comfortable.
When she said this, her whole being seemed to glow.
Aveline smiled with genuine admiration.
After hearing so much about Lyra's private life, and noticing her curiosity about the prosthetic hand, Aveline hesitated then told her the truth.
"My experience is somewhat similar to yours. I'm a designer, and my husband's stalker chopped off my right hand. What I'm wearing now is fake. But later I discovered that my husband was with his stalker. Rather than letting me pursue my dreams whole, he preferred me broken and by his side. So I escaped to chase my dreams with my left hand."
Except for Sebastian's identity and the fact that she'd changed her name, she was quite frank about everything else.
The chemistry between people is magical—she and Lyra just clicked instantly.
Lyra was indignant, cursing the scumbag and admiring Aveline's courage to start over.
"No wonder you don't want to be found." Lyra suddenly thought of something. "So Autumn, are you here to compete in a design competition?"
Aveline nodded, puzzled.
Lyra said excitedly: "That's wonderful! I'll definitely come cheer you on at the venue!"
A week later, Aveline's physical condition had basically stabilized.
The scars were still visible and painful, but at least she looked normal when dressed.
Despite Lyra's repeated attempts to convince her to stay at the Saintclair house, Aveline politely declined.
She completely believed Lyra's sincerity, but such an elite household's expenses weren't something she could afford right now.
Having finally gained a new life, she only wanted to live within her means.
Everything in the future, she wanted to achieve through her own efforts.
In fact, before meeting Sebastian, she'd always been this way.
Before marriage, she'd said she wouldn't give up her career.
She was talented and hardworking, already making a name for herself in the industry.
Sebastian had sounded supportive then, saying he'd back her.
But apparently his support only extended to staying by his side.
Aveline arrived at her mentor Emily's house and quickly threw herself into preparing for the design competition.
Her previously submitted work had successfully gotten her into the preliminaries.
Next was the semi-final in half a month.
All contestants had to bring new designs and present their creative inspiration to the judges.
After that would be the final, where semi-final designs would be made into actual garments and judged by both judges and audience votes to determine the winner.
Aveline had already drafted her semi-final piece back home.
Emily was amazed after seeing it: "I have a feeling that your left-hand designs have more soul—there's a captivating vitality in them."
Aveline smiled. Emily's critiques were usually spot-on.
Indeed, her current designs incorporated her experiences and suffering, her despair and resilience.
Vibrant life force was always fascinating.
During this time, Lyra often kept in touch with Aveline.
Knowing she was busy, Lyra would occasionally bring various delicious French pastries to "visit the set."
The busy and fulfilling half-month flew by, and soon it was the day of the semi-final.
