At a familiar voice, Lucy looked up in surprise. "Huh? Mr. Morgan? What are you doing here?"
Despite appearing clueless and docile when she was with Paisley, Lucy was known for being strict and efficient at work. Her subordinates respected and feared her, addressing her formally as Ms. Green.
Nate swallowed hard. "It's my daughter's birthday today, so I came to see her. And you?"
Lucy glanced at Paisley. "I came to deliver wine to Ms. Sutton."
"Ms. Sutton?" Nate was stunned, momentarily forgetting how to breathe.
Lucy nodded and turned to introduce Paisley properly. "Oh, right! Haven't you always wanted to meet the boss? Let me formally introduce you. This is Ms. Paisley Sutton, the owner of Cloud Crest Winery—my mentor, also your boss."
Shocked, Nate stumbled, knocking into the table. The dishes and bottles rattled against each other.
What the hell was going on? His daughter's kindergarten classmate's mother was his employer. And not just that—he had recently harassed his own boss without realizing it.
To make matters worse, his wife had falsely accused his boss's daughter and even insulted his boss herself! The final blow? He had arrogantly threatened his boss, saying he'd make sure she wouldn't survive in Harrowfell.
Completely unaware of what was happening, Lucy noticed Nate turning increasingly pale. "Mr. Morgan? What's wrong?"
Then she turned back to Paisley and said cheerfully, "Wow, I didn't realize Rena and Mr. Morgan's daughter were classmates! What a small world!"
She suddenly remembered that Nate's contract was about to expire. They hadn't decided whether to renew it yet.
His management skills were fine, but there had been rumors about his questionable personal life. That was why his renewal hadn't been prioritized.
But now that Paisley was here, and their daughters were classmates, maybe this could finally be decided.
"What, what does this mean?" Vivian was finally catching onto the conversation. "Honey, what are you all talking about? Who is your boss?"
Nate was now filled with deep regret. If none of this had happened, his daughter's connection with the boss's daughter would have secured his career. But now… it was too late.
"Boss! Boss! It was all my fault!" He ignored his wife and hurriedly approached Paisley. If there weren't so many people around, he would have bowed.
Vivian's eyes widened in shock, her heart pounding wildly.
"Boss…?" Her gaze flickered with panic. Ms. Sutton was her husband's boss? The owner of Cloud Crest Winery?
"My God!" She clamped a hand over her mouth, suddenly realizing the gravity of her mistake. She had made an irreversible blunder.
Like her husband, she stumbled forward, pressing her palms together in a pleading gesture. "Ms. Sutton, I'm so sorry! I didn't know. I really didn't know! No need to compensate me for the wine—I'll even return the 200 grand!"
With trembling hands, she took out her phone and hastily transferred back the money Paisley had sent her earlier. "I'm truly sorry! Please forgive me!"
Nearby, Isabella was just as dumbfounded. She hadn't expected the situation to take such a dramatic turn.
In her eyes, Nate was already someone unreachable—a high-status figure. But now, she realized that Rena's mother was actually his boss. Which meant that Millie's family's entire privileged lifestyle depended on Paisley.
With all those things she had said earlier, she had completely humiliated herself.
"What's going on?" Lucy noticed the bizarre behavior of Nate and his wife.
"Ms. Green, I—" Nate's face turned ashen, as if he had been constipated for a month. There was no way to explain himself out of this. Likely, he would soon lose his job and be forced out of Harrowfell.
"Ms. Green, please, considering all the years I've spent at Cloud Crest Winery, I may not have achieved much, but I've definitely worked hard. Can you please ask the boss to have some mercy on me?" Nate was almost crying.
"Ms. Sutton, today is all my fault. I'm petty, I'm wrong. My husband is excellent, he works really hard, and he's been away from home for years, staying in Brightmoor, and dedicating himself entirely to his work. Please don't let my mistake affect his career."
Paisley looked deeply at Vivian. She really wanted to ask, "Are you sure he's not away from home doing other things?"
But she wouldn't say that. She had no obligation to get involved in other people's affairs. Her own life had only just started getting back on track, after being in a complete mess before.
At this point, she had no desire to stay any longer. She stood up, holding Serena.
Lucy took Paisley's bag and asked, "What about these two bottles of wine?"
Paisley glanced at the two bottles on the table. "Let's leave them for everyone to drink."
After saying that, she looked at Millie, who had stopped crying, and then turned to Vivian,
"The gift was chosen by Rena for Millie. I hope she likes it. In any case, please don't let this affect the children's friendship. Since everything's settled, I won't keep you any longer."
Only then did Vivian remember the crown she had carelessly thrown on the floor. Her face turned pale as she hurried over to pick it up. She opened the box and saw that the crystal crown now had a crack in it.
"Mom! My crown!" Millie had asked for that crown several times, but her mom hadn't bought it because it was too expensive. Now, seeing the cracked crown in her hands, she felt deep regret.
