Back in the large private room, the atmosphere around the main table was getting lively. Most of the conversation was between Gregory and Christina, with the Jackman family parents chiming in from the side.
But Gregory wasn't really paying attention to anyone else now. His only focus was getting some information about Paisley from the Sullivan family members, which was the real reason he was here today.
So, just as Gregory was about to raise his glass for a toast again, Dominick raised his hand and pressed down on his glass. "I want to ask you about—"
"Gary, aren't you going to raise a glass to Dominick?" Brittany's sharp voice interrupted what Dominick was about to say. Dominick turned to look at her, a hint of displeasure appearing in his eyes.
However, Brittany was lost in her own excitement. She looked at Gary across the table with a haughty expression, determined to force him to bow down to her in front of everyone.
On the side table, Gary was called out by Brittany and felt a surge of anger. But seeing that Dominick was involved, he couldn't show any resistance.
He could only stiffly pick up his glass and, with heavy steps, slowly walked towards the main table. He knew full well that this was Brittany trying to embarrass him. But in the face of absolute power, he had no room to resist.
He awkwardly approached the main table, stood behind Brittany, and slightly bowed as he raised his glass towards Dominick. "Dominick, I offer you this drink."
Dominick furrowed his brows, finding the middle-aged man in front of him vaguely familiar, but he couldn't quite place where he had seen him. "Who is this?" he asked, turning to Brittany.
Brittany met his gaze, her eyes sparkling, her voice soft and sweet. "Gary is the director of my next film. I have to thank you, Dominick. If you hadn't stepped in to help me, I wouldn't have gotten the lead role. You've been so good to me."
Dominick felt there was an underlying meaning in Brittany's words, which made him uncomfortable. But it was indeed his suggestion to Julian to help Brittany get the lead role.
To him, it was just a trivial matter that didn't require thanks from the Sullivan family. On the contrary, he began to feel a bit repulsed by this meeting with the Sullivan family.
He had thought it was just a simple family dinner, but he didn't expect the Sullivan family to invite so many people he didn't care about.
He could see through their intentions, but out of respect for Paisley's side of the family, he was putting up with it.
Dominick picked up his glass and clinked it briefly with Gary's but didn't drink. He set the glass back down on the table.
Brittany misinterpreted this as Dominick trying to intimidate Gary, and her demeanor became even more arrogant. "Gary, I've heard that you've been working hard to kick me out of the cast?"
Hearing this, Gary's back immediately stiffened. He carefully gauged Dominick's reaction, but Dominick remained silent, his face showing little emotion. But it was this silence that made it all the more chilling.
Gary didn't know that Dominick was thinking, 'Is Paisley's sister a bad actress? Otherwise, why would the director want to kick her out of the cast?'
Dominick remained silent, and Gary began to sweat nervously, quickly denying it, "No, no, I'm just still looking for other actors. Once we have the cast set, we can start filming."
Brittany sneered, clearly pleased with herself. "Oh, so after the filming starts, you'll still be the director?" she asked.
This question made Gary break into a cold sweat again, and he started looking away. How did Brittany know he was planning to give up directing the film?
Was she intentionally putting pressure on him by bringing Dominick here to make him abandon his plan?
In reality, Brittany had no idea about Gary's intentions. She was just trying to make a scene in front of the crew members who looked down on her.
However, without realizing it, her question frightened Gary so much that he hurriedly agreed, "Of course, this film is a joint effort with Ms. Vaire, and we're both very invested in it."
When Brittany heard Nion's name, she frowned, looking towards the side table. She recognized the crew members there but didn't see the ever-elusive Nion.
"By the way, where's Nion?" In the past, Brittany had politely addressed Nion with more respect, but now, her arrogance had grown, and she just called the name directly.
The crew members at the side table sneered quietly, but they couldn't do anything except endure it in silence. Even Gary had never referred to Nion by his first name. It had always been "Ms. Vaire" when speaking about him.
Now feeling superior, Brittany didn't seem to care about the director or the writer anymore.
Gary felt a headache coming on. He knew Nion didn't like Brittany, which was why he hadn't told Nion about this dinner gathering. Now, with Brittany asking, he could only answer, "I came in a rush and forgot to inform Ms. Vaire."
Brittany snorted, clearly displeased. "Gary, this is your mistake. Today is my treat for the crew, and how can we forget Nion? You need to call her and have her come over so we can chat about the script."
Gary didn't want to agree, but looking at Dominick's increasingly furrowed brows, he reluctantly replied, "Alright, I'll try to contact her."
"Good," Brittany nodded. "Make sure she comes."
Brittany was determined to meet and defeat Nion today. She wanted to use this opportunity to make Nion regret her previous dismissal of her.
"Dad, I need to use the bathroom. Can you come with me?" Grayson tugged on Dominick's hand, wanting to leave. There were too many strangers here.
He could go to the bathroom by himself, after all, he was old enough. Grayson wanted his father to accompany him, taking the opportunity to ask when they could leave. He didn't like the people here.
Hearing Grayson's voice, Brittany quickly tried to ingratiate herself. "Sonny, how about I take you instead?"
"No," Grayson replied with a stern face, rejecting her outright.
Brittany's expression froze. She had intended to show Dominick how much she liked children and present herself as a perfect wife and mother. But Dominick's son embarrassed her.
Dominick stood up. "Sonny is a boy. It's inconvenient for you to take him." With that, he accompanied Grayson to the restroom.
Brittany returned to her seat, her face sour. Grayson was so unlikable. Once she had Dominick's child, she would make sure to get rid of him.
With Dominick gone, the atmosphere in the private room lightened considerably.
Keith respectfully raised his glass to Gregory. "We apologize for any offense earlier. Please don't hold it against us."
Marianne chimed in, "Yes, nothing is more important than the children's happiness! Rest assured, once Paisley marries Baron, she'll enjoy a good life. We'll treat her well."
But this wasn't what Brittany wanted. She wanted Paisley to fall into ruin, not be well-treated by the Jackman family.
"Mrs. Jackman, no one knows my sister better than we do. You shouldn't treat her too well, or she'll make mistakes," said Brittany with a cunning smile.
