Gregory raised his hand to strike Paisley but stopped short when two bodyguards blocked his way. Although he didn't lash out physically, his rage didn't subside. He glared at Paisley, as if he wanted to tear her apart.
"Paisley! You despicable brat! Do you just want to ruin our entire family?" Christina shouted in hatred. Not only had Paisley destroyed their chance at a marital alliance with the Jackman family, but she had also humiliated them in front of everyone.
Most importantly, she had ruined all their careful plans to impress Dominick. What would Dominick think when he returned to see this mess? Would it tarnish Brittany's image in his eyes?
As these thoughts consumed her, Christina's hatred for Paisley grew. "Why did you come back? Why didn't you just die out there?"
The same words again. In the past, hearing this would have torn Paisley apart. But now, she was utterly indifferent.
"Die? If anyone should die, it's you people! Paisley will live long just to spite you all!" Lucy interjected, speaking on Paisley's behalf with cutting words.
"You miserable old hag! You ignore your own daughter and cherish that adopted bitch like she's a treasure. You're pathetic! You love picking up what others throw away. You're trash! The worst trash! You and your little bitch of a daughter deserve to die together!"
Lucy continued her verbal onslaught, sparing no one. Both Christina and Brittany were left speechless, their faces turning ashen with rage.
"Y-You—" Christina stammered, trembling as she pointed at Paisley, her face pale as if she might faint.
"What? Old hag! Is your mother dead?" Lucy shot back mercilessly, completely unbothered. After all, Paisley had told her to let loose, and she would handle the aftermath. Paisley nodded approvingly. Lucy's ability to unleash verbal chaos was as strong as Emery's.
Clutching her chest, Christina's breathing grew uneven, her eyes and mouth wide in shock.
"You ungrateful child!" Gregory shouted again, his voice shaking with fury. "Get out! From now on, you are no longer my daughter!"
Paisley smirked, "You've said that before, years ago. I guess old age has caught up to you. You can't even remember your own words."
"Get out! Get out now!" Gregory roared, his face flushed with rage, veins bulging on his neck.
Paisley's expression remained cold. If the Sullivan family wanted to disgust her, she'd return the favor tenfold. Now that her goal had been achieved, she had no intention of lingering.
"Ms. Vaire?" Just as she turned to leave, a familiar voice called out. On the other side, Gary had been racking his brain about how to get Nion to show up, but he never expected her to appear right before him.
Paisley froze, startled, and glanced in the direction of the voice. Amidst the chaos, she saw Gary, who looked equally surprised. "Gary? What are you doing here?"
Gary, still shaken from the earlier confrontation, took a moment to find his voice. When he did, he pointed at Brittany.
"She made us come." His voice trembled slightly. He had seen a lot in his life, but this situation had genuinely rattled him. What shocked him the most was discovering Paisley's connection to the Sullivan family.
From the fragments of conversation earlier, he'd pieced everything together. No wonder Nion had always been so resistant to Brittany. Now it all made sense.
Moreover, he was appalled at how vile the Sullivan family was. He had inwardly criticized them before for trying to pair their daughter with someone as revolting as Baron. Little did he know their daughter was Nion.
Now, seeing how Paisley had outmaneuvered the Sullivan family, he felt relieved. Had she not been prepared, the outcome could have been catastrophic.
On the other side, Gary's exchange with Paisley struck Brittany like a thunderclap, leaving her momentarily stunned.
"Gary, what did you just call Paisley?" Brittany stammered, panic creeping into her voice.
"Ms. Vaire." Gary walked over to Paisley's side. "She's Nion, the screenwriter. What? Brittany, you didn't know?"
As Gary stood beside Paisley, the rest of the production crew, who had harbored grievances against Brittany, silently aligned themselves with Paisley.
They didn't have much power, but they could at least make their stance known.
Brittany's face turned pale, then livid. Seeing the entire crew rally around Paisley, her breathing grew rapid with anger. "That's impossible! Paisley is an uneducated fool! She didn't even go to school! How could she possibly be Nion?"
Brittany refused to believe it. How could she? She had always looked down on Paisley, viewing her as an illiterate stray who had spent years wandering before being dragged back to the Sullivan family by the police.
It was this perception that had allowed her to drive a wedge between Paisley and their parents. After all, who wouldn't prefer a cultured, obedient, and thoughtful daughter?
"That's right! I know exactly what Paisley is like!" Christina chimed in, unwilling to accept the truth. "There's no way she's better than Brittany!"
"Whether you believe it or not, it's the truth," Gary said, his tone resolute. "Paisley is Nion, and we have a contract to prove it."
Seeing the Sullivan family's shocked expressions, Gary couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction.
"You—" Gregory looked at Paisley hesitantly, his once furious eyes now filled with confusion.
He'd heard the name Nion mentioned countless times by Brittany. According to her, Nion was an extraordinary, top-tier screenwriter whose works were always blockbusters. Every actor in her productions became an overnight sensation.
This was why Brittany had gone to such lengths, leveraging Dominick's connections to secure the lead role in Nion's latest project. Could it be that this extraordinary screenwriter was Paisley?
Brittany noticed the shift in Gregory's demeanor and seethed with frustration, her gaze toward Paisley turning darker and more venomous.
"So what if you're Nion? You can't stop me from taking this role! Do you have the guts to go up against capital? If you don't want things to end horribly for you, beg me! Maybe I'll let you stay in this industry!"
Her words served as a stark reminder to everyone present—she was Dominick's chosen woman, someone with immense power behind her.
Gary tensed, casting a worried glance at Paisley. He knew Paisley had been trying to uncover the identity of Brittany's backer, and today might finally provide the answer. But with the way things had escalated, he feared Dominick might retaliate against Paisley.
"Huh? What's going on here?" Just then, a child's confused voice broke the tension. Grayson entered the room, looking disgruntled. He'd had a stomachache earlier and suspected it might have been caused by the food.
Fortunately, Dominick had assured him they could leave after speaking with his so-called grandparents.
Grayson wrinkled his nose in disdain as he walked in but suddenly caught sight of Paisley out of the corner of his eye. His face lit up, and he turned excitedly. Sure enough, it was her.
"Mom!" he shouted, running toward Paisley and throwing himself into her arms. "Mom, I finally found you!"
"Dad!" Grayson turned back to Dominick, who had just entered. "It's Mom! She's here!"
"Paisley." Dominick stood stunned, staring at the woman in front of him. After a brief moment of shock, he quickly stepped forward and, ignoring Paisley's resistance, forcefully pulled her into his arms. "I missed you so much. Where did you go?"
