Christina was scared by Gregory's expression. She had never seen him like this before. So cold, so terrifying.
His gaze was like looking at an enemy with a blood feud. There was no trace of any affection between husband and wife left in his eyes. This version of Gregory was even more terrifying than when he had thrown Brittany out last time.
"I—" Christina carefully stepped inside. "What's going on?" No matter what had happened, she had to appease Gregory.
Today's situation with Brittany had gotten too out of hand. She had tried every way she could, but nothing could calm the anger of the Levine family. They were determined to hold Brittany accountable. Right now, Brittany was still at the police station.
They said Daisy had a ruptured eardrum, but Christina didn't believe it. It was just a slap. There was no way it could be that serious. But now that things had gotten this bad, Christina had no other choice. Only Gregory could step in to resolve the situation.
"What's going on?" Gregory glared at Christina with a look that could kill. "I should be asking you! What did you and Brittany do out there? Dominick sent people over to take back everything he'd given us!"
"What?" Christina was utterly shocked. No wonder all the antique paintings on display were gone. Suddenly realizing something, she rushed to check the jewelry she'd hidden away. Sure enough, everything was gone.
"My jewelry!" Christina was on the verge of collapse.
Lately, she'd been relying on her private stash of money and selling off some of her jewelry to support Brittany. Supporting Brittany hadn't required much, so she'd left the more expensive jewelry Dominick had given her untouched for the time being.
She had been planning to sell those jewels if Gregory ever refused to let Brittany back into the family. The money could buy Brittany a big house. But before she could even put that plan into action, this disaster had struck.
She knew that just having Gregory apologize wouldn't be enough to calm down the Levines. A gift was definitely required. She'd already resigned herself to part with one of the jewels Dominick had given her to make amends with Daisy. But now, they were all gone.
"Why did you return my jewelry?" Christina's turn to lose her temper, she screamed at Gregory hysterically. Without the jewelry, how could she save Brittany?
Gregory lost it completely when Christina yelled at him. In a fit of rage, he kicked her hard in the shoulder.
Christina cried out in pain, falling backward and hitting the back of her head on the floor. The pain was excruciating, leaving her grimacing and unable to sit up for a long time. She could only lie there, groaning.
"You think I wanted to return them? It's because of your stupidity! Why on earth did you mess with Paisley again? Why?" Gregory was seething. The Sullivan family's only chance for a comeback was through Paisley.
Christina not only failed to help mend things with her but managed to cause trouble and make everything worse.
"I already kicked Brittany out of the family. I turned a blind eye to you supporting her all this time, but now she's using our family name to assault someone from the Levine family! She even ruptured the girl's eardrum! Don't tell me you didn't know about this!"
"I-I knew." Christina was well aware of the situation and had come back to Gregory for this very reason. Forgetting her pain, she scrambled to sit up, crawled to Gregory's feet, and clung to his leg, crying and begging.
"Honey, please save Brittany! She's locked up and can't get out. The Levine family must've faked the medical report. How could just one slap from a girl like her rupture someone's eardrum? It's impossible! They're lying! You're the only one who can help now!"
Gregory laughed angrily, "Me? What do you want me to do?"
"Of course, help us talk to the Levine family! You and Mr. Levine are business partners. You've always had a good relationship. Just ask him for a favor! We can pay them more compensation if needed. Honey, Brittany is counting on you!"
Christina's face was soaked with tears, looking utterly pitiful. But Gregory's expression only grew colder. "Money? What money? We barely have enough left to pay our penalties and suppliers!"
"If we don't have money, then let's go to the Levine family together and beg Mr. Levine, okay? You two have been partners for so many years. Your relationship—"
"Shut up!" Gregory had enough of Christina's naive assumptions. It was her attitude that made Brittany to be just as entitled.
"Before you came back, Mr. Levine already called me. From now on, the Levine family will no longer work with the Sullivan family. Thanks to our 'wonderful' adopted daughter Brittany, we've lost our last big partner!"
"No, that's impossible! How could this happen? It was just a childish fight."
Gregory laughed bitterly, "A ruptured eardrum is a 'childish fight' to you? Should I rupture yours and see how it feels?"
Christina slumped to the floor, her eyes lifeless.
Seeing her like that only infuriated Gregory further. He kicked her aside. "The Vanderbilt family's antiques and jewels were our last hope, and now those are gone too—thanks to you messing with Paisley! Let's just wait for the Sullivan family to go bankrupt!"
Brittany had ended up in the police station because of Paisley, they lost the jewels because of Paisley, and now Gregory was hitting her—also because of Paisley.
At this moment, Christina's hatred for Paisley reached its peak. She suddenly stood up, ignoring the pain in her head, and with bloodshot eyes, glared at Gregory.
"Paisley! Paisley! Everything that's happened to the Sullivan family is her fault! If it weren't for her cold-heartedness, Brittany wouldn't still be stuck in the police station! And you want me to apologize to her? I should've killed her back then! I shouldn't have let her live in this world!"
Christina screamed hysterically, throwing anything she could grab. Her crazed behavior shocked Gregory. By the time he came to his senses, the room was in complete chaos.
"Crazy woman!" Gregory slapped her hard across the face. "Have you calmed down yet? Let me tell you something, Christina. I'm done watching you act out. As for Brittany, she assaulted someone—she deserves her punishment!"
"No, honey, we can't just leave her like this. We're her parents!" Christina clung to Gregory again.
"Parents? She's just an adopted daughter! Remember, Christina, our only biological daughter is Paisley. Take a couple of days to cool off, and then we'll go apologize to Paisley."
Christina stared at Gregory's cold, unyielding face. While she felt deeply bitter, her heart hardened as she grabbed Gregory's leg. "Honey, I have to tell you the truth now. Brittany isn't our adopted daughter. She's—"
Gregory's phone rang, interrupting her. The caller ID showed an unknown number. He didn't want to hear Christina talk about Brittany anymore, so he directly answered the phone.
"Hello, is this Gregory?" A polite yet slightly condescending male voice came from the other end.
