That same day, the police station received a reconciliation letter from the Levine family, agreeing to mediation and no longer pursuing Brittany's responsibility.
When Christina and Gregory arrived at the police station, Brittany was pitifully sitting on a bench. She was still wearing the same clothes as before, dirty and wrinkled, clinging to her body.
"Brittany, my darling!" Seeing her precious daughter in such a miserable state, Christina rushed over and hugged her tightly. Instantly, an unpleasant odor filled Christina's nose.
It was because Brittany had refused to use the bathroom at the station and ended up wetting herself. She had never been so humiliated in her life.
"Mom, why did it take you so long to come? Do you know how I spent this whole night?" Seeing Christina, Brittany cried as she complained, "Why did you wait all night to rescue me!"
Christina felt as though her heart was bleeding. She hugged Brittany tightly, not even caring about the smell. "I'm sorry, it's my fault. Don't worry, Brittany, you will never have to face this kind of humiliation again. Everyone who has wronged you will be punished a thousand times over!"
Christina said this with gritted teeth, and images of the Levine family, along with Paisley's face, flashed through her mind.
Brittany didn't want to hear any of Christina's nonsense. Annoyed, she pushed Christina away. "I want to leave right now. I want to change clothes and take a shower!"
Christina nodded repeatedly, pulling Brittany up. "Okay, we're going home right now."
"Home?" Brittany frowned, perhaps because she had spent the whole day at the station. Her mood wasn't great, and she wasn't happy looking at Christina. "I don't want to go back to that crappy house. Take me to a hotel!"
Just the thought of returning to that musty old house made Brittany feel wronged.
"No, no, we're going back to the villa." Christina coaxed her gently.
"Back to the villa? Did Dad say I could come back?" Brittany's heart lifted. She thought that Gregory had finally forgiven her and was willing to accept her again.
At that moment, Gregory, who had finished the procedures, walked over with a beaming smile. "Brittany, my good daughter!" He had intended to hug Brittany, but as soon as he got close, he smelled the awful odor on her and immediately stepped back.
His admiration for the Beaumont family and the Godard family helped him resist the urge to cover his nose and curse. He still maintained a stiff smile on his face.
Brittany certainly noticed Gregory's changing expressions. She knew her current appearance was absolutely terrible. She could even see the people at the police station walking around her, avoiding her.
The unprecedented feeling of humiliation made her eyes well up. In the past, if this kind of social death had happened, Gregory would have turned and walked away. But now, he wouldn't, and he couldn't.
Seeing Brittany cry, he hurried to comfort her, "Don't cry, my daughter. I'll take you home now."
Brittany stopped crying and looked at Gregory in surprise. "Dad, you really want me to come home?"
"Of course, the reason I kicked you out before was because I was impulsive. I've been regretting it these past few days. To be honest, all of this is Paisley's fault. If it weren't for her, I wouldn't have made the impulsive mistake of kicking you out."
Gregory couldn't find any other excuse, so he just blamed everything on Paisley.
Brittany's face darkened at the mention of Paisley. She wouldn't forget that one of the main reasons she ended up in the police station was because of Paisley.
It was Paisley who had refused to help her, coldly watching her suffer while the Levine family mother and daughter took advantage of her.
Seeing people looking at them, Christina reminded, "Alright, let's go home first."
It wasn't until Brittany was leaving the police station with Christina and Gregory that she saw a man waiting for her outside. The man wasn't very tall, but his imposing demeanor made him look far from ordinary.
Worried that he might smell the stench on her, Brittany instinctively took a step back. But even then, the sharp-nosed Dylan smelled something and couldn't help but frown. "This must be Brittany, right?"
Christina really didn't want to bring Brittany to see Byron in such a state, so she said to Dylan, "I'll take Brittany home to change clothes and freshen up, then we'll take her to see Byron."
Dylan looked at Brittany who was a mess and nodded. Anyway, he had found the person in the picture.
"I'll see you later. Get some rest, Brittany," Dylan respectfully nodded and left.
Brittany looked at the unfamiliar man in confusion. Once he got into his car and left, she turned to Christina and asked, "Mom, who was that man?"
"We'll talk about it at home." The entrance to the police station wasn't the right place for this conversation, so Christina and Gregory took Brittany back to the Sullivan family's villa.
As soon as Brittany stepped into the villa, she noticed that it looked completely different. The antique paintings and calligraphy that were once displayed were gone. The place was messy as if it had been ransacked. She looked around but couldn't find the housekeeper.
"Mom, where's the housekeeper?" she asked, wanting them to prepare her bath.
Gregory looked slightly awkward. "I dismissed them."
However, his discomfort didn't last long—he knew it wouldn't be long before he could live a life of luxury again.
"Brittany, take a bath and change your clothes. Once you're ready, we have something to tell you," Christina urged, while she herself went to handle another matter.
She walked to her room and made a phone call. By the time the call ended, Brittany had finished her bath and come downstairs.
"What? Mom, are you saying that I'm the sole bloodline of the Godard family?" Brittany was in disbelief, thinking she must have misheard. She kept grabbing Christina, asking for confirmation.
"Yes!" Gregory hoped to rebuild their bond. "Your mother and I have already met with the patriarch of the Beaumont family. This matter is practically set in stone. As long as you and your biological father complete the DNA test, you'll officially be recognized as part of the family."
Brittany listened to Gregory's explanation, her eyes sparkling with excitement as she turned to Christina.
Christina nodded firmly. "Not only are you the sole heir of the Godard family, but you're also a distinguished member of the Beaumont family."
"Really? Is that true?" Brittany's eyes lit up with joy as she imagined a future where Dominick revolved around her and Paisley knelt at her feet.
Meanwhile, in the hospital room, Paisley sneezed and casually rubbed her nose. "Ah-choo!"
"Paisy, are you catching a cold?" Maria asked.
"I'm fine, just a ticklish nose." Lately, her nose had been itching a lot.
Maria put down the items in her hands and said, "I noticed the house next door was dark when I got back earlier. It seems Max has left Harrowfell. I wonder if he'll come back."
Paisley didn't pay it much attention. She picked up her bag, ready to leave. "Maria, I'm heading to the film set. I'll be back tonight."
"Alright," Maria replied, though she felt a vague sense of unease watching Paisley leave.
