Leo drove straight into the shopping center's underground parking lot. Soon after, the people tailing them arrived as well.
They watched as Max, Leo, and Paisley got out of the car and walked into the mall together.
Not wanting to miss anything suspicious, the lookouts quickly disguised themselves and followed. But to their surprise, the three of them really seemed to be shopping.
Max and Leo had stayed silent the whole way, but when they followed Paisley into a luxury boutique and even paid for a handbag she picked, they finally couldn't hold back.
"Ms. Sutton, don't forget why we're here," Max murmured, suppressing his confusion and urgency as he leaned closer to Paisley.
Walking ahead, Paisley looked every bit like a spoiled rich girl.
She casually pointed at the most prominently displayed handbag in the store. "That one. Let me see it."
The sales associate, noticing how well-dressed the three of them were, quickly retrieved the bag and handed it to Paisley with a respectful smile. "This is our brand's latest seasonal release. It's a global limited edition, and we only have two in stock."
Paisley held the bag and examined herself in the mirror.
She thought, 'Hmm. Not my style. But Emery would love it.'
She tossed the bag back to the sales associate. "Wrap it up."
The associate took the bag with a polite smile and asked, "Are you a member of our store, miss?"
Paisley shook her head. "No."
The associate's enthusiasm dimmed instantly. Her tone lost its earlier warmth. "Oh, this bag is only available to members. If you're not a member, you'll need to make an additional purchase."
Paisley didn't care. "Then add something to it."
The associate's eyes lit up and immediately brought out some overpriced, nearly unsellable items. "How about pairing it with these? Do any of these look good to you?"
Without even glancing at the items, Paisley turned to Max and said casually, "Pay for it."
Max frowned—not because of the money, but because he didn't understand what Paisley was doing.
He thought, 'Weren't we supposed to be looking for medicine? My adoptive father is still waiting back at the old mansion.'
Paisley subtly scanned the area while maintaining her relaxed smile. She arched an eyebrow at Max. "Still not paying?"
Leo frowned deeply, wanting to say something, but Max stopped him.
"Alright," Max said, looking at Paisley, and then ordered Leo, "Pay."
Leo's face was serious; he didn't understand what Paisley was doing.
'Is it possible that both Max and I are wrong about her?' he wondered.
'This woman is nothing but a gold-digging opportunist. Is she using the chance to treat Mr. Godard to blackmail Max into buying things for her? But that doesn't make sense. She has Cloud Crest Winery's vast assets behind her. She doesn't need this money, right?'
Leo's mind was filled with a thousand questions, yet he could only obediently follow the sales assistant to make the payment.
As the bag and other items were being packed, Paisley had already walked out of the store without looking back and headed toward another luxury shop across the street.
Just like that, Max and Leo followed Paisley all the way to the third store, with both big men almost unable to hold the shopping bags in their hands anymore.
"Max, this isn't going to work," Leo muttered under his breath, lowering his head, speaking softly beside Max.
Max knew full well that if they continued letting Paisley shop like this, it would just be a waste of time. Though he didn't understand what Paisley was up to, he felt the need to warn her, maybe even to give her a serious word of caution.
Just as Max stepped forward to speak, Paisley suddenly lowered her head and looked at her phone.
Max was about to speak when he saw Paisley smile.
She put her phone away and pointed to a luxury shop not far ahead. "Let's go there."
With that, she quickly walked toward the shop.
Max furrowed his brow and quickly followed. His patience had run out. If Paisley didn't get serious about finding the medicine soon, he would just take the prescription and leave by himself.
As soon as Paisley reached the store entrance, the store manager came over with a big smile. "Ms. Sutton, you're here!"
"Yeah." Paisley nodded. "Where's the bag I wanted? Bring it to me."
The manager chuckled, "Ms. Sutton, you're so well-informed. This bag just arrived, and you're here right on time. I'll bring it right over."
"Paisley." Max stepped in, his voice cold and sharp, even changing from "Ms. Sutton" to "Paisley."
He was genuinely angry now.
"Calm down," Paisley said softly, her expression unchanged, but her eyes never left the manager who was walking toward her, and the bag he was holding.
Paisley took the bag, weighed it in her hand, and then handed it back to the manager, "Yeah, wrap it up."
After receiving the bag wrapped up, Paisley turned around, looking a bit tired as she said to Max, "I'm tired. No more shopping. Let's go back."
"Go back?" Max's brows furrowed deeply.
"Yes." Paisley raised the bag in her hand. "I wanted it, and it's here. I'm not interested in anything else."
Max paused for a moment, but when he met Paisley's clear, smiling eyes, he understood. "Alright, let's go back."
As he turned, Max's face had already softened, and a gentle expression returned.
"This—" Leo wanted to say something, but after receiving a warning glance from Max, he obediently shut his mouth and followed behind them toward the parking lot.
It wasn't until the three of them drove back to the old mansion that the lookouts finally got out of their cars.
The men exchanged looks, all of them feeling incredulous.
They had thought the trip to the mall was just a scheme by Max to mislead them, a plan to shake them off. But to their surprise, he really was just accompanying his girlfriend to buy luxury goods.
Edmond was beyond pleased when he received the photos of Max shopping with his girlfriend.
"Looks like my dear brother really is done for. Max no longer even pretends," Edmond sneered, "I thought that kid was so cunning, but he actually gave me such a great gift."
Once Tyson's death was confirmed, he would publicly release these photos.
Edmond thought, 'Let's see who in the Godard family would still follow Max then. By that time, the first person to kill Max would probably be Ocean, who was loyal to Tyson. Max, oh Max, you're digging your own grave.'
With that thought, Edmond couldn't stay still for another minute. "Go, have those two doctors prepare. No need to wait until tomorrow, let's go see my dear big brother now."
