Max watched Paisley's back as she walked out of the room, his gaze shifting.
He could feel that Paisley cared a lot about Tyson.
It wasn't the usual concern a doctor might have for a patient, but a deeper, more personal emotion.
Max thought, 'But why? This is the first time she's met Tyson, wasn't it?'
He was sure that before this, Paisley and Tyson had never met.
Max looked at Tyson who was lying on the bed. Tyson was raising an eyebrow slightly.
Max thought, 'Maybe I'm overthinking it. A doctor as virtuous as Paisley should naturally care so much about a patient. Moreover, Tyson's condition is critical, so it's normal for her to show more concern.'
The medicine was finally ready. Ocean hurriedly took the bowl of medicine, ready to feed Tyson, but Paisley took the bowl from his hands.
"I'll feed him," Paisley said.
Ocean didn't think much of it and happily agreed, "Yeah, it's better if you feed him, Ms. Sutton. I'm too clumsy to do it properly."
At this moment, when Ocean looked at Paisley, the negative emotions he had before were completely gone. All he felt now was gratitude, even admiration.
Leo watched the change in Ocean's attitude toward Paisley and couldn't help but laugh.
But he understood. Aside from Max, Ocean was the person who cared most about Tyson in the world.
Now that Paisley had not only saved Tyson from the brink of death but also personally handled everything, Ocean was moved.
With Max's help, Paisley helped lift Tyson's upper body. Then, she carefully spooned the black medicinal liquid from the bowl into Tyson's mouth.
Because the medicine was so bitter and unpleasant, Tyson, still unconscious, had a reaction and rejected it. After one spoonful, the medicine dripped from the corner of his mouth and onto Paisley's clothes.
Max saw this and quickly said, "Let me do it."
"It's fine." Paisley didn't care about the medicine staining her clothes. She continued to feed Tyson.
This time, before the medicine went in, she spoke softly, "This is medicine; you'll get better if you drink it, so be good."
Her tone was like she was coaxing a child. In the room, all three men were stunned. They thought, 'Is Ms. Sutton treating Tyson like he were her own kid?'
Just when they thought they couldn't get the medicine into Tyson, he suddenly swallowed it, as if he had heard some sort of call in his unconscious state.
When Ocean saw this, his eyes welled up with tears. "He drank it. He actually drank it."
Leo looked shocked, unable to believe that Paisley's childlike way of speaking had actually worked.
Only Max, who was watching closely, stared deeply at the scene. That strange feeling from before rose up in her heart again.
In that moment, Max was sure that Paisley's attitude toward Tyson wasn't like the usual relationship between doctor and patient.
Before Max could question further, Tyson's cough interrupted him.
"Has Sir woken up?" Ocean asked as he stepped closer, staring at Tyson. When he saw Tyson's eyes slightly opening, tears filled his eyes again. "He's awake. He's really awake."
"Don't make so much noise," Paisley reminded Ocean.
At that moment, Tyson was still in a semi-conscious state, on the edge of waking. His awareness was slowly returning, but his body was still unresponsive.
Ocean immediately stopped, not daring to express any further dissatisfaction with Paisley.
Right now, Paisley was like a savior to him—his benefactor.
Paisley continued feeding Tyson the medicine, spoonful by spoonful, until the bowl was empty. Only then, with Max's help, did she lay Tyson back down.
Max noticed Tyson's eyes were still half-open, and aside from that, there was nothing else. He couldn't help but ask, "Why is this happening? When will my adoptive father wake up?"
After checking, Paisley answered, "He just took the medicine. It won't be quick. We'll have to wait a little longer."
"Ms. Sutton, does this mean that once my brother wakes up, everything will be fine?" Ocean asked.
"His life is temporarily saved, but whether he'll be okay depends on when he wakes up and in what condition," Paisley said, gazing deeply at Tyson. "I hope he wakes up soon."
There were still very important things she needed to confirm.
Max noticed the fatigue in Paisley's eyes. "You must be tired. Get some rest. We'll stay here with our adoptive father."
It was only then that Ocean realized. "Right, you've been busy all this time and haven't eaten. I'll arrange for dinner right away."
At the thought of dinner, Paisley realized she was hungry. Now that she thought about it, she hadn't eaten all day. "Alright."
Tyson's wakefulness was uncertain, and even when he did wake, she didn't know what condition he would be in. This wasn't over yet. She still needed her strength to keep going.
Ocean and Leo went off to prepare dinner, leaving the room with just Paisley and Max. For a while, neither of them spoke.
Because she was too tired, Paisley leaned back on the couch and quickly fell asleep.
Seeing this, Max grabbed a blanket and gently covered her with it. As he lifted his hand, his fingers accidentally brushed Paisley's lips.
The soft, warm feeling was like an electric current running through his fingertips straight to his heart. It made him recall the hug they had shared when Paisley first arrived, at the front gate of the house.
Back at that time, her lips had brushed against his ear. It had been just as soft and gentle.
When Leo and Ocean came in, they saw Max standing by the couch, deeply staring at Paisley, who was sleeping soundly.
"Max—" Leo was about to call out to Max, but Ocean quickly covered his mouth and pulled him out of the room.
Once they had reached the second floor, Ocean let go.
Leo, panting, complained, "Uncle, what was that about?"
Ocean shot Leo a look. "You clueless idiot. Can't you see what's going on in there?"
"What's going on? It's just Ms. Sutton sleeping, and Max is covering her with a blanket. What's the big deal?" Leo didn't understand, not at all.
Ocean rolled his eyes. "No wonder you can't get a girlfriend. You'll be single forever."
Leo, pouting, protested, "Huh? What does that even mean?"
