When he saw the words "Tyson Godard" on the caller ID, Edmond frowned. He couldn't believe that Tyson would call him at this moment.
At first, he thought it was just Max trying to delay things, but Max was right here, and no one was holding a phone.
Even so, Edmond still wouldn't believe it.
"Max, what are you playing at?" Edmond sneered, "Still so young, and you're playing these childish tricks."
Max furrowed his brows slightly, his eyes showing shock. He even instinctively looked up towards the upper floor. 'Could it be that Father has woken up?' he thought.
"Alright, let's see what kind of game this call is playing," Edmond said, then answered the phone in front of everyone and put it on speaker.
"Edmond, is that you downstairs? What's all this noise?" Tyson's voice slowly came through the phone.
Though his voice sounded weak, there was no denying that it was indeed Tyson's voice.
Edmond froze, unbelieving, and snatched the phone from the assistant. "Is that you, Tyson?"
"What? Now you're throwing a tantrum and don't even recognize me as your brother?" Tyson's voice sounded again, and just from his tone, the pressure of an authoritative figure could be felt.
Edmond's head buzzed, his lips trembling. "You-you're still alive?"
"So, you really want me dead that much?" Tyson asked.
The question froze Edmond in place.
"N-no way! This must be fake." Edmond looked at Max. "What kind of trick are you pulling? AI or a voice changer?"
With how advanced technology was now, it wasn't a secret that voices could be altered. In fact, some people used this method to scam others. In any case, Edmond wasn't going to believe it until he saw Tyson with his own eyes.
Tyson's voice came through the phone again. "Max, tell Edmond to come upstairs."
As soon as Tyson finished speaking, one of the guards stationed upstairs came rushing down.
When he saw Max, his face lit up with excitement. "Boss, Mr. Godard asks everyone to go upstairs."
If a phone call could be faked, then with Max's trusted people coming down to deliver the message, it was definitely real.
"Sir's awake!" Ocean, who was closest to the stairs, dashed upstairs first.
Max followed closely behind, pushing open the door, and immediately saw Tyson leaning against the headboard, his eyes clearly open.
"Dad..." he called softly, unsure for a moment if he was dreaming.
Just not long ago, Tyson had been on the verge of death. But now, he had opened his eyes.
Tyson looked at Max and nodded, acknowledging everything Max had done. "I'm awake."
Ocean leaped to Tyson's side, crying like a child.
Tyson weakly scolded him, "You... At your age, still can't keep calm."
Ocean wiped his tears, not caring what Tyson said. As long as Tyson was alive, that was enough for him.
Edmond led the group up to the third floor. When they were on the first floor, the smell of food had masked the scent, but as soon as they reached the third floor, the smell of medicine hit him.
His eyes narrowed. "What's going on? Why does it smell like medicine?"
The assistant beside him was also confused. According to the reports, after two failed attempts, Max and his team had given up.
And their people had been watching them closely, so there was no way Max could have gotten his hands on any medicine.
"Mr. Godard, please calm down." The assistant hurried to reassure him. "Even if they got their hands on medicine, it might not save Tyson's life. He could just be hanging on by a thread."
Edmond thought for a moment and realized it wasn't impossible. Max's people had no doctors with them and had no idea what poison Tyson had taken or how to cure it.
Even if they used phone or video calls for remote treatment, it would only be a drop in the bucket. It wouldn't help in an urgent situation.
Edmond was convinced by the assistant's reasoning and called the two doctors he brought over. "You two, come with me."
As they reached the door, they were stopped by several guards standing outside.
Edmond's gaze turned cold. He shouted through the door, "Move aside! I brought doctors to treat my big brother!"
He wanted to see if, now that he had brought doctors, Max would dare not let him in.
To his surprise, the next second, Max himself came out and welcomed them in. "Edmond, please come in."
This left Edmond feeling a little unsure, but he still led the doctors into the room.
As soon as he entered, he was choked by the strong smell of medicine.
"Ugh, what is that smell? It's so harsh!" Edmond pinched his nose. The scent of the medicine was really unpleasant.
However, one of the doctors following behind him seemed to light up. "This... this medicine..."
Edmond thought the smell of the medicine was suspicious, so he pinched his nose and asked the doctor proudly, "Is there something wrong with this medicine?"
One of the doctors shook his head. "Sorry, I'm not sure. But I've never smelled anything this strong before."
His hospital had a traditional medicine department, so he had certainly smelled medicinal herbs before. He was a doctor, so he wasn't familiar with it.
The doctor's answer only made Edmond feel even more uneasy.
But just then, the traditional medicine doctor who was with them started exclaiming, "This medicine is incredible. It's a miracle cure!"
