Edmond knew he wasn't going to get what he wanted today, no matter what. He was unwilling to accept it. He couldn't accept losing just like that. But at the same time, his unwillingness turned into fear.
The situation had flipped so dramatically, and Tyson wasn't even dead. That meant, if anyone was going to die, it would be Edmond.
"Tyson." Edmond's face changed quickly. He stepped forward a few paces, trying to get closer to Tyson, but was stopped by the big guy and his crew, who kept him a meter away.
Edmond, feeling helpless, could only cry out to Tyson, "Tyson, everything I've done is because I'm worried about you. You have to believe me! We're brothers, real brothers, with blood ties."
Tyson didn't say anything. He just looked at his second brother with a deep, meaningful gaze.
Edmond, feeling uneasy under the gaze, couldn't help but let tears fall. "Tyson, after I found out you were poisoned, I rushed here with a doctor. I just wanted to save you. Otherwise, I wouldn't have brought a doctor.
"But then Max kept blocking me, and I felt something was off, so I had someone follow him. I found out that while you were in critical condition, he was out shopping with his girlfriend. That's when I-I thought Max had improper intentions; after all, you two aren't blood-related."
Tyson listened to Edmond and coldly sneered inwardly when he saw Edmond still trying to shift blame onto Max.
Max, who was being blamed, just stood there unfazed. If he weren't involved, he might even think Edmond's explanation made sense. Regardless of Edmond's true intentions, he had indeed brought a doctor. From the moment he entered, Edmond had never said anything about wanting Tyson to die.
In fact, every action Edmond took seemed to be in defense of Tyson.
Max's hanging out with Paisley while Tyson was critically ill paled in comparison.
Besides, there was no evidence linking Edmond to the people who blocked Max from finding a doctor, or to those who stopped Tyson from going to the hospital.
Even if they found those people, Edmond could probably find a way to distance himself from it.
As for who poisoned Tyson and how it was done, that was something no one could verify at this point.
Just then, Tyson's phone rang, and Ocean picked it up for him.
Tyson first noticed the crack on the screen and paused for a moment. Then, he saw the caller ID.
It was from the Godard family matriarch, his and Edmond's mother.
Edmond seemed to know exactly who was calling. He stretched his neck, asking, "Tyson, is that mom calling?"
Tyson snorted coldly before picking up the phone. "Mom. Yeah, I'm fine. Don't worry, Mom. Okay, I'm doing well with Edmond. Got it."
He hung up, and, as Edmond waited expectantly, Tyson said with a cold expression, "Mom says she misses you and wants you to come home soon."
Edmond smiled, relieved, and said, "I miss her too. I'm on my way back." Then, in a very fake tone, he asked, "Tyson, is there anything I can help you with?"
"Just go. Don't make Mom worry." Tyson emphasized the last few words, his eyes full of warning.
"Alright, since everything's fine here, I'll be going." Edmond put on his usual elegant and gentle demeanor, exuding an air of old money.
As he passed the big guy, he nodded gracefully.
The big guy gave him a cold look and snorted through his nose, "I really can't stand guys like you, with all that strong cologne."
A crack appeared on Edmond's usually composed face. Then, as if deeply insulted, he quickly left.
His assistant followed behind, along with the bodyguards, all leaving in haste.
Once Edmond and his people disappeared from the mansion, Max and the others finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Just as Max was about to ask the big guy why he was here, the man stepped forward and approached Paisley.
"Sorry, Ms. Sutton; we're late," The big guy changed his tone from intimidating to goofy and smiled at Paisley. He then told his men, "Aren't you guys going to say hello?"
Then came the resounding voice. "Hello, Ms. Sutton!"
Paisley felt like, at this moment, she was embarrassed to death.
