Hearing Tyson's words, Max responded with a smile, neither agreeing nor disagreeing. But that smile reached deep into his eyes.
Paisley was taken aback; the conversation seemed to have veered off track. She preferred to be decisive, but hesitating like this wasn't going to get anywhere. "Mr. Godard, my ancestral home is in Harrowfell, and I..."
"The medicine's here," Ocean came in holding a bowl of medicine. "Good thing Ms. Sutton remembered, otherwise, it would've been a waste to boil down such precious medicine."
"Ms. Sutton, what were you going to say?" Tyson noticed that Paisley seemed to want to say something to him, but had been interrupted several times.
Paisley looked at the bowl of medicine. "Let's drink the medicine first."
Ocean held the bowl of medicine. "Right, it's best to drink it while it's hot."
Tyson smelled the strong medicinal scent and looked at the dark-colored broth, instinctively resisting.
"Sir, you don't know. When you were unconscious, you clenched your teeth and refused to drink the medicine no matter what. Ms. Sutton had to coax you while feeding it to you," Ocean teased Tyson with a laugh.
In his memory, Tyson had an iron will. It seemed like there was nothing he was afraid of, nothing that could break him.
But this time, he found out Tyson was actually afraid of drinking bitter medicine.
Tyson's face reddened, as if he didn't want to show weakness in front of the younger ones. He gritted his teeth and painfully drank the medicine, one mouthful at a time.
While Tyson was drinking the medicine, Paisley looked at Jake. "Thank you for your hard work. We don't need too many people here for now. Just leave a few with me and take the rest back."
But Jake was firm in his response. "Everyone else can go back, but I can't. Don't worry about it, Ms. Sutton. I'll handle the rest."
Paisley understood Jake's character and didn't push it any further. "Alright, do as you think best."
Plus, Jake was incredibly capable. With him around, it would be safe enough for one person to handle ten.
Jake gave a silly smile and turned to leave the room. After Tyson finished the medicine, his face showed a pain he couldn't hide.
"This stuff is so precious." Ocean recalled the traditional medicine doctor earlier, almost crazily licking the bottom of the bowl.
He thought, 'How bad could this medicine really be? If it is that bad, would the traditional medicine doctor really be licking the bottom like that?'
With that thought in mind, Ocean tried to mimic the traditional medicine doctor, dipping his finger into the bottom of the bowl and tasting it.
As a result, he almost vomited. After a while, he had to drink several sips of water just to wash away the bitterness.
Sure enough, this medicine that could bring people back to life was something an ordinary person like him couldn't handle. Thinking that, Ocean couldn't help but admire Tyson.
Max looked at his adopted father and could immediately tell that his father was forcing himself to drink for the sake of his pride.
He brought the water over to Tyson. "Dad, you need to get better soon so we can go to Harrowfell and pick up Brittany."
At the thought of his daughter, whom he hadn't met yet, a smile appeared on Tyson's pained face.
For a moment, it seemed like the medicine wasn't that bitter after all. He thought he still needed to meet his daughter.
While they were talking, Max's reinforcements arrived just in time. Along with them were two professional identification officers.
They brought two identification officers to ensure the parent-child verification process went smoothly without any mistakes.
The officers would handle the matter fairly and rigorously. They were only accountable to Tyson, which meant there was no chance of faking the parent-child test between Tyson and his daughter.
Originally, this group was supposed to follow Tyson and Max to Harrowfell, but Tyson had decided last minute to visit the old mansion in Brightmoor first, so they split into two groups.
He had lived here for a while with Enya, and it was the last happy time they had together.
After leaving here, they had been forced to separate. Then, he fell into a long period of amnesia.
Normally, this group would've rushed to Brightmoor after receiving Max's notification. But they encountered several obstacles on the way, which prevented them from choosing the fastest mode of transportation.
They could only travel by car, evading Edmond's people along the way, barely making it to Brightmoor. Fortunately, nothing irreparable happened, and Edmond's scheme ultimately failed.
However, even though the reinforcements and two identification officers had arrived, Tyson still couldn't head to Harrowfell immediately. With his current condition, he just couldn't handle the long trip. He felt frustrated about not being able to see his daughter right away.
"Dad, actually, we could bring Brittany and her family here," Max suggested. A paternity test could be done in Brightmoor too.
Tyson's eyes lit up, clearly interested. But soon, he shook his head. "I'd rather wait until I'm feeling better, then have the kid come."
He didn't want to meet his only daughter in such a poor condition. But he really wanted to see her. If he couldn't meet her, he'd have to settle for just looking at her things and thinking about her.
He picked up his phone again, opening a photo of his daughter, wanting to see her face again. But the crack on the screen conveniently covered her face.
He furrowed his brow and then had someone bring him another phone.
"What a shame. I wanted Ms. Sutton to see my daughter," he said weakly, shaking his phone. "Come to think of it, Ms. Sutton looks a bit like my daughter."
Otherwise, when he was unconscious, he wouldn't have mistakenly thought Paisley was Enya.
Paisley stood by the bed, looking down at the photo on her phone. She murmured softly, "Brittany."
Tyson was surprised. "Do you know this girl?"
Max glanced at Paisley, his eyes deep with surprise as well.
"Yeah, I know her." Paisley nodded. "She's the child my parents adopted."
"Your parents?" Tyson's expression became more complicated.
She had the surname Sutton, so wouldn't her father also have the surname Sutton?
"Christina and Gregory, are they your parents?" Max asked, a complicated emotion spreading through him.
Max thought, 'Could something this coincidental actually happen? The child who's about to do a paternity test with her adoptive father was actually adopted by Paisley's parents? But why doesn't Paisley have the surname Sullivan?'
Facing the confused or complicated looks from everyone, Paisley took a deep breath and finally spoke the words she had been holding back for a long time.
"Actually, I came here with a question," she looked at Tyson with burning eyes. "The only person who can give me an answer is you, Mr. Godard."
"I... me?" Tyson's gaze flickered.
"Ye.," Paisley nodded. "Since you brought the identification officers, before doing the paternity test with Brittany, please do one with me first."
The room fell silent.
