Upon hearing Morris's name, Paisley's expression changed slightly.
Max noticed it. "What? Do you know Morris?"
"I met him once at the Beaumont estate," Paisley answered truthfully.
"You've been to the Beaumont estate?" This time, it was Tyson who asked, curious about what had brought Paisley there.
"Yes, just once. Diana invited me." Tyson nodded. He knew the Diana Paisley was referring to. "Are you close to Diana?"
He wanted to understand Paisley's attitude toward the Beaumont family, as that would shape his own stance toward them moving forward.
"Not very close," Paisley responded objectively, then added her personal opinion. "But I think she's a good person."
So far, the impression she had of the others wasn't bad, but that was just her own subjective feeling.
"Oh." Tyson mentally put a big checkmark next to Diana's name and continued, "What about the others?"
"Aside from Nathaniel, I don't really know them." The only reason she was familiar with Nathaniel was that he frequently messaged her just to annoy her.
Thinking about Nathaniel, Paisley suddenly realized something.
It was now confirmed—she was Tyson's biological daughter. Based on Tyson's seniority within the Beaumont family at Harrowfell, he was on the same level as Byron.
That meant she was on the same level as Max, which put her in the same generation as Peter and Diana.
She recalled how, last time at the Beaumont estate, Morris and Julia had referred to Brittany as their "cousin."
So, by that logic, she was now Nathaniel's cousin. She couldn't help but laugh out loud. 'What a ridiculous twist of seniority,' she thought. She wondered how Nathaniel would react when he found out.
"What's so funny?" Max asked.
Paisley suppressed her laughter and waved a hand. "Nothing; just thought of something amusing."
From what Paisley had said, Tyson had a general idea.
Out of everyone in the Beaumont family, she only had a somewhat positive impression of Diana and Nathaniel.
As for the rest, she claimed not to know them well, but Tyson could sense a hint of dislike in her eyes. No matter what, it was clear that he needed to recover quickly and head to Harrowfell.
Both the Beaumont and Sullivan families had debts to settle, but it was the Sullivans who really infuriated Tyson, as they passed off an imposter as his daughter.
The more Tyson thought about it, the more gaps in the story emerged. He wondered, 'Why had my biological daughter gone missing at the age of three? Why had the Sullivans later adopted Brittany?
'Besides, Brittany is a name meant for my own daughter. Why did they name my daughter Grass, a most plain and ordinary name?'
The more Tyson thought about it, the angrier he became, and his emotions grew more turbulent. But in the next second, he met Paisley's tired eyes.
She had already exhausted herself saving him—he couldn't add to her burden. Tyson reminded himself of this and forced himself to calm down.
There were still too many unanswered questions in his mind. But he also knew that even if he asked now, considering his condition, his daughter wouldn't tell him much.
Tyson looked at Paisley, and a smile unknowingly formed on his lips. He could tell that when he had suffered earlier, there had been worry in Paisley's eyes.
The bond of blood was undeniable. Just as he had felt a strange sense of familiarity the first time he saw her, he thought his daughter must care about him too.
Tyson gazed out the window with a smile. The weather outside was beautiful, the sun shining just right.
Slowly, his smile faded, and his eyes turned sharp. He swore that those who had wronged his daughter would pay for it.
Meanwhile, in the flower hall at the Beaumont estate in Harrowfell, Brittany looked at Morris with anticipation as he put down his phone and ended the call. "So? When is my biological father coming?"
Gregory, who was standing nearby, felt a bit awkward seeing how eager Brittany was to meet her biological father.
After all, he had raised this girl like a treasure for more than twenty years. Except for the brief period when he had cruelly kicked her out, he had always treated her well. He had even treated her better than his own biological daughter, Paisley.
Yet now, all she ever talked about was that biological father she had never even met.
Still, even though Gregory felt a bit resentful, his eagerness to meet the Godard family was no less than Brittany's.
He believed that once he met the Godard family, they would surely acknowledge his years of raising Brittany and offer him something in return.
He had thought it through—it would either be money or a couple of long-term stable business projects.
Given that the Godard family was based in Montera and had no branches in Harrowfell, a long-term business project seemed impractical.
The most realistic option would be money. The Godard family was immensely wealthy. Knowing that his company was struggling, they would surely lend a hand.
And it wouldn't just be the Godard family; there was also the Beaumont family.
He could take money from the Godard family and secure business projects from the Beaumont family.
The more Gregory thought about it, the more pleased he became, and a smile unconsciously spread across his face.
His daydream was suddenly interrupted by Brittany's exasperated exclamation. "What? Health issues? He's not dying, is he?"
Gregory's daydream shattered, and he stared at Brittany in confusion.
At Brittany's words, Morris's eyes flashed with a hint of disdain. "No, he just needs to rest for now. It will take some time before he can come."
Brittany thought, 'How much longer do we have to wait?'
She was unhappy. Ever since she learned how powerful her biological parents were, she had been impatiently waiting for the Godard family to arrive in Harrowfell and conduct the paternity test.
She wanted to claim her rightful place as quickly as possible and announce to the world who she truly was. Especially to those who had once looked down on her and bullied her.
She thought, 'But now I was told to wait? Isn't my biological father supposed to care about me?'
She had heard that as soon as Tyson found out about her, he had wrapped up his work in Montera and planned to rush over, expecting to arrive within days.
"If they can't come, can I go there instead?" she asked. After all, a paternity test could be done anywhere.
Morris shook his head. "Your uncle said Tyson needs rest. We should just wait."
"Hmph, what uncle?" Brittany scoffed, looking disdainful. "Isn't he just my dad's adopted son? A child they took in with no blood relation whatsoever. Who does he think he is, making decisions on my father's behalf?"
As she spoke, she seemed to forget that she herself had once been an adopted child of the Sullivan family. She didn't realize it, but Morris and Julia did.
The couple exchanged awkward glances before looking at Christina and Gregory, who were sitting nearby.
Brittany noticed their awkward expressions and suddenly remembered her own adopted status. Her face grew uncomfortable.
