At Brightmoor, inside the doctor's office, Paisley was discussing Tyson's upcoming treatment plan with his attending physician. Just as the discussion ended, she sneezed without any warning.
"Ms. Sutton, did you catch a cold?" the doctor asked with concern.
"No. My nose just itched." She rubbed her nose and didn't think much of it.
This doctor had been specially assigned to Tyson. He had also seen Paisley perform acupuncture on Tyson before and knew she had medical knowledge.
"Alright then, that's all for now. Thank you, doctor." Paisley stood up and didn't linger in the office.
As soon as she stepped out, she received a call from Lucy, asking when she would be back since the film crew was still waiting for her.
There was nothing more to worry about with Tyson. The remaining toxins in his body had been completely cleansed. Now, he was just weak and fatigued from the poisoning.
As long as he stayed in the hospital, followed the doctor's treatment, and rested well, he would recover and be discharged soon.
After thinking for a moment, Paisley promised she would return within the next couple of days. She thought work was one thing, but more importantly, Serena was still waiting for her back in Harrowfell.
Right after ending the call with Lucy, Paisley turned around and walked straight into a tall man.
The impact made her nose sting. Instinctively, she took a step back, only to have her wrist firmly grabbed.
A sharp pain shot through her wrist, and she angrily lifted her head.
"Dominick?" She couldn't believe she was seeing Dominick here.
Dominick's face was pale, his brows tightly furrowed, with dark circles under his eyes, and a faint stubble on his lips. Even his usually well-groomed hair was messy, giving him a somewhat disheveled look.
His eyes were slightly red as he looked down at her, staring intensely. "Why are you eloping again? Where do you think you're going this time?"
Paisley was baffled, thinking, 'What kind of twisted logic does this man have? When did I ever elope?'
"Dominick, I have no idea what you're talking about or why you're even here. But as an adult with free will, I have the right to go anywhere I want in this world. So, what exactly do you mean by 'eloping'?"
Her tone was calm, her expression neutral, and even her heartbeat remained steady.
Dominick's eyes reddened even more. "Paisley, you blocked me again."
He thought, 'She even left the airport with another man. That's elopement for sure.'
Only then did Paisley remember—before boarding her flight to Harrowfell, she had gotten annoyed by Dominick's constant calls and decided to block him.
"And just because of that, you followed me all the way here?" she questioned. "Were you stalking me or investigating me?"
She knew that with Dominick's influence in Harrowfell, finding out her flight information wouldn't be difficult. But that would only tell him she had arrived in Brightmoor. Yet somehow, he had tracked her all the way to the hospital.
'Did this disgusting man plant a spy around me and follow me here?' thought Paisley.
A sense of being watched crept over her. She looked at Dominick, her gaze turning colder.
Seeing the change in her expression, Dominick realized she was misunderstanding him. "Paisley, I—"
"Paisy." Max's voice called from behind her.
From a distance, Max had already spotted Dominick standing in front of Paisley. He knew full well that Dominick was her ex-husband.
Max thought, 'Impressive. He actually chased her all the way here.'
He quickened his pace and soon reached her side. His gaze instantly got sharp at the sight of Dominick grabbing Paisley's hand.
"Let go of her," Max said coldly.
Dominick's already broken expression turned even darker the moment he saw Max. Instead of loosening his grip, he held onto Paisley even tighter.
He even pulled her closer to him with force. "Paisley, why is he here?"
"Dominick, let go of me first," Paisley said, feeling uncomfortable from his tight grip.
This wasn't a hospital ward but the hallway outside a doctor's office. Many patients and medical staff were passing by, and now, all eyes were on them.
Being the center of attention made Paisley feel awful.
Max's eyes grew even colder. He stepped forward aggressively, pressing toward Dominick. "I told you to let go of her. Didn't you hear me?"
"Paisley, answer me. Why is he here? Why are you with him? Can you at least tell me that?" Dominick ignored Max completely, his bloodshot eyes locked onto Paisley, desperately searching her face for an answer.
Paisley tried to pull her wrist away, but he wouldn't let go. So, she used her free hand, pressing firmly on a pressure point in Dominick's arm.
The next second, a sharp pain shot through his arm. His face tensed up, and he instinctively loosened his grip.
The moment she broke free, Paisley quickly stepped behind Max, putting a barrier between her and Dominick. But her action felt like a dagger stabbing into Dominick's heart.
Dominick's expression shifted instantly. He hunched slightly, retreating in pain until he leaned against the wall.
Paisley noticed that something was off with Dominick. "What's wrong with you?"
Dominick didn't answer her question. He just stared at her with red eyes. "So, you chose him in the end, huh?"
Dominick concluded that Paisley blocked his number once again because she wanted to disappear from his world.
"Paisy, Dad's still waiting for us to come back," Max said casually.
"Okay," Paisley replied softly.
Dominick hung his head, his body trembling slightly.
