"Dom." Julian rushed over, holding a receipt and medicine, his face filled with worry.
He stopped when he noticed Paisley and Max standing next to her.
"What are you two doing here?" Julian asked in surprise.
Max kept his cool and sneered, "We should be asking you that, shouldn't we?"
Julian quickly picked up on the fact that Max had referred to him and Paisley as "we."
Julian furrowed his brows, thinking, 'That fast, huh? They're already viewing themselves as a couple?'
He glanced back at Dominick, whose pale face was twisted in pain, and couldn't help but feel it wasn't worth it. But he had no position to criticize Paisley. She wasn't cheating, after all.
Dominick leaned against the wall, staggering to stand up.
Seeing this, Julian quickly went to support him. "Dom."
Dominick waved him off, signaling that he was fine. He stepped forward and said to Paisley, "Paisley, whether you believe it or not, I didn't follow you here."
Julian quickly pulled out the medicine to back him up. "Dom's not feeling well. We came here to see a doctor. He's been searching for you the past few days, not eating or drinking, and it's taken a toll on his health."
Julian thought his explanation might make Paisley feel sorry for Dominick.
However, Paisley frowned, "But why is he looking for me? We've been divorced for four years, haven't we?"
Paisley didn't want to waste more time with Julian. She turned to Dominick. "You said you didn't follow me here, but how did you end up in Brightmoor? Don't you think your words are contradictory?"
Dominick let out a self-deprecating laugh. He really had no way to argue with that.
Before Paisley left Harrowfell, he did secretly arrange for someone to keep an eye on her. But his goal at the time was to protect her. After the incident with the big light falling, he couldn't just stand by.
To avoid making Paisley uncomfortable, he told the people keeping an eye on her to stay away and not disturb her life.
That was why he didn't know right away where Paisley was heading when she left. He only came to Brightmoor because he wanted to ask Paisley one question and get an answer.
Dominick looked at Max standing next to Paisley, his fingers twitching at his sides. Now, he already had the answer.
"Let's go," Paisley said to Max.
"Okay." Max took a step back, following Paisley as they left. Before turning away, he gave Dominick one last look with meaningful eyes.
Julian watched helplessly as Paisley and Max left together. He anxiously asked Dominick, "Dom, are you just letting her walk away like that?"
Then, Julian's eyes dropped. "Dom, you're bleeding."
When Dominick had been getting the IV, he had caught sight of Paisley.
There wasn't time to call the nurse to remove the needle, so he pulled it out himself and chased after her.
It was probably from grabbing Paisley earlier that he ended up bleeding from the needle mark.
Drops of blood fell one by one from the back of his hand to the floor.
Dominick didn't notice until Paisley's figure disappeared. Then he staggered and turned. "Let's go."
Julian thought Dominick was going back to continue his IV, but Dominick walked straight out of the hospital and got into a car.
Julian quickly followed, looking at Dominick sitting in the back seat, his eyes dull. "Dom, you're not well yet. You should go back and continue your IV."
Dominick closed his eyes, leaned back in the seat, and his eyelashes fluttered. "Go to Harrowfell."
Compared to his body, it was his heart that hurt more.
But he knew, it was beyond hope for him now...
"But—" Julian wanted to say something, but when he saw Dominick's look of suffering, he knew there was nothing he could say that would make a difference.
It was better to go back to Harrowfell, at least he wouldn't have to stay here, watching Paisley with other men, getting angry.
Julian turned around and instructed the driver to start the car.
Just as Paisley and Max returned to the ward, Tyson noticed that something was off with their moods.
"What's wrong?" Tyson asked, thinking, 'What has happened in such a short time?'
Max looked at Paisley. Since it involved her personal matter, he didn't feel it was his place to speak.
Paisley was quite calm. "It's nothing. I just ran into my ex-husband."
Tyson's face darkened immediately upon hearing this.
Although his precious daughter hadn't told him much directly, from the few words she had said, he could vaguely guess what had happened.
Tyson thought, 'That damn brat must have done something to hurt my daughter, and that's why they got divorced.
But the fact that there are no pictures of their son in Paisley's phone is enough to show her determination to cut ties with the past. What must have happened back then to make her so resolute? How heartbroken has she been?'
"Where is that damn brat? What's he doing here? Is he bothering you?" Tyson was furious.
"No, he's here for treatment." Paisley didn't want to talk too much about Dominick with Tyson.
First, they were divorced and had no connection anymore, so there was no need to say too much.
Second, Tyson's health wasn't good, and she didn't want to trigger any strong emotional reactions.
Tyson's furrowed brow relaxed slightly. "Paisy, if you ever feel wronged, you have to tell me right away. My daughter can't be wronged."
Paisley froze for a moment, a strange and unfamiliar feeling spreading through her.
Paisley hesitated to respond, so Tyson's heart skipped a beat. He thought she hadn't accepted him yet, and he cautiously looked at her.
He said, "I know, over all these years, I haven't fulfilled my duties as a father. Even though you never said it, I can still imagine the kind of suffering you must have gone through, suffering most people can't even imagine."
Tyson paused, his heart aching. "I know you can't accept me right away, but I beg you, give me a chance to make it up to you. Is that okay?"
Max looked at Tyson with a deep gaze. In this world, the only one who could make Tyson so humble was probably Paisley.
Paisley quietly listened to Tyson, their eyes meeting. Finally, she nodded and softly replied, "Okay."
Tyson smiled, a smile like a child receiving a reward.
Since there was still work to do in Harrowfell and Paisley really wanted to see Serena, she bought a plane ticket to Harrowfell for that night.
Knowing his precious daughter was leaving that night, Tyson felt a thousand times reluctant. "Can't you wait until I get better? We can leave together."
He hoped he could get better sooner.
Paisley decisively shook her head. "No, I have work to do."
"What work? My daughter doesn't need to work." Tyson said it instinctively, but then he met Paisley's look, as if to say, "Stop joking."
Tyson immediately became obedient. "Then... can't you take a leave?"
"The two days I've spent here have already delayed a lot of work." Seeing Tyson's pitiful look, Paisley paused and softened her tone. "And besides, your granddaughter misses me."
Tyson's previously dimmed gaze suddenly lit up at the word "granddaughter", and he kept thinking of the little girl's photo Paisley had shown him earlier.
"Then you go back. Don't make the child wait too long. Once I feel better, I'll come see you both immediately."
Paisley thought, 'He sure could change faces quickly.'
