That evening, Max personally took Paisley to the airport.
"I've already spoken to Jake. If you need anything while you're in Brightmoor, you can contact him," Paisley told Max before they parted.
Max looked at Paisley seriously. "Okay, I got it."
He thought, 'What should I do? It seems like I have only ever given Paisley the impression that she has to help me. Looks like I have to change that impression quickly.'
"Also..." Paisley's expression was a bit unnatural. "Mr. Godard needs to rest now, and try not to have any big emotional swings. If anything comes up, you can call me."
For now, she still couldn't call him "Dad."
Hearing Paisley still refer to her foster father as Mr. Godard, Max raised an eyebrow but didn't correct her. He understood changing how she addressed someone was a process.
He nodded. "Okay."
Paisley checked the time and said, "I'm going through security now."
"Mm, see you," Max replied, watching Paisley until she passed through security, then he turned his gaze away and walked toward the airport exit.
Leo followed beside him, his eyes darting around. "Hey, Max, does that mean I'll have to start calling Ms. Sutton from now on?"
"Yeah, that's right." Since she was his adoptive father's biological daughter, she was naturally the eldest daughter of the Godard family.
"Got it." Leo nodded, thinking that the next time he saw Paisley, he'd call her 'Miss Sutton.' Then, something came to mind, and he gave Max a complicated look. "So, Max, what will Miss Sutton call you from now on?"
Max's gaze faltered slightly; it wasn't like he hadn't thought about this question.
But from the moment he learned about Paisley's relationship with his adoptive father until now, when Paisley had left, only one day had passed.
And in that time, he had also been busy with matters concerning his adoptive father, so he hadn't had time to think through what to call her.
"Well, technically, she should call me..." Max paused for a moment before continuing, "brother."
Leo pursed his lips and didn't ask any more questions. Technically, that was the way it should be. But, not everything in this world followed the rules.
Paisley arrived back at Harrowfell late that night. By the time she reached the villa, it was already very late.
She didn't want Maria and Serena to stay up waiting for her, so she hadn't told them her exact return time.
When Serena woke up the next morning and saw her mother lying next to her, she was shocked.
She pinched her little face to make sure she wasn't dreaming, then excitedly jumped into Paisley's arms, saying, "Mom!"
Maria, who woke up to Serena's voice, thought the child was just missing her mother again. She quickly walked over, only to see the mother and daughter hugging. "Paisy, when did you come back?"
Paisley kissed her daughter's cheek and smiled at Maria. "I came back this morning. It was too late, so I didn't tell you in advance. I didn't want you to stay up waiting for me."
"You, how could you not tell me? If I had known you were coming back so late, I would've at least prepared some late-night snacks for you," Maria scolded lightly.
Linna walked over with red eyes. "It's fine. Paisley already ate with me last night. I made instant noodles myself, and they tasted amazing."
Maria shot a glare at Linna. "I've told you so many times, if you want something to eat, just tell me. Don't eat those unhealthy things."
"Alright. I'll go make breakfast for you," Maria said as she headed to the kitchen.
Linna and Paisley exchanged a smile. Even though Maria had scolded them, they weren't upset.
Paisley, holding Serena, went to the bathroom to wash up. While doing so, she said to Linna, who had followed her, "Tell those from the Godard family to go back."
"Mm, okay." Linna nodded.
After washing up, Paisley took Serena to the walk-in closet and began changing her clothes. "Has there been any movement from Christina while I've been gone the past two days?"
Linna lazily leaned against the doorframe. Thinking about that family, she couldn't hide her disdain. "Nothing special. She hasn't met with that man. As for the man, he's been quiet these past two days. No unusual behavior."
"Mm..." Paisley responded faintly, her eyes lingering on Serena, who was surrounded by a wall of clothes.
"Mom, I want to wear this one," Serena said, pointing at one of the outfits.
"Alright," Paisley said, picking it out and dressing Serena.
Linna just stayed by the doorframe, waiting for Paisley's next instruction.
Paisley said, "Christina took my hair and blood, probably to do a paternity test with Brittany and my biological father."
Linna's eyes changed. She had already anticipated this outcome. 'Otherwise, why would she take hair if it weren't for something like this?' she thought.
"But I got a step ahead and did a paternity test with my biological father myself." Paisley's calm words caused Linna to stand up straight in surprise. "So, Paisley, did you go to Brightmoor to do the paternity test?"
Linna thought, 'Wasn't she supposed to be there to save someone? How did she end up getting a new father?'
"Yeah. I had to know the truth before I could make my final decision," Paisley said, finishing dressing Serena and sending her to Maria.
After having breakfast with Serena, Paisley left for the set alone. Linna also followed.
"Maria, do Mom and Linna have something to do?" Serena blinked, asking Maria. She'd had so much fun playing with Linna these past few days, and she had hoped Linna would stay and play with her today.
Maria usually didn't ask about what Paisley was doing outside. "Mm, they both have things to do."
Serena pouted, "Adults are so busy."
She didn't want to grow up at all. She didn't want to be this busy every day.
Maria smiled, "You still have me, don't you? How about we go out and have some fun after dinner?"
The past few days, Maria hadn't dared to take Serena out. Not only had it driven Serena crazy, but it had also driven her crazy.
Inside the set, everyone was eagerly awaiting Nion's return.
Gary was the first to rush over, saying, "Nion, welcome back."
Since the incident where Paisley had nearly been crushed by a large light, Gary had been filled with guilt whenever he saw her.
Sheela jogged over. "Nion, are you okay?"
Paisley really liked this actress. If Sheela hadn't noticed something wrong right away and told her, she wouldn't have caught on so quickly.
So, thanks to Sheela, everything had gone smoothly afterward.
"Yeah, I'm fine; thank you." Paisley said this from the bottom of her heart.
Sheela smiled and waved it off. Despite being a stunning beauty, she was a bit of a dork in private.
Sam and his manager rushed over, greeted Paisley briefly, then quickly left, heads down.
After everyone who had gathered around Paisley left, Sheela quietly asked, "So, that crew member, he really was the problem, right?"
She figured that since Nion hadn't been around for a couple of days, she must have been investigating that crew member.
Sheela looked mysteriously serious, making Paisley laugh despite herself. "Yeah, he definitely had issues."
"Huh?" Sheela opened her mouth. "So, is the problem solved?"
Paisley's gaze drifted far off. "Almost."
Outside the studio, Dominick's car was parked far away. The dark windows of the car made it impossible for people outside to see anything inside. But the people inside the car could clearly see everything outside.
The driver, looking through the rearview mirror, observed Dominick in the back seat, somewhat puzzled.
"Mr. Vanderbilt, aren't we getting out?" Julian had stayed at the company to deal with business, so this was the first time he was out on duty with Dominick alone, and he felt a bit nervous.
Through the car window, Dominick looked at Paisley inside the studio. "No."
He thought, 'She probably doesn't want to see me.'
