As soon as the analysts finished reading the results, an eerie silence filled the ward.
Tyson narrowed his eyes, staring into the distance with an unreadable expression.
At the same time, more results kept coming in.
The officer in charge of Enya's murder case called to confirm that the DNA extracted from the suspect's hair and blood sample—provided by Paisley—was identical to the DNA left behind by the murderer all those years ago.
In other words, the man who had repeatedly tried to kill Paisley was the very same person who had murdered Enya.
Upon hearing this, Tyson could no longer stay in Brightmoor. He wanted to see Paisley immediately—everything needed to be settled once and for all.
At Vanderbilt Manor in Harrowfell, Dominick, still suffering from a hangover, was in poor condition.
He pressed his palm against his forehead, dazed, as he stepped out of the elevator.
Lauren set down her teacup and looked at him worriedly. "You drank all night yesterday and are heading to work this early? Can your body handle it?"
Over the past few days, for some unknown reason, Dominick had been getting drunk every night.
When Julian was asked about it, he only said the gatherings weren't important business events. Besides, with Dominick's status, even at important social events, no one would dare force him to drink. So if he ended up completely drunk, it could only be because of himself.
"I'm fine," Dominick responded calmly. He grabbed the suit jacket draped over his arm with one hand and started putting it on.
"How can you be fine?" Lauren stopped him. "You drank so much last night. At least have some breakfast before going to the office. If you keep this up, how will your body take it?"
Kayla walked over with a piece of bread in her mouth. When she saw the state her brother was in, she teased, "Dominick, you're not trying to make yourself look miserable to gain sympathy from Miss Sutton, are you?"
Kayla no longer treated Paisley intimately, but it wasn't because she resented her. It was because she had figured things out.
After all, Paisley and Dominick had been divorced for four years. Maybe Paisley really wanted to draw a clear line and start a new life. If she kept treating as family, it would be a bit inappropriate.
Of course, deep down, she desperately hoped Dominick would win Paisley back.
Kayla had only been joking, but she hadn't expected Dominick's expression to darken the moment he heard it. "Don't mention her."
"Huh?" Kayla rubbed her forehead in frustration, completely baffled. "What's up with you now?"
"She has a boyfriend." Dominick lowered his gaze. Just saying those words made his heart feel like it was being torn apart.
"What? That guy from the Beaumont family?" Lauren's first thought was Nathaniel.
"Not him." Dominick clearly didn't want to talk about it anymore and started walking toward the door.
Kayla sighed, "Good thing Sonny is at school. If he heard this, he'd definitely cry."
Hearing Kayla's words, Dominick hesitated for a moment but was about to continue walking when Reginald stepped out of the study and called out to him.
"Dominick, wait a moment." There was an indescribable expression on Reginald's face. "The Beaumont family is inviting our entire family over for dinner tonight."
"Our whole family?" Lauren's eyes widened. "Is it something important? Do we all have to go? Can't we just send a representative?"
Lauren really didn't want to go to the Beaumonts, especially since she didn't want to see Diana.
"Yeah, I don't want to go either. Dad, why don't you and Dominick go?" Kayla really disliked these kinds of occasions. She'd rather stay home and paint.
"No, everyone has to go," Reginald said firmly.
"What exactly is going on?" Dominick asked.
"It's a family recognition ceremony," Reginald explained.
Lauren scoffed, unimpressed, "It's just a recognition ceremony. Does it really require our entire family? Do the Beaumonts even have that kind of influence?"
"The Beaumonts don't. But what about the Beaumonts teaming up with the Godard family?"
Reginald's rhetorical question stunned everyone in the room.
"The Beaumonts have family ties with the Godard family?" Lauren found it unbelievable and even more frustrating.
She was already at a disadvantage compared to Diana in every way. Fortunately, in Harrowfell, the Vanderbilt family had already surpassed the Beaumonts. But now, if the Beaumonts were suddenly allied with the Godard family, that would be a game changer.
"Yes, from what I heard, the person they found is the Godard family's heiress, and her biological mother happens to be Byron's youngest sister." Reginald had to hear the explanation twice before fully understanding the connection.
Lauren was still trying to piece it all together, but Kayla was already staring in shock. "Oh my, so that means this newly found heiress is Nathaniel's aunt? And she's also the Godard family's heiress, right?"
Since Nathaniel was the youngest in his family and also Dominick's classmate, Kayla knew him.
"That's right," Reginald confirmed.
Kayla exaggerated her reaction and then said, "So Nathaniel and I are from the same generation. Does that mean I have to treat her as my 'aunt' too?"
She turned to Dominick. "What about Dominick? Does he have to treat her that way as well?"
Dominick's face darkened, and he ignored Kayla. "Got it. I'll try to make it there tonight."
Reginald nodded. "Then we'll head over separately."
