Paisley finally lost her patience and slapped Christina hard across the face.
The slap jolted Christina back to her senses. She glared at Paisley with a twisted expression. "You bitch! How dare you hit me. Why did you come back? Why didn't you just die out there? I threw you away when you were three years old! How are you still alive?"
Paisley recalled the nightmare from when she was three. She had indeed nearly died. But fate hadn't allowed her to perish. She finally found her grandfather.
"Of course, I had to come back. I came to take your life—to avenge my own and my mother's." Paisley had never hated anyone as much as she hated Christina. If not for the last shred of reason holding her back, she didn't know what she might do.
The mere thought of that freezing winter night twenty-five years ago, when Enya was murdered in the alley outside their home, made her blood boil.
Even in her final moments, Enya had been worried about Brittany. The thought made Paisley want to kill Christina with her own hands. "Why did you kill her? She was so good to Brittany! Isn't that what you wanted? Why did you still have to kill her?"
"What did you say?" Byron's aged voice rang out. He leaned on his cane and walked to Paisley's side. "She was the one who killed Enya?"
At that moment, Byron suddenly recalled Bruce's earlier words—Christina was linked to two murder cases. He thought, 'One of the cases is an attempted murder of Paisley, so the other one is about my sister, Enya?'
Christina glanced at Zain, who stood beside her with his mouth agape, tears welling in his eyes. She let out a sneer. "Since you've already caught him, don't you know everything by now? Why are you still asking me?"
But as she stared at Paisley's face, which looked so much like Enya's, she suddenly felt the urge to speak. "Of course, I had to kill her. If she were still alive, how could I rightfully take back my precious daughter, Brittany?"
As Christina spoke, she turned to look at Tyson, her expression full of malice. She knew Tyson's health was deteriorating and that he needed to rest. So she intended to provoke him.
"Come to think of it, this is all your fault. Why did you suddenly stop coming home, leaving Enya to raise the child alone? She had to work while searching for you every day, so she had no choice but to hire someone to care for the child.
"I saw several times that the nanny she hired didn't treat my Brittany well. How could I possibly let my daughter's quality of life suffer?"
Watching Tyson's face turn pale, Christina continued, "So, I had to get rid of your daughter and then kill Enya. Only by making Brittany an orphan could I take her in as her mother's 'best friend'—legitimately.
"Too bad for Enya, huh? Until the day she died, she never knew that the daughter she lovingly raised for three years was actually mine. And her own biological daughter? I threw her up in the wild to be eaten by wolves!"
Christina had succeeded. Her words struck Tyson like a dagger.
Tyson's face turned ashen, his breathing became labored, and his heart pounded violently as if it would burst from his chest at any moment.
"Dad!" Max cried out anxiously, looking up at Paisley. "Paisy, check on Dad!"
Forcing herself to stay calm, Paisley checked Tyson's pulse and handed her medical pouch to Max. "Take out the medicine inside and give him one pill."
As she spoke, she pressed down firmly on Tyson's acupressure points.
Max quickly retrieved the pill and placed it in Tyson's mouth.
"Lift his chin and help him swallow it," Paisley instructed, her hands still applying pressure, and her forehead already damp with sweat.
Everyone in the room held their breath, their eyes fixed on the scene before them. Aside from the Vanderbilt family, the others looked on in tense silence.
"Mr. Godard's condition doesn't look good; could he really be dying from anger because of that woman?" Daisy asked worriedly.
She was, of course, on Paisley's side. She didn't want Paisley to lose her father right after reuniting with him—especially not because of Christina.
"Don't worry. My idol is amazing. She's the heir to the Ancient Medical Arts. Even the legendary Charles is her apprentice," Kayla boasted about Paisley's skills without hesitation.
The members of the Beaumont family listened to these words intently. Especially Byron—his gaze toward Paisley had completely changed.
After a few minutes, Tyson's pale face finally regained some color, and his breathing and heartbeat steadied.
"What? Paisley, what did you do? How do you know all this, Paisley?" Christina had expected Tyson to die before her eyes, but instead, Paisley had saved him right in front of her.
Paisley exhaled, straightened up, and looked at Christina with steely resolve. "I was willing to show a little mercy. I thought Brittany might be trash, but at least she was innocent. I even considered giving her a respectable status for the future. But now? There's no need for that anymore."
An inexplicable sense of panic rose in Christina's heart. Meanwhile, beside her, Zain was already struggling in emotional turmoil.
Paisley took out another paternity test report from Leo. Unlike the previous three reports, this one she handed directly to Gregory.
With an icy tone, Paisley said, "Take a look. You'll thank me for this."
