Over lunch, Max brought up the trip back to Montera.
As the head of the Godard family in Montera, Tyson was never meant to stay in Harrowfell for long—especially after the poisoning incident and Edmond's ambush. Urgent matters awaited in Montera, requiring both Tyson and Max's attention.
They had set their departure for two days later. Originally, Tyson had wanted Paisley to bring Serena along. But Serena wasn't in the right condition for long-distance travel, and Paisley was too busy with her filming commitments.
In the end, Paisley could only promise Tyson that she'd take Serena to Montera for Christmas. By then, Serena would have fully recovered. And Paisley's work on set would also be at a manageable point.
At the airport, Tyson held Serena in his arms, reluctant to let go. Even though it was time to board, he still refused to put her down. He didn't say anything, but his red eyes gave away how much he hated leaving.
"Grandpa, I'm going to miss you." Serena, acting like a little grown-up, gently stroked Tyson's face with her tiny hands.
She had already gotten used to calling him Grandpa, and the words rolled off her tongue naturally.
Tyson had been holding back his tears, but as soon as she said that, he couldn't stop them from falling. He really didn't want to part with Serena—or with Paisley. After finally reuniting with Serena and Paisley, he wanted nothing more than to stay by their side.
"Don't cry, Grandpa. Mommy and I will come see you for Christmas." Serena copied the way Paisley usually comforted her, trying to console Tyson.
Tyson couldn't help but chuckle through his tears at her grown-up mannerisms. "Alright, Grandpa will be waiting. I'll even build you a big castle at our house in Montera. When you come, you can play in it."
Serena's eyes lit up at the mention of a big castle. She almost wanted to leave with him right then and there. "Really? You have to promise me, Grandpa. I want a big castle!"
"I never break a promise. Pinky swear." Tyson mimicked the hand gesture Serena had taught him and linked pinkies with her.
"Sir, it's time to board," Ocean reminded Tyson.
Ocean didn't want to leave either.
Staying in Harrowfell had been a nice break for him. No endless headaches, no urgent matters—just peaceful days spent playing with the kid. It was the closest thing to a carefree, family life he'd ever had.
After living a comfortable life for so long, going back to Montera didn't seem appealing anymore. But there was no choice—he had to return.
Tyson looked gloomy, but he had no choice but to hand Serena back to Paisley. "Paisy, I'm leaving."
"Bye." Paisley still hadn't called him "Dad." Seeing Tyson reluctant to part with her made her throat tighten. That word just wouldn't come out.
"Don't worry, I'll take good care of Dad." Max looked at Paisley with deep eyes. "You take care of yourself too. Make sure you eat on time, don't overwork yourself. If you need anything, just call me."
Listening to Max's heartfelt reminders warmed Paisley's heart. "Okay, I got it."
"Max, if we don't leave now, we won't make it." Leo checked the time and gave him a heads-up.
Because of Tyson's health, they were taking his private jet back this time.
The flight route had to be approved in advance, and if they missed the scheduled departure, the application would be voided.
If they had to reapply, they'd have to go through the whole process again, which would cause a significant delay.
"Alright." Max knew they couldn't waste any more time. He gave Paisley one last deep look. "I'll be waiting for you in Montera."
"Mm, okay," Paisley responded lightly.
"Paisy, I'm leaving." Tyson repeated, then waved at Serena with red-rimmed eyes. "Rena, I'm going now."
Serena had been excited about finally getting a big castle, but now that they were actually saying goodbye, she couldn't hold back her tears. "Goodbye, Grandpa."
The moment she started crying, the sadness of parting became even stronger.
Sitting in his wheelchair, Tyson kept waving, his eyes full of reluctance.
As Max turned the wheelchair around, Paisley knew if she didn't say goodbye now, it would be too late.
Her lips parted and closed, but her throat felt blocked. Hugging Serena, she hesitated before taking two steps forward.
Finally, she gathered the courage. "Dad."
Tyson, who had been resting his hands on his lap, suddenly gripped the armrests of his wheelchair. "Stop! Turn me around!"
His voice was shaking as he turned back toward Paisley. "Paisy, what did you just call me?"
After breaking through the psychological barrier, Paisley suddenly felt a sense of relief. "Dad."
This time, her voice was louder and more certain.
Tyson smiled. Then, as he kept smiling, tears rolled down his face. He had thought he wouldn't get to hear Paisley call him "Dad" this time. After all, so many days had passed since they reunited, and she still addressed him formally as "you."
But that one word—Dad—was like a sugar-filled bomb exploding in Tyson's heart.
"Dad, take care on the way." Paisley's eyes were slightly red, her voice choked, but she was smiling.
Tyson had already been reluctant to leave, and now that Paisley had finally called him Dad, it was even harder for him to go.
In the end, after much back and forth, they barely made it onto the plane on time.
Even after takeoff, Tyson's eyes were still red.
"Sir, Christmas is coming up—you'll see them again soon." Ocean tried to comfort him.
Tyson took the handkerchief Ocean handed him and wiped the corners of his eyes. "Yeah, I need to take care of all those messy affairs before Paisy and Rena arrive."
"That won't be easy," Ocean sighed. "As long as Anna is around, no one can touch Edmond."
It wasn't that Anna was an overly biased mother—she was just getting older and wanted the family to stay harmonious.
Since Tyson was the eldest, Anna had higher expectations for him and naturally demanded more from him.
Just like with the poisoning incident—if it hadn't been for Anna's phone call, Tyson wouldn't have let Edmond off so easily.
Tyson knew that until Anna completely lost hope in Edmond, he, as the elder brother, couldn't do much to his younger brother. But at the very least, he needed to go back and put some pressure on him—to make him restrain himself a little.
Time seemed to speed up after that. Paisley was busy on set every day, and in the blink of an eye, Christmas's Eve arrived.
As promised, Gary gave everyone a few days off for the holiday, planning to resume filming after the break.
Serena kept talking about her big castle every day, constantly asking Paisley when they could go see Grandpa. So the moment the production team went on break, Paisley packed up their things, getting ready to take Serena to Montera.
This time, Maria wasn't going with them. Paisley gave her a holiday so she could go back to Brightmoor and spend Christmas with her family.
She also gave Lucy time off. The girl had been working non-stop for so long—she deserved a proper break.
At the villa, Emery was helping Paisley and Serena pack their luggage.
Seeing how listless Emery looked, Paisley couldn't help but ask, "What's wrong?"
