Seeing Keeley standing up for her, Josie felt a warmth in her heart.
Even though Keeley was a bit spoiled, she still sided with Josie. All the affection Josie had shown her over the years wasn't in vain.
"It's just a title. I don't really care," Josie said as she wiped Keeley's tears. "Besides, no matter what happens, that girl still has to call me 'aunt.'"
Someone like Josie, a true lady who had been pampered since birth, wouldn't care about trivial things like how people addressed her.
Keeley felt frustrated that her attempt to sow discord had failed. "But—but Cole humiliated me in front of so many people. He said this is the Godard family, and I'm just someone with the last name Pelosi.
"He also said that in this house, the eldest master makes the rules, and since that girl is his only bloodline, she'll be the one calling the shots in the future. If she wants to kick me out, she can just do it."
"What?" Josie frowned at those words, clearly annoyed. "Who dares to kick you out without my permission? Did Cole say that, or was it my niece?"
"It—it must've been that girl who told Cole to say it. I'm your sister-in-law, which makes me her elder, no matter what. I visited her out of kindness, but she refused to meet me and even said she'd throw me out. I'm so furious. She's completely disrespecting you as well!"
Keeley's voice grew louder, and she started speaking faster. That was the only way to cover up her guilty conscience.
After all, that wasn't exactly what Cole had said. And it wasn't how Paisley had phrased it to him either. The whole thing was just because Keeley felt humiliated and couldn't let it go.
Keeley wanted to make Josie angry enough to stand up for her in public, so that both Paisley and Cole would lose face.
And sure enough, Josie's expression darkened. "She's already putting on airs the moment she arrives?"
Josie no longer felt like continuing her essential oil massage. She had even prepared a gift for her niece, whom she had never met before. But now, it seemed unnecessary.
Josie thought Paisley was just as the rumors had described—short-sighted and only interested in personal gain.
"Well, it makes sense. She didn't grow up with my brother, so she's never had access to nice things. I guess this is what happens when poor people suddenly come into wealth." Josie draped a silk robe over her shoulders and led Keeley out of the spa room.
When they reached her massive walk-in closet, Josie picked up a limited-edition handbag worth over one million and handed it to Keeley. "I was planning to give this to that girl, but since she doesn't know how to behave, there's no need. You keep it—it should cheer you up."
Keeley's eyes lit up as she stared at the bag in her hands. She had been eyeing this bag for a long time, just waiting for the right chance to ask for it. But now, she didn't even have to say a word, and the bag was hers.
Keeley thought, 'Of course, a bag this exquisite deserves to be carried by me. Giving it to that girl would've been such a waste.'
"Thanks, dear Josie," Keeley said in a sweet, coy voice, still pretending to look wronged. She was good at acting pitiful in front of Josie—it always got her plenty of benefits.
She thought this would make Josie even more upset and push her to immediately go teach that butler and the girl a lesson. But this time, she miscalculated.
After handing Keeley the bag, Josie didn't do anything else.
"Josie, aren't you mad anymore?" asked Keeley, thinking, 'She was so angry just a moment ago.'
Josie frowned slightly, but then quickly smoothed her expression—wrinkles were not an option for her. "Of course I'm mad."
"Then let's go put that girl in her place. She needs to learn who's really in charge of this family." Keeley kept trying to fan the flames. But no matter what, the fire wouldn't ignite.
Sitting in front of the mirror, Josie admired her own flawless reflection. "Keeley, no matter what, that girl is Tyson's biological daughter. She's new here and doesn't know the rules yet.
"I'll talk to my brother privately and find someone to teach her. What, you think I, as her aunt, should really stoop to her level? That would just be embarrassing."
Josie had spent her whole life enjoying luxury—she wasn't about to waste her time on pointless drama.
"But, Josie—"
"Oh, right." Josie suddenly remembered something and cut Keeley off. "Didn't you say you had your eye on someone in Harrowfell before?"
Keeley's eyes lit up again. "Yes. His name is Dominick—he's the president of Vanderbilt Group in Harrowfell."
Keeley had originally gone to Harrowfell just to visit a college friend, but she hadn't expected to meet a man as stunning as Dominick.
Unfortunately, just as her friend had warned, normal people had no way of getting close to Dominick. Even Keeley had no way of reaching him.
So the moment Keeley got back to Montera, she told Josie about how Dominick had saved her and how she had fallen for him. She couldn't approach Dominick, but Josie definitely could.
"Yeah." Josie nodded. "I asked around through my connections. Apparently, Mr. Vanderbilt is on vacation and will be coming to Montera this week."
"Really?" Keeley's excitement skyrocketed, as she was going to see Dominick again.
Even now, she could still picture the moment Dominick had saved her in her time of need. With just one punch, Dominick had knocked out the bad guy's teeth and left his nose bleeding. He had looked so incredibly cool.
"Yeah," Josie yawned, starting to feel sleepy. "One of my childhood friends has business dealings with Mr. Vanderbilt. I can introduce you two."
"That's amazing. Josie, take me with you when you meet him!" Keeley clung excitedly to Josie's arm.
"Alright. As long as he agrees to meet, I'll bring you along." For Josie, something like this was barely an inconvenience.
Keeley finally felt relieved and even managed to get her hands on such an amazing bag.
She was thinking about taking advantage of the situation and having Josie take her to vent her frustration on Cole and Paisley. But Josie was already yawning.
"Ugh, Keeley, I'm tired. I'm gonna take a nap first. You go have fun. If you need money, just ask your brother. I just gave him a bunch." With that, Josie got up, swayed her hips and headed to her bedroom.
As she walked, Josie reminded her personal maid, "Wake me up before dinner."
That basically meant no one should disturb her until then.
Keeley stood there, clutching the bag worth over one million, her eyes glaring viciously in the direction of Josie's bedroom. "Useless idiot."
Over at the main house, Paisley had no idea what had just happened. She was even more unaware that someone had started resenting her for no reason, without her having done anything.
Just as Paisley finished settling in, Max got a call from Cole, saying that Anna had woken up from her nap and was eager to see Paisley.
