Serena felt so wronged and completely confused. She didn't get it. She hadn't even cried yet, but Bella, who was much older than her, did so.
Bella pointed at the gold jewelry in Bella's hand and said to Paisley, "Mommy, that's my thing. Great-grandma gave it to me."
Florence wasn't thinking that far. She just assumed her precious daughter had been bullied. Glaring up angrily, she suddenly locked eyes with a pair of cool, aristocratic eyes.
She froze for a second and instinctively asked, "Who are you?"
"Paisley." Paisley's red lips parted slightly as she spoke in a calm, distant voice.
Florence's pupils shrank. She knew the name Paisley. Even more, she knew Paisley was Tyson's daughter.
Florence's husband was Christopher, the son of Edmond, and Bella was their daughter—the only child in the entire mansion.
But all of that changed the moment Paisley arrived with Serena.
This morning, before leaving for work, Christopher had specifically reminded Florence that Paisley would be coming back with her daughter today. He had told her to keep an eye on Bella and make sure she didn't get into any conflicts with Paisley's daughter.
After just one moment, things turned out like this.
'But is it really Bella's fault? Wasn't it that kid who stole Bella's gold jewelry first?' thought Florence, and then met Paisley's cold gaze fearlessly. 'So what if she is Paisley's daughter? She's still not a Godard.
'Bella, on the other hand, is a Godard, cherished by everyone, especially Anna. Paisley is just bringing her daughter back to visit her maternal home, while I and Bella are the real deal of this house.'
The more Florence thought about it, the more confident she felt. Her gaze toward Paisley turned smug. "Oh, so you're Uncle's daughter. I'm Florence. You should know who I am. Technically, I should call you my cousin."
"That's your daughter, right? How come she has no manners at all? She just got here and already started stealing things. Didn't you teach her any better?" with her confidence boosted, Florence spoke without hesitation.
"Who are you calling ill-mannered?" A cold, authoritative voice suddenly rang out from behind Florence, carrying a hint of anger.
The shock sent a chill down Florence's spine. She quickly turned around and found herself staring at Tyson's ice-cold face. "Uncle, why are you here?"
It wasn't just Tyson. Edmond, Florence's father-in-law, and her husband Christopher were there too. And walking at the very end was Josie's husband, Zim.
Tyson didn't respond. Instead, he locked eyes with Florence. "You still haven't said—who's the one with no manners?"
That sharp question sent a shiver down Florence's spine. But when she thought about how Bella had been wronged, and with both Christopher and Edmond present, she mustered up the courage to complain. "Uncle, I know Cousin is your daughter, but this is the Godard family.
"Now that she's back, she needs to follow our family's rules. If she's already stealing things the moment she arrives, what will she do in the future?"
"Grandpa." Serena looked up at Tyson, eyes full of grievance. "I didn't steal it. Great-Grandma gave me that gold jewelry."
"She was MY Great-Grandma, not yours!" Bella shouted at Serena, tears streaming down her face.
Tyson's expression darkened as he turned to Edmond and warned, "Keep your granddaughter in check. Is this how she behaves, shouting like that?"
With that, Tyson completely ignored Edmond's family and walked straight over to Paisley, scooping Serena up in his arms.
"Grandpa, is this castle and the rocking horse mine?" Serena blinked up at Tyson with big, watery eyes.
Max had told her it was hers. But at the same time, it didn't seem like Bella was lying either.
Tyson couldn't stand Serena looking at him like that. His heart ached for her.
"Of course, the castle is yours. No one has the right to take it from you," he said firmly.
Florence's expression turned awkward, and an uncomfortable feeling settled in her chest. She knew full well that Tyson had built this castle for Serena. But since Serena had never come, Bella had been playing with it daily, and no one had ever said anything.
Besides, this was the Godard estate. Paisley and Serena were just staying temporarily. In the end, this castle would still belong to Bella.
Florence never thought there was anything wrong with that logic. But now, Tyson had outright said that Bella had no claim to it.
"No! It's not yours! It's mine! It's all mine!" Bella shrieked the moment she heard the castle didn't belong to her.
Tyson shot Edmond a sharp glare. "Is this how you've raised your granddaughter?"
Normally, Bella was the only child in the house, so Tyson had been somewhat indulgent toward her. He had never taken out his grievances against Edmond on an innocent child.
When the castle was first built, Serena hadn't arrived yet, and Bella had taken a liking to it, playing here often.
Tyson was always busy managing affairs and hadn't paid much attention. Besides, it wasn't like he'd be petty over something with a child. Ideally, he would've liked Bella and Serena to get along. But now, Bella had bullied his precious Rena. And that was unacceptable.
After being scolded by Tyson multiple times in front of everyone, Edmond felt unhappy. He snapped at Christopher and Florence, "Why are you just standing there? Get Bella to shut up!"
Christopher immediately picked Bella up and instinctively covered her mouth.
Florence's heart ached for Bella. "But Cousin's daughter stole Bella's gold jewelry and even broke it. That was a gift from Anna!"
The gold jewelry wasn't particularly expensive, but it was a symbol of status. Only grandchildren of the Godard family were qualified to own one.
Bella cherished it a lot and often took it out to wear. Maybe she had misplaced it somewhere. Everyone in the house knew it was Bella's, so if anyone had found it, they would've returned it.
That was why Florence had never doubted that it belonged to Bella.
Just then, the maid who usually looked after Bella came running over, holding a perfectly intact gold jewelry. "Madam, Miss Bella's gold jewelry is right here."
Florence's face went pale. She turned to look at the maid—only to see Max walking in right behind her. It was obvious that Max had called the maid over.
Max's face was expressionless, but his deep eyes carried an unmistakable anger.
Florence finally realized—it was her daughter, Bella, who had falsely accused Serena and broken someone else's locket.
