Edmond caught Tyson's glare and understood exactly what it meant. He hadn't expected something like this to happen before they arrived.
But there was no way to deny it—he knew this was exactly the kind of thing Bella would do. Plus, there were security cameras and staff around. Paisley wouldn't lie.
"Luckily, Rena's fine." Paisley reassured Tyson.
The truth was, Paisley had been the one who was scared the most. Serena had remained calm the whole time, feeling just a little upset.
When Serena fell, she had landed on her butt. She was bundled up in thick clothes, so she wasn't hurt at all.
But Paisley knew this was pure luck. If things had gone differently—if Serena had landed face-first like Florence had, or hit the ground with a joint instead—the consequences could have been disastrous.
So there was no way Paisley was going to just let the second branch off the hook just because Serena was unharmed.
On the contrary, the second branch should be grateful Serena was fine. Otherwise, Florence's little fall would have been the least of their problems.
Now that Edmond had heard the full story, no matter how bitter or angry he felt, he couldn't say anything against Paisley. Instead, he turned to Florence with a glare. "Is this how you watch your kid?"
Florence had finally started to calm down, her hiccups stopping, though she still sniffled occasionally.
"I didn't see it happen. By the time I got there, Bella was already crying," she said truthfully.
She hadn't seen Bella pull Rena off the horse. By the time she got there, all she saw was Bella crying, while Rena was completely fine in Paisley's arms.
That was why she believed Bella's words, thinking that Rena had stolen the gold jewelry and even broken it. In the heat of the moment, she ended up saying those harsh words.
"Enough! You can't even keep an eye on a child. What's the point of having you around?" Edmond lashed out at Florence, venting all his anger on her.
Florence felt resentful. He thought, 'Is marrying me just so I can take care of the children?' But right now, she couldn't say that out loud.
Edmond took a deep breath, quickly shedding his previous outburst and regaining his usual refined demeanor. He gave Tyson a slight nod and said, "Tyson, today's incident was our fault. Here, on behalf of Bella and Florence, I apologize to Paisy and Rena.
"When we get back, I'll make sure Bella understands her mistake and teaches her to get along peacefully with Rena."
Since their side needed to show some stance, it was ultimately Edmond who stepped forward to apologize.
Paisley remembered what Anna had said before. Until they figured out who was behind the poisoning, it wasn't the time to completely fall out with them. Besides, she had already given Florence a lesson, making her suffer enough to avenge Serena.
After all, she was an adult. There was no way she could actually lay hands on Bella.
As for the others, Paisley didn't care. She especially didn't care about how their side would twist the story later. In their eyes, she was already seen as someone unreasonable and greedy. She didn't mind reinforcing that image even further.
Tyson looked at Edmond and warned coldly, "Remember this—Paisy is my only daughter. Disrespecting her is the same as disrespecting me."
Though it seemed like he was speaking to Edmond, Tyson was really using this opportunity to put the entire Godard family in check. It was also a way to further solidify Paisley's position in the Godard family.
With that, Tyson carried Serena and walked away first, with Paisley and Max following closely behind. He didn't spare the remaining people even a glance.
Edmond lowered his head, staring at the ground. No one could see his expression.
Zim, who had been silently observing the whole time, finally spoke up in surprise. "Wait, what did Tyson mean by that? Is he saying that from now on, seeing Paisley is the same as seeing him? Does that mean she might actually be the future heir?"
