Zim's aunt Mary Sunderland lived in a high-end neighborhood of Montera.
Keeley sat at the dining chair in the living room, dialing her friends' numbers over and over.
Normally, whenever she called, the phone would be answered in less than three seconds. If it took longer than three seconds, the other person would apologize first.
But now, she had been rejected by three friends in a row. Keeley was unwilling to accept this and dialed her fourth friend, only to be rejected again.
"These people have gotten bolder! They dare to hang up on my calls!" Keeley was furious and dialed the fifth person. This time, the call did go through, but it didn't connect within three seconds.
Instead, she had to wait thirty seconds before it finally connected. "What do you want?"
The voice on the other end was impatient, even tinged with disgust, which made Keeley even angrier. "What do you mean, 'what do you want'? How dare you talk to me like that?"
It wasn't bad enough that they didn't apologize for taking so long to pick up; now they had the nerve to question her impatiently.
The other person didn't take her threats seriously, chuckling lightly, "I'm already doing you a favor by answering your call. Hurry up and say what you want."
"You!" Keeley was so angry her face turned red, but she still hadn't realized the severity of the situation. "Find me a place to stay. I'll come over for a few days."
"Are you joking with me?" The disdain in the other person's tone was obvious. "Let me warn you, stay away from me! The farther, the better! If you come near me again, don't blame me for being rude!"
With that, the person hung up. By the time Keeley angrily dialed back, the person had already blocked her.
"What's going on? How dare they block me!" Keeley slammed her hand on the solid wood dining table, the sound echoing.
'Fine! These people have gotten so bold! They dared to ignore me!' she thought.
Keeley wasn't ready to give up and dialed the next number. After a few rings, it was finally answered.
"Keeley?" The voice on the other end was unchanged, just like before.
When Keeley heard the familiar tone, her mood lightened a little. "It's me."
"What's up?" the person said.
Keeley repeated her request, hoping the other person would arrange a place for her to stay for a few days.
"Sorry, Keeley, I can't help you." The person's attitude hadn't changed, but they firmly refused.
"Why?" Keeley's voice rose several octaves. "You have so many properties. Just find one and let me stay for a few days, it's not that hard!"
The person was silent for a moment, then took a deep breath and finally explained, "Keeley, our family has received a warning from the Godard family. They said if anyone helps you, they're making trouble for themselves."
"What do you mean?" Keeley didn't quite understand at first.
"It means, if I help you, I'll be going against the Godard family. My parents have already warned me not to help you, and I can't have any more dealings with you in the future," the person explained.
'Helping me means going against the Godard family? Against which member of the family exactly? My sister-in-law is Josie Godard! How dare you do this to me?' Keeley thought.
Keeley began to get irritated, her eyes turning cold. It was all Paisley's fault.
"Paisley!" Keeley almost gritted her teeth as she said the name. She understood it all now. Everything made sense. No wonder no one was answering her calls. This was why.
In the past, everyone had swarmed around her like flies. They flattered her, showered her with compliments. But now, as soon as she was in trouble, they turned their backs on her without hesitation.
"Keeley, are you okay?" The other person asked with concern.
Hearing concern from a friend at this time made Keeley feel a little touched. "Lila, I know you're in a tough spot. Just help me out secretly, arrange a little villa for me, get a few servants. Don't worry, it won't be long. Very soon—"
She wanted to say, soon Josie would find a way to get her back into the Godard family.
But before she could finish, Lila interrupted, "Sorry, Keeley. Whether it's me or my family, we can't afford to offend the Godard family, and we certainly can't offend that young lady who just took charge. I really can't help you."
"Lila, I—" Keeley wanted to argue.
"And," Lila interrupted again, "I'm actually pretty annoyed with you, so I wasn't planning to help you at all."
"Huh?" Keeley froze for a moment, unsure of what she'd just heard. "What did you say? You're annoyed with me?"
"Yes! I'm so tired of you! Not just me, everyone in the circle is annoyed with you!" Lila seemed to have found the chance to explode, her tone changing in an instant.
"You're barely related to the Godard family. You used your distant connection to boss everyone around! Do you think you're like us? Even if we're struggling, we're still from respectable families. Who do you think you are, huh?
"We only put up with you because of Josie. Without her backing you, you're nothing! Your brother is nothing! You're trash! Get lost!"
Keeley was stunned by the sudden insults. By the time she reacted and tried to retaliate, Lila had already hung up the phone and blocked her.
The overwhelming sense of frustration made Keeley feel like she couldn't breathe. She felt like she was going to explode from anger.
I'm so pissed! Ah!" She stood up, knocked over her chair, flipped the table, and threw everything she could reach.
"Hey! Keeley, what are you doing? Are you crazy, breaking my stuff?" Her aunt Mary ran over from the living room at the noise. Seeing the mess, she was heartbroken.
"So what! I've already broken everything! Are you going to kick me out?" Keeley suddenly understood what the cold reality of the world was.
Mary didn't speak, but her murderous gaze was hard to hide. Keeley ignored Mary and walked straight to the living room. In the living room, Zim was still comforting the frightened Tommy.
Keeley didn't care. She walked up to her brother and complained, "I don't want to stay here. Arrange a hotel for me, I want the presidential suite."
This was the bare minimum she could accept. Tommy, already startled by the noise Keeley made, began crying again.
Meanwhile, Keeley kept pestering Zim. "Didn't you hear me?"
"Shut up!" Zim was already irritated, his temper flaring. He turned and slapped Keeley across the face.
Keeley was stunned. This was the first time she had ever been slapped in her life. "So you hit me?"
Zim's eyes were bloodshot. "Shouldn't I? Why did you take Tommy to the Godard family? Without my permission, without me there, how dare you take him there on your own!"
Zim had no idea what Keeley was planning. He'd been too busy with company affairs to pay attention to her. Josie didn't like Tommy, so she wouldn't have mentioned anything about him to Zim.
Keeley hadn't seen taking Tommy to the Godard family as a big deal. At the time, she was just focused on pleasing Dominick and hadn't thought about anything else.
Until today, Zim had been diligently handling the last matters at the company before the holiday, doing his final shift.
It wasn't until he returned to the Godard family mansion before the family reunion banquet that he found out Keeley had taken the liberty to bring Tommy over. The goal was to try to please Grayson.
Zim instinctively felt that something was wrong. He knew Tommy's personality; he couldn't possibly be trying to please anyone. Sure enough, before long, the thing he least wanted to happen occurred.
Keeley was crying in grievance. 'How was I supposed to know things would turn out like this? I wasn't thinking too much back then. And now, I've been kicked out of the Godard family, I'm in such a pitiful state, and you still hit me!"
