Leo, worried that Dominick might do something rash because of his anger, stepped forward to stop him. "Mr. Vanderbilt, please calm down."
"Get out of my way!" Dominick glared coldly, angrily pushing Leo away. He knew that as long as these people were around, there was no way he could win Paisley back.
"I want to see my child." Dominick suppressed the fury building inside him, forcing himself to calm down.
This was the Godard family, and his previous actions had already angered Paisley. Although he was reluctant, right now, he just wanted to mend things with Paisley. The only connection he had left with Paisley was their child.
"Huh? I need to ask first." Leo didn't immediately agree.
"What? Now I have to get Max's permission to see my own child?" Dominick's cold gaze pierced Leo, and the anger he had been trying to suppress flared up again.
The pressure from the higher-ups was overwhelming, and even Leo had trouble handling it. To avoid any misunderstandings, Leo quickly explained, "It's not Max, it's Paisley."
Leo worked under Max, but he wasn't a fool without any sense of boundaries.
"Quick, ask!" Even so, Dominick's anger was still burning.
This anger wasn't about Leo asking Paisley for permission; it was because Leo, who was supposed to be Max's man, was working for both Max and Paisley at the same time.
This meant that Max had already begun sharing resources with Paisley, and Max had no objections. This made the relationship between these nominal siblings even closer.
Soon, Leo got a reply from Paisley. "She has agreed. Mr. Vanderbilt, please follow me." After saying that, Leo led Dominick in the opposite direction of where Paisley was in the main building.
Dominick stopped. "Why are we going this way?" He wondered why the kids weren't staying with their mom.
Leo seemed to sense Dominick's thoughts, a sly glint flashing in his eyes, but his voice remained formal and professional. "Mr. Vanderbilt, you want to meet the children, don't you? They are this way."
Leo pointed in a direction and repeated. "Please follow me."
Dominick had no choice but to clench his teeth, keeping a cold expression as he followed Leo. Eventually, he followed Leo to a pink castle located in the Godard family estate.
"The children are inside here." Leo led Dominick to the castle door. Just as he was about to knock, the voices of the two children could be heard from inside.
"Rena, why didn't you say anything when you saw Daddy?" Grayson's voice was heard.
"Wait," Dominick said quietly, stopping Leo from knocking. Leo immediately understood what Dominick wanted to do, nodded, and stepped aside.
Since Paisley had agreed for Mr. Vanderbilt to meet the children, and hadn't given any special instructions, he didn't need to do anything else. He just needed to quietly stand there.
Dominick took a step toward the window, standing against the wall. With a slight turn of his head, he could see the two little ones sitting at the small wooden table by the window, eating fruit and snacks.
He had also wanted to know the answer to Grayson's question. He wanted to know why Rena's attitude toward him changed so much. Though she hadn't been overly affectionate before, she had still been polite and willing to talk to him.
Even if she had just called him scary, it would have been fine. But just now, he had clearly noticed Rena's rejection of him—she wouldn't even look at him. Dominick didn't know what had caused the change. He was eager to know the answer.
Inside the castle's small tea room, Linna was napping by the fireplace, listening to the chatter of the two children. Suddenly, she sensed someone approaching. Her sharp eyes snapped open, and she glanced out the window.
Upon seeing the figure outside, she relaxed and closed her eyes again, thinking, 'Oh, it's that asshole who bullied Paisley.'
Meanwhile, the two little ones, sitting at the small wooden table, were unaware of what was going on, still talking. Hearing Grayson's question, Serena lowered her head and absentmindedly picked up a small piece of cake, nibbling at it.
"What's wrong, Rena? Why aren't you talking?" Grayson tilted his head, thinking it might be his fault that Serena was upset. "Do you not want to talk about Daddy?"
Serena nodded. "That's your daddy, not mine."
"No, Rena, that's both of our daddy. We both have the same daddy." Grayson clarified, thinking Serena didn't understand yet. He emphasized again. "My daddy is your daddy, Rena, your real dad."
Outside, Dominick's mind was in turmoil. So, Rena already knew his identity. That's why her attitude had shifted so drastically—because she knew he was her father.
Inside the tea room, Serena fell silent again. Grayson stretched his neck, trying to see Serena's expression more clearly. But all he could see were her long eyelashes fluttering, and nothing else.
"Rena, do you not like our daddy?" Grayson could only think of one reason.
Grayson's question made Dominick's heart race. His heart pounded wildly, feeling like he was waiting for the executioner's blade to fall.
"Hmm." Serena's voice came, soft but clear.
In that moment, the blade of the executioner finally came down. Dominick felt like his whole world shattered in an instant.
"Why, Rena? Our daddy is really great!" Grayson didn't understand. His daddy was a good daddy, even though he could be strict sometimes, he was still a good daddy.
"He's not good at all!" Serena's mood shifted, and she suddenly raised her head, expressing her strong displeasure. "He's bad, really bad! He's always yelling at mommy, fighting with her, and helping bad people bully mommy! So, he's a bad person! Bad people can't be my daddy!"
Linna leaned against the fireplace, pretending to nap, but she was still listening to the kids' conversation. Kids were usually straightforward. They saw things as they were and said exactly what was on their minds.
She thought, 'How terrible must you have looked in front of Rena for her to think you're a bad person!'
After Serena finished speaking, she suddenly realized and glared at Grayson with red eyes. "And you! You also bullied Mom with the bad guys!"
These words really scared Grayson. He was afraid that the relationship he had just started building with Serena might fall apart, so he hurriedly apologized, "Sorry, Rena, I know I was wrong. I've apologized already. I won't do it again."
Grayson knew that when Serena referred to "the bad guys," she was talking about Marissa, but at the time, he didn't know Marissa was a bad person. He only knew she treated him really well. He had lost his mom, so he subconsciously thought of Marissa as his mom.
Serena pouted, then stopped talking. Grayson was getting really anxious. "Rena, talk to me, don't ignore me. I promise I won't bully you or Mom anymore. I'll get stronger and protect you and Mom in the future! I promise!"
Serena shook her head. "Mom doesn't need protecting. She has Linna, Jake, and lots of other good people around her. And there's Max too!"
When Serena mentioned her Max, her tone became much more cheerful, and her eyes even lit up.
