Even though it was Christmas Day, the Montera tourist attractions were still open, and Serena finally saw the palace she'd dreamed of for so long. She was now getting ready to take ancient-style photos with Grayson.
The two kids, dressed in traditional clothes, stood in front of the camera, instantly attracting a crowd of tourists.
"Look! These two kids are so cute!"
"Yeah, yeah, are they brother and sister?"
"Oh my, oh my, I just want to have kids like that! Who wouldn't want such cute kids?"
Paisley stood off to the side, listening to the tourists' compliments about her children. At that moment, as a mother, her pride and sense of accomplishment swelled.
Max was looking at her with a smile that barely touched his lips. He couldn't help but chuckle.
Just then, a young tourist girl said, "Look over there, are those the parents of those two kids? They make such a good match!"
The comment immediately shifted some of the tourists' attention to Paisley and Max.
A handsome man and a beautiful woman standing equally matched, the woman's gaze soft and proud as she looked at the kids taking photos, while the man's eyes never left the woman. The man's eyes could hold no one but the woman in front of him.
"Oh my God, no wonder those kids look so amazing, they must be the children of a couple with godly looks!"
At that moment, Grayson ran over and stopped in front of Paisley, "Mom, do you and Uncle Max want to come take pictures with Rena and me?"
The little guy stressed the word "uncle" so much that the tourists overheard it clearly that they were brother and sister instead of a couple.
Max lowered his eyes, looking at Grayson, who had suddenly stopped taking photos and run over. He couldn't help but smile. This little one was definitely Dominick's son.
Max chose not to comment, but instead asked Paisley, "So, do you want to take photos with the two kids?"
It was a perfect opportunity, and he was curious to see how Paisley would look in ancient clothes—he was sure she'd look great.
"Maybe not." Paisley glanced at the tourists watching them, her expression slightly awkward.
"Mom. Rena and I want to take pictures with you, don't we, Rena?" Grayson turned to look at Serena.
Hearing this, Serena immediately nodded and ran over, throwing herself into Paisley's arms. "Yeah, Mom, Grayson's right. Let's take a picture together! I want to take one with you. Oh, and!" Serena turned to look at Max. "Uncle Max too! I want to take a picture with you and Mom!"
The little girl held Paisley's hand with one hand, and Max's hand with the other. It really looked like they were a family.
Seeing the eager faces of the two children, Paisley could only reluctantly agree. "Alright then."
She turned to Max. "You're taking a picture too?"
Max wasn't against taking pictures and wasn't shy about it. But when his gaze fell on Grayson's dim expression, he shook his head.
"You guys take it. I don't like taking pictures." As soon as he said that, Max noticed Grayson's eyes brighten.
Paisley didn't think much of it. Surrounded by the two kids, she quickly picked an outfit, changed, and stood in front of the camera with them. More tourists gathered around to watch.
Max watched Paisley awkwardly cooperate with the two kids and the photographer, adjusting their angles. He couldn't help but take out his phone, focusing on Paisley's face, and pressed the shutter.
The evening began to fall, and Montera's sky darkened earlier than Harrowfell. In the restaurant on the top floor, Dominick sat alone. In front of him was a cold, untouched meal. He had no appetite, just staring absently at the thousands of lights below.
He wanted to see Paisley, wanted to hear her voice. But he didn't know if she had calmed down, if she still didn't want to see him, or if she would answer his call.
"Mr. Vanderbilt, why are you here alone?" Noah walked over, seeing Dominick lost in thought, feeling a twinge of guilt.
He regretted agreeing to help Josie with that favor for Keeley. At the time, he didn't know that the Godard family's recently recognized daughter was the ex-wife Dominick was trying to get back.
Since the recognition banquet, Noah had been uneasy. Something had definitely happened inside the Godard family, but he couldn't get any information. And Dominick didn't seem quite right either.
Noah hadn't had a good Christmas, fearing his family would face retaliation from both the Godard and Vanderbilt families.
"Mr. Vanderbilt. I'm truly sorry. I didn't know the purpose of your visit to Montera. I didn't know you and the Godard family's elder daughter were.
"This was all just a coincidence. Miss Godard asked me to invite you, and you agreed to attend the recognition banquet. I-I didn't mean for it to go this way," Noah stammered, unable to finish his sentence.
Although things had indeed happened by chance, Noah's heart wasn't as clear as he made it seem. He had mixed personal motives in agreeing to both sides. So, he couldn't just clear himself of all blame. He could only sincerely apologize.
Now, seeing Dominick sitting alone in the hotel's restaurant on the first day of Christmas, Noah felt even worse. As a man himself, Noah felt even more uncomfortable.
After all, he was the wealthiest man in Harrowfell, the head of the Vanderbilt family. If it weren't for truly wanting to pursue his ex-wife, he wouldn't have traveled so far, alone with a child, during what should be a family celebration.
He was clearly here with great sincerity, wanting to reconcile. And in the end, he ended up helping Keeley and ruining Mr. Vanderbilt's chance to win his wife back. Noah deeply regretted it.
"Mr. Vanderbilt." Seeing Dominick, Noah fell silent for a moment.
"It has nothing to do with you. Don't blame yourself," Dominick finally spoke, finishing his drink.
Hearing Dominick's words, Noah finally felt relieved after two days of worrying.
"Then, Mr. Vanderbilt, how about spending Christmas at my house? It must be lonely here in the hotel." After receiving Dominick's forgiveness, Noah took the opportunity to invite him.
This time, Dominick shot him a cold look, making Noah quickly shut his mouth.
"No need," Dominick responded softly, then poured himself another glass of wine.
Realizing he had overstepped, Noah sat there awkwardly, unsure whether to stay or leave.
As he was feeling uncomfortable, the sound of children's laughter came from the restaurant door.
'On Christmas Day, who else would be here eating at this hour? Could they be tourists staying at the hotel?' Noah thought. Curious, he looked over, and was frozen in place.
The ones walking in were none other than Paisley and Max, with Serena and Grayson in tow.
At this moment, Max was carrying Serena on one side, while Grayson obediently walked beside Paisley on the other. It was obvious that these two adults and two kids looked like they had been out playing for the whole day.
Looking at them, they really seemed like a happy family. In stark contrast to Dominick, sitting alone, isolated.
"Oh—" Noah felt his scalp tingle and couldn't bring himself to speak.
