The Godard family's ancestral tombs are located on Mt. Sapphire, just outside of Montera. On the fifth day of Christmas, there was almost no one on the road to Mt. Sapphire.
After leaving the Godard family home, Paisley and Max's car slowly made its way down the road. Just as the car was about to reach the foot of Mt. Sapphire, a loud explosion rang out.
The car was instantly engulfed in flames, crackling and popping loudly. When Dominick arrived at the scene, this was the sight he saw. It was too late. Everything was too late.
"Paisley." He stared at the scene in front of him, the flames lighting up his face. At this moment, only one thought filled his mind. Paisley was still inside.
He didn't know how he stopped the car, or how he opened the door and got out. His body and mind seemed to lose control in that moment. He couldn't breathe, couldn't walk, couldn't think.
Stumbling towards the burning car, he fell several times, unable to keep his balance. In the end, he nearly crawled and ran to the car. The intense heat from the flames scorched his body, and the smoke stung his eyes.
"Paisley. Paisley, answer me. Paisley! I'm coming to find you, I'll be right there!" Without thinking, he stood up and ran straight toward the car.
The fire burned his hand, but he didn't seem to feel the pain, still reaching out toward the burnt car door handle. Just as Dominick was about to touch the car engulfed in flames, a strong force from behind grabbed him. He realized there were suddenly many people around him.
"Let go of me! Let go of me!" Dominick's eyes were bloodshot as he struggled violently.
"You're crazy! You'll burn yourself!" Jake dragged Dominick, struggling to control him.
Dominick didn't recognize Jake, but no one could stop him now.
"Let go!" He shouted and punched Jake in the head.
Jake was holding Dominick firmly. He had no time to defend himself. He took the punch full on. The punch made Jake dizzy, and he staggered.
Dominick seized the opportunity to break free. He wasn't interested in fighting. Right now, he had only one obsession: finding Paisley. So he threw himself once more toward the car, now reduced to just a skeleton of a vehicle.
"Damn! You crazy!" Jake cursed, spitting the blood from his mouth. He chased after Dominick again.
This time, Jake grabbed Dominick with both hands. He learned his lesson and shouted, "What are you standing there for? Come help us control this suicidal maniac!"
As he spoke, several big, muscular men rushed over from different directions, grabbing Dominick. Together, they dragged him away from the fire.
"Let go of me! I'm warning you, let me go!" Dominick screamed, but he could only watch as he was pulled farther from the burning car. "Paisley! Paisley! Wait for me!"
"Dominick!" Suddenly, a familiar voice sounded from behind him.
His struggling body froze for a moment, and he quickly turned around. Paisley was standing under a tree not far away, tilting her head and looking at him.
"Paisley." His pupils contracted and widened, repeatedly confirming if the person in front of him was real.
Paisley looked at Dominick, confused. "How did you know I was here? Didn't I tell you to look after the kids? What are you doing here?"
There was a hint of reproach in her voice. But the next moment, Dominick, out of breath, tightly hugged Paisley. It was so tight that Paisley almost couldn't breathe.
Only when he felt her warm body and the breath on his neck did Dominick's heart begin to beat again. He didn't speak, just held Paisley tightly. After a while, Paisley felt something wet on her neck. He was crying again.
"Dominick?" Paisley called out, but didn't get a response from him.
When she realized that the man holding her was shaking uncontrollably, she knew something was wrong. Slowly, the silent tears turned into sobs. He really was crying.
Paisley blinked, her hand slowly lifting. After hesitating a few times, she gently patted Dominick's back.
"You didn't think I died, did you?" Paisley asked.
If it weren't for Jake noticing something wrong and rushing over, she wouldn't have even seen Dominick. When she did, Dominick had already been firmly held by Jake and his men. This was the first time she had seen Jake unable to handle a situation.
At this point, Jake was swinging his wrist with one hand while rubbing his head, grumbling as he walked over. "That punch really messed me up, it loosened my teeth. Good grief, with so many people, I almost couldn't stop him.
"That guy kept charging into that fire. Seriously, he wanted to die!"
Paisley paused for a moment, then slapped harder on Dominick's hand. "Hey, Dominick, you weren't really trying to kill yourself, were you?"
Realizing this, Paisley suddenly felt a wave of fear. If Jake hadn't noticed in time, Dominick could've been burned alive or severely injured.
"Yeah." The man rested his head on Paisley's shoulder, his voice muffled, carrying a hint of tears.
"You're crazy!" Paisley slapped him again, this time with more force.
If Dominick had died, the Vanderbilt family and the Vanderbilt Group would be ruined. It would also affect the two children. Rena may not have a deep attachment to Dominick as a father, but Sonny certainly did.
Paisley couldn't even bear to imagine how many repercussions would have followed if Dominick had died.
Just as these tumultuous thoughts swirled in Paisley's mind, Dominick spoke again, "I don't want you and Max to die together, so I want to follow you. Wherever you go, I go."
"You—" Paisley was left speechless, unable to find the right words to respond.
Max and Leo emerged from the shadows, just in time to hear Dominick's words. Seeing Dominick holding Paisley so tightly, Max's expression darkened slightly.
After asking Jake's subordinates, he learned that Dominick had mistakenly thought Paisley was dead, and was moments away from throwing himself into the fire to die alongside her.
Turning to look at Jake and the others who had tried to stop Dominick, he could see how exhausted they all were.
It was clear how strong Dominick's determination to die had been. Max stood there, stunned by what he had just heard.
At this moment, he had to admit that Dominick's love for Paisley was intense and pure.
If it had been him in that situation, he wasn't sure if he would do the same. After a few moments of deep thought, Max realized he wouldn't. He didn't think he could have done it.
It wasn't that he didn't love Paisley enough, it was just that he couldn't bring himself to act so recklessly, ignoring family, parents, children, and responsibilities. To him, this didn't seem like something someone with great responsibilities should do. It was immature, irrational.
