Moon Haven was the name of Anna's home. There was a pond in the yard, and on every full moon, the moon would reflect on the water. It felt like you could just reach out and grab the moon, which is why the house was named Moon Haven.
The letters of Moon Haven on the plaque at the door were written by the late Mr. Godard himself when he was still alive.
The full moon represented reunion. In the past, on every reunion day, all the members of the Godard family would gather at Anna's Moon Haven for a joyful family reunion. But over time, that joyful vibe had gradually turned sour.
At this moment, Anna looked at Edmond, lost in thought, her face filled with sorrow. Everything she had done in her life was for this family. But in the end, this family had fallen apart.
"Edmond, what are you trying to do? What are you doing?" Anna cried in pain, still slumped on the ground. Beside her, only a frightened short attendant was left; no one else came to help her.
Cole wanted to help but he was almost the same age as Anna. What's worse, two large men were blocking his path, and if he took one step forward, he'd be beaten up. His face was already bruised, and his eyes were swollen, leaving only a small slit.
Tyson was in slightly better condition. At least he hadn't been beaten up; he was just confined to the sofa. He, too, was surrounded by two strong men, their expressions terrifying and full of warnings, clearly not good people.
The entire Moon Haven had been surrounded by Edmond's men. The servants were in chaos. They were just workers doing their jobs and didn't want to end up dead.
Edmond looked at everything before him with satisfaction, strolling forward and sitting in the seat at the head of the sofa, looking down at Tyson, while Anna's sorrowful questions echoed in the background.
"What do I want to do?" Edmond leaned back elegantly. "You know exactly what I want, don't you? Without your help, I wouldn't have gotten this far. Let me think—"
Edmond crossed his legs, smiling as he continued, "If it weren't for your protection, I probably would have been finished in Brightmoor a long time ago."
Anna's body suddenly trembled, and everyone in the room knew exactly what it meant. It was when Tyson was poisoned in Brightmoor, his life hanging by a thread. Edmond, however, had received the news early and was well-prepared. He intended for Tyson to die in Brightmoor.
"But, back then, weren't you worried about Tyson's health, which is why you went over? You went there, saw that Tyson couldn't make it, and then, worried that the Godard family would fall into the hands of that outsider, Max, you started thinking of other plans," she said.
At least, that's what Edmond had told her back then. Edmond had spoken so sincerely at the time. Both of them being her sons, and she, as a mother, was torn between them.
If Tyson had really not made it, she thought she would have done whatever it took to ensure Edmond inherited the family business, not Max. That's why she had easily been swayed by Edmond's words. As a mother, she didn't want to see her two sons fighting each other.
As the matriarch of the Godard family, she didn't want such a scandal of family infighting to spread. So, she had always believed her actions were right, with no issues.
"Old lady, I don't mind telling you. Actually, from the very beginning, I was determined that Tyson must die. I never intended for him to leave Brightmoor alive. If the poison didn't do the job, I would have found another way to kill him and Max!" said Edmond.
"You-you—" Anna couldn't believe she had been manipulated by Edmond again. The first time, he nearly killed her eldest son, and now he had directly caused the death of her granddaughter.
Anna felt blood rising in her throat, a rusty taste filling her mouth, and in the end, she could only shout with grief, "You beast!"
Edmond didn't care at all about Anna's curses. He was completely immersed in the joy of soon occupying the highest position.
"But I'm really curious, who was it that gave my dear brother Tyson the lethal poison, almost killing him?" he said.
It was really close, and to this day, Edmond still hadn't figured out how Tyson managed to survive.
He had pushed Tyson to the brink of death, and even Max was out of ideas. The only variable was Paisley, but he couldn't figure out how she managed to save him.
Edmond couldn't figure it out, so he didn't want to dwell on it. Anyway, now that he had gotten rid of that last variable, he was satisfied.
He looked coldly at Tyson, his gaze full of mockery. "Tyson, your luck has run out. Today, there won't be a daughter to save you," Edmond laughed wickedly, hoping to see Tyson break down from his taunts.
But he was ultimately disappointed. Tyson just sat there quietly, staring at Edmond as he raved, exuding the pressure of someone in power.
It was the aura of someone who had the power to crush but didn't care at all. "Edmond, you're still too impulsive."
"Shut up! Tyson, stop acting all high and mighty!" Edmond shouted.
With a light remark, Tyson caused Edmond to spiral into a frenzy. Despite the shift in positions, with Tyson now the weak one, Edmond was still trying to assert dominance. Since he was the weaker one now, he should act like it.
"Tyson!" Edmond marched over, shoving the document into Tyson's face. "Sign it quickly! Or don't blame me for being rude!"
Tyson chuckled, his deep eyes locking onto Edmond's, full of calm and composure Edmond had never had. "Look at you. If you had any ability, Father wouldn't have gone through so much trouble bringing me back."
That one sentence hit Edmond right where it hurt. "Shut up! Tyson, shut up!"
Yes, back then, Tyson had given up his inheritance rights, left Montera, and had a family, living under a new identity. Late Mr. Godard had more than one son. If he wanted to, he could have trained another son to be his heir.
But instead of doing that, he had gone to great lengths to bring Tyson back. He had even harmed Tyson's body and brain, forcing him to forget about Harrowfell and his wife and daughter there. After all that effort, he never thought about making Edmond the heir.
The only logical explanation was Edmond didn't have the ability to be the heir.
Seeing Edmond stuck in his own obsession, Christopher, who had been waiting impatiently, finally spoke up, "Dad, stop listening to his nonsense. Just sign the document. That's what's most important."
They had already come this far—there was no point in getting hung up on the past. Once Tyson signed the document, at the shareholders' meeting after Christmas, the second branch would become the rightful rulers of the Godard family.
Christopher, who had always hidden behind Edmond, was now stepping into the spotlight. He looked coldly at Tyson, knowing he wouldn't sign easily, so he'd need to make him suffer a bit first.
Turning to Florence and Bella, he said, "You two should go back for now. Once we're done here, you can come back."
If they were going to make Tyson suffer, the scene wasn't going to be pretty. Florence was fine with it, but Bella was still young and shouldn't see this.
Florence carried Bella out, and Bella looked somewhat confused at Anna on the ground. "Mom, aren't we going to help Great-Grandma?"
Florence just shot a glance at Anna. "Why bother with that old thing? It'd be better if she were dead!"
"Yeah, dead would be better! Dead would be better!" Bella found her mom's words funny and repeated them over and over again.
Anna heard every word of their conversation, watching helplessly as they walked away. Her heart was shattered, and with a trembling hand, she could no longer say a word.
