"Jolin! What are you doing here? You should be—" Zim looked at Jolin, shocked, and waves of turmoil surged in his heart.
Jolin coldly looked at Zim. "Did you mean to say, shouldn't I be out running around Montera, handling those major cases?"
Zim's face turned ugly, as she hit the nail on the head. He had already planned everything. According to his plans and arrangements, Jolin and the officers under her command were supposed to be too busy to be home at this time.
Jolin looked at the man she once respected as her uncle, her eyes devoid of warmth. "You think that by creating some commotion with a few fugitives, you can cause confusion for us? You're overestimating them and underestimating us! Of course—"
She paused and glanced toward the door, continuing, "The most crucial part is thanks to Paisley's reminder!"
If it weren't for Paisley's advance warning, they would still be scrambling around.
"Paisley?" Zim's pupils trembled violently. Just then, Paisley walked in quickly with Max and Leo beside her.
"Impossible. She should have been blown up. How could she still be alive." Zim couldn't accept that Paisley was still alive.
Edmond and Christopher stared at Paisley and Max, as if seeing a ghost.
"Dad! Dad! Paisley and Max are still alive! They're alive!" Christopher trembled as he hid behind Edmond, clutching Edmond's clothes.
It was only when he saw Paisley that Edmond realized he had completely lost this time.
Tyson stepped forward to meet Paisley. "Paisy."
"Dad." Paisley immediately noticed the slap mark on Tyson's cheek.
It was the mark from when Christopher had slapped him not long ago. She shot a cold glance at Christopher, causing him to retreat in fear, his face turning pale.
"I'm fine; let's check on Josie first," Tyson said, his main concern being Josie.
Paisley withdrew her gaze and hurried over to Josie's side. As soon as she saw Josie, Paisley furrowed her brows. Josie's eyes were rolled back, her body convulsing, and she was struggling to breathe. The situation was indeed critical.
"Josie! Josie!" Anna called out anxiously, her eyes fixed solely on Josie, with no concern for anyone else.
"Pull the old lady aside," Paisley coldly ordered Leo.
At the sound of Paisley's voice, Anna froze. "Paisy, you're still alive." She looked at Paisley with tear-filled eyes.
Paisley ignored her, not even sparing her a glance, and coldly instructed Leo, "Untie the ropes on her."
Leo quickly had a few of his men untie the ropes around Josie's body. Paisley first checked Josie's pupils, then took her pulse while observing her breathing and facial features. Her expression grew increasingly serious.
"Paisy, how is Josie?" asked Tyson.
"Not good," Paisley frowned, taking out a pill bottle from her bag. She placed one of the pills into Josie's mouth, then turned to Max. "Hold her mouth, don't let her spit it out."
Max complied, tightly gripping Josie's mouth.
"Get a few more people to hold her down," said Paisley.
Leo immediately called for a few more men to restrain Josie, whose body was still convulsing.
Paisley held her breath and focused, taking out a long silver needle. She immediately inserted it into one of the most painful acupuncture points on Josie's body.
The several men watching the long needle being thrust into Josie's body couldn't help but shiver. Anna was pulled aside, her eyes wide in disbelief as she watched this scene unfold.
"Paisy! What are you doing to your aunt? I know the Godard family wronged you. If you want to blame someone, blame me. It was I who tricked you into leaving! But your aunt is innocent! If anyone deserves the needle, it's me!" she shouted.
Even Cole, seeing the long needle being pierced into Josie's body, was scared out of his wits.
But Cole knew that Paisley wasn't someone who couldn't tell right from wrong. He trusted her character. So even though he was shocked, he didn't believe Paisley was trying to hurt Josie.
Paisley quickly scanned Anna but didn't respond. She needed to focus now.
Finally, after piercing three painful acupuncture points on Josie's body, her consciousness began to return. The convulsions in her body started to subside. Josie's eyes, which had been unfocused, slowly cleared up. The first person she saw was Paisley.
Tears immediately flowed from her bloodshot eyes, and with great effort, she whispered, "Paisy. Am I dead? Are you here to take me? Paisy. I'm sorry. It's all because of me. I'm sorry."
She regretted trusting Zim so much, only to drag the whole family into this mess. She despised Zim, that scumbag, for deceiving her feelings and playing her like a fool.
"Not dead, still alive," Paisley said lightly. To make Josie believe she was still alive, Paisley grabbed the long needle that was lying around and stabbed it into Josie's arm. The instant the needle pierced, Josie gritted her teeth in pain.
The intense pain even made Josie tear up. "It hurts! Why does it hurt so much!" Josie cried out, sweating from the pain.
"Good, that's how it should feel," Paisley said, while putting the needle away.
"Paisy, do they still need to keep controlling her?" Max asked. When Josie had woken up, Max, following Paisley's instructions, had already removed his hand from her mouth.
"No, it's done," said Paisley.
Leo and the others quickly released Josie upon hearing this. Josie finally noticed that there were many people around her. Max, Leo, and her brother Tyson.
"Max, you're alive too, right?" Josie asked, not quite believing it, after the hellish pain she had just gone through.
Max nodded. "We're all alive."
Josie looked at Tyson in confusion. "Tyson."
Tyson gently pulled his only sister into his arms, helping her sit up. "Don't be afraid, I'm here. It's all over now."
"Tyson." Josie couldn't hold it anymore and threw herself into Tyson's arms, crying out in pain.
"Leo, have someone help Aunt rest." Paisley looked at Josie's abdomen, her expression darkening. "And call Dr. Brown to check on her properly."
Dr. Brown was the family doctor of the Godard family, and the only female doctor among the many doctors in the Godard family.
There were still important matters to attend to, and they involved Zim. Paisley wasn't sure if, by then, Josie's love-struck brain would take over again.
"No! I'm not leaving!" Josie suddenly straightened up from Tyson's embrace, her eyes filled with determination.
"Josie, your health comes first." Tyson didn't want her to stay here any longer, fearing she might get further upset.
"I know my body." Josie was resolute, her pale face still showing her determination. "I'm not leaving. I won't cause trouble, just let me stay here."
Tyson sighed, calling out to someone. "Help her over to the sofa to rest."
Anna looked at Josie with tears in her eyes, her daughter's pale face breaking her heart. "Josie."
She staggered forward, trying to reach out to touch her, but Josie coldly pulled away. Anna's hand froze in mid-air, her heart aching painfully, but before she could feel any sorrow, the real reckoning was about to begin.
