Facing Florence's tearful pleas, Jolin only looked at her with cold eyes. Her words were even more ruthless. "I'm not just taking him away—I'm taking you too. You were involved in this. You don't get to walk away unscathed."
With that, Jolin waved her hand, and someone immediately stepped forward to restrain Florence.
Florence stared at the cold silver handcuffs on her wrists, her face turning pale as she screamed repeatedly, "Jolin, what are you doing? I'm innocent! I don't know anything! You can't arrest me!"
But Jolin didn't even spare her another glance. She simply urged her subordinates to move faster, handling everything by the book.
"Mom! Ah! Mom!" Bella still hadn't recovered from the shock of being dragged to bow by Christopher. Now, seeing both Florence Christopher handcuffed, she was completely terrified.
Bella scrambled to her feet, stumbling as she ran, waving her hands wildly while chasing after Florence. She was crying her heart out.
"Bella...Bella—" Florence watched Bella's small body, sobbing so hard that she could barely breathe. She had fallen over and over again in her desperate attempt to reach Bella and now lay sprawled on the cold ground, unable to get up.
At that moment, Florence felt as if her heart were being torn apart. She cried uncontrollably, overwhelming regret flooding her from head to toe.
"Bella." She could only turn to Anna for help. "Please help!"
However, the next second, Jolin was already standing in front of Anna with her people. "Mrs. Annalina Godard, you need to come with us as well."
Annalina was Anna's formal name, but no one had called her that in years, so much so that many of the younger generation didn't even know Anna's formal name.
Anna leaned against a short caretaker, her eyes closed as she shook her head and wept, mumbling to herself in an incoherent whisper.
At Jolin's words, her eyes suddenly snapped open. "What did you just call me? Are you arresting me too?"
Anna's voice trembled, weak and frail, as if she might take her last breath at any moment.
Jolin remained strictly professional. "Everyone involved in this case must be taken in for questioning. You are no exception."
Without Anna's assistance, Edmond's plan would have never succeeded. Although Edmond had hidden some things from Anna, she was far from innocent.
"Jolin...I'm your grandmother," Anna's mouth twisted slightly as she spoke.
But Jolin remained unmoved. "Considering your age, we won't use force. Please cooperate with us. It will help your case."
The truth was, given Anna's age, even if she were convicted of harboring a criminal or being an accomplice, she would likely not face any real punishment. But the necessary legal procedures still had to be followed.
"Alright." Anna's chest rose and fell violently as the metallic taste of blood surged up her throat again. This time, she failed to hold it back and coughed up a mouthful of blood. The next moment, her eyes rolled back, and her body went limp.
"Ah! Anna!" The short caretaker, supporting Anna's now-unconscious body, panicked. "Miss Jolin, Anna has passed out!"
Jolin stared at Anna's ashen face in silence, feeling a storm of emotions within her. Logan had spent years stationed in the military, rarely home, and her mother had passed away early. Over the years, Anna had taken good care of her and Joshua.
But Jolin believed that everyone had to pay for the mistakes they made.
The caretaker anxiously turned to Paisley. "Ms. Paisley, Anna has fainted!"
Paisley glanced at Anna, and then at Tyson. She noticed that, despite his best efforts to suppress it, Tyson still couldn't hide the trace of reluctance in his eyes.
With a sigh, Paisley reached into her bag, took out the same pill she had once given Josie, and handed it to a servant beside her. "Let her hold this in her mouth and take her to the hospital."
Florence watched as Anna remained unconscious, realizing that Bella had now lost her last hope in this household.
"No. Let go of me!" Florence didn't want to be taken away. If she left, Bella would be bullied to death, or so she thought.
But no one cared about her protests. On the contrary, the more Florence struggled, the more it was seen as resisting arrest.
As a result, her restraints were tightened even further.
On the verge of hysteria, Florence saw Christopher being dragged forward by two officers. He was so frightened that his body had gone limp, hanging between them like a piece of dead meat.
Florence exploded all her despair of not being able to protect Bella onto Christopher. "Christopher! You useless piece of trash! You can't even protect your own wife and daughter, and you think you can be in charge? Paisley was right—you're nothing but a pathetic idiot!
"You don't deserve to be alive! You don't deserve to have a wife and children! You should've just crawled back into your mother's womb and stayed a brainless baby for life! Worthless animal!"
"Edmond, come with us." Jolin, after watching her men carry Anna out, turned to Edmond.
She had expected Edmond to put up a fight, just like the others. But surprisingly, Edmond didn't resist at all. He simply sat there in defeat.
When he heard Jolin's words, he trembled slightly. Then, he slowly raised his head and stared at Jolin in silence. He knew—he had lost. Completely.
He thought, 'Perhaps, from the very beginning, when that old man chose to bring Tyson back instead of grooming me, my fate has already been sealed. Even without Paisley and Max, I still would have never gotten what I want.'
Edmond suddenly burst into laughter, letting Jolin and her team cuff him and pull him up from the chair.
As he passed by Tyson, he forced himself to stop and looked at him with eyes full of envy. "Tyson, I really envy you. Ever since we were kids, I admired your intelligence. You always scored full marks on exams, and you could memorize an entire passage after reading it just twice.
"But no matter how hard I tried, I could never reach your level. You were like a mountain blocking my way. All the attention and praise from our parents and elders went to you. And when it was my turn, all I got was the same old line—'Learn from your brother.'
"Learn what? How? I've worked so hard, but I still couldn't surpass you. What else could I do?"
The more Edmond spoke, the more agitated he became, his face turning red.
"Save it for the station," Jolin interrupted coldly.
To Jolin, blaming others for their excellence was the most foolish, pathetic, and incompetent thing a person could do.
Edmond said, "I'm not leaving. Jolin, if you still see me as your uncle, then let me finish. I promise I won't cause trouble."
Jolin was about to use force, but Tyson stopped her. "Let him speak. This might be his last chance."
Jolin glanced at Elijah, who was leading the others in an orderly manner. She finally relented. She was also curious, thinking, 'What else could this arrogant uncle of mine possibly have to say?'
Edmond straightened his posture, regaining his usual air of elegance—if not for the stark contrast of the bright silver handcuffs on his wrists.
He said, "Then our youngest brother was born. He was showered with our parents' love. Even when he and I made the same mistakes, I was the only one who got scolded—because I was the older one.
"And after they were done lecturing me, they'd always add, 'Learn from your big brother.' I was going insane. I really was. Three sons in total—one was the brilliant heir, one was the most spoiled. And me? What was I?
"So I didn't just hate our parents. I hated all of you. I hated you so much I wished you'd all die soon."
