After returning to Harrowfell, Paisley immediately threw herself into work.
Since Grayson's school was about to start and keeping him by her side wasn't practical, she had Linna take him back to the Vanderbilt family.
At that moment, in Vanderbilt Manor, Lauren stood in the courtyard, eagerly looking into the distance.
Reginald stepped outside with a coat and draped it over her shoulders. "It's chilly out here. What are you doing standing around?"
Lauren kept her eyes on the entrance. "I'm waiting for Sonny to come home."
Lauren hadn't seen Sonny in so long that she missed him terribly. She looked at Reginald with hopeful eyes. "Do you think Paisy will bring Rena along when she drops off Sonny?"
The moment Reginald thought about his adorable little granddaughter, his eyes lit up with excitement.
"If that's the case, that'd be great!" He immediately called for the butler and told him to have the kitchen prepare more dishes.
Lauren checked the time and complained, "Honestly, Dominick knew Paisy was bringing Sonny home today, so why isn't he back yet?"
If they missed the chance to have dinner together, that would be such a shame.
Just as she was speaking, a car pulled up outside the gate. After the security guard checked, the gate slowly opened.
Lauren's eyes lit up, and she took two excited steps forward. "They're here! They're here now!"
As soon as the car came to a steady stop, Grayson opened the door and hopped out all by himself.
Seeing that, Lauren rushed over in excitement and scooped Grayson up in her arms, covering him with kisses. "Sonny, my dear grandson! I missed you so much!"
Grayson was overwhelmed by her enthusiasm. "Ah—Grandma! Your lipstick got all over my face!"
Reginald stood by the car for a moment, waiting to see if anyone else would get out. When no one did, he walked over to Grayson's side and peered into the back seat.
But inside, the car was completely empty. The only person left was Linna sitting in the driver's seat.
Linna glanced up when she saw Reginald looking in and casually raised a hand. "Hey there. Your grandson's been delivered safe and sound. If there's nothing else, I'll be heading off."
She was eager to get back and finish off the stash of fine liquor at Paisley's place.
Lauren finally realized that only Grayson had come back, and even the person who brought him wasn't Paisley. "Sonny, where's your mom?"
"Yeah, and what about your sister? Why are you the only one here?" Reginald asked as he watched the car drive away.
Grayson politely thanked the servant who took his suitcase. "Thanks for carrying my bag."
Then, as his grandparents stared at him in shock and the servant looked flattered, he explained, "Mom's really busy. She just got back and went straight to work on set, so she didn't have time to bring me back.
"Linna took me instead. As for Rena, she went home with Mom. She said she was sleepy and wanted to go to bed early."
Over the past few weeks, Grayson had behaved well enough to regain the privilege of contacting Paisley. That meant that from now on, if he missed Paisley, he could call her anytime.
Paisley wouldn't ignore his calls anymore, and she'd take him out for meals now and then—or even let him stay with her.
Plus, he had secretly bought Rena a smartwatch. Not even Paisley knew about it.
Now Serena and Grayson could talk to each other in private and share their little secrets.
That was why Grayson had to be a good boy and listen to Paisley from now on. That way, he could see Paisley and Rena more often.
Lauren couldn't hide her disappointment. She was on the verge of tears. She thought, 'When would I finally get to have a meal with my precious granddaughter?'
She knew she had been wrong before—she had said a lot of bad things about Paisley and her granddaughter. But back then, she hadn't known anything. She had just been worried about Sonny and Dominick.
"Oh well. We'll have plenty of chances in the future," Reginald said, trying to comfort Lauren, though he felt just as regretful.
Lauren sniffled. "No wonder that brat Dominick isn't in a hurry to come home. He must've known all along that it wasn't Paisy bringing Sonny back."
She thought, 'If Paisy had been the one dropping Grayson off, that brat would've rushed home no matter what.'
Once the school year started, Serena finally returned to kindergarten and saw Sophia, the teacher she had been thinking about so much.
At first, Serena was really excited. But gradually, Paisley noticed that her enthusiasm had faded. In fact, she even seemed a little reluctant to go to kindergarten.
Paisley asked Maria and Sophia about it, but they both said Serena had been acting completely normal during school activities.
Just as Paisley was feeling puzzled, she got another call from Sophia.
"A parent-child sports day?" Paisley repeated the words as she sat in the film set.
"Yes. Didn't Rena tell you about it when she got home? Oh, that makes sense. I was wondering why we still haven't received your registration form," Sophia said.
"She didn't mention it," Paisley said, suddenly realizing that this might be why Serena had been feeling down lately. "Um, Sophia, do both parents have to participate?"
Sophia chuckled, "Of course not. We understand that every family's situation is different, so there's no strict requirement. Either parent can come, and grandparents are welcome too. As long as someone from the family is there, that's all that matters."
Hearing that, Paisley let out a sigh of relief. "Got it. I'll ask Rena about it tonight and send in the form as soon as possible."
"Sounds good."
