After signing in and taking a photo with the security guard, Sheela adjusted her disguise, held onto Paisley's phone, and walked into the kindergarten.
She had been pretty relaxed at first. After all, it was just a kindergarten, and she was bundled up so tightly that no one would recognize her.
So she didn't rush to find Paisley right away. She strolled around as if she were in a park, casually glancing here and there. When she spotted a rocking chair nearby, she even sat down for a moment to enjoy it.
It wasn't until she heard the laughter of children that she suddenly remembered why she was here. She quickly got up from the chair and went off to find Paisley.
As she passed through the main hall of the kindergarten, and then down a corridor lined with children's drawings, she couldn't stop smiling beneath her mask.
She had always dreamed of getting married and having kids by the time she turned 28. And not just one—she wanted three. Two daughters and a son.
But now she was 28, and forget about kids—she didn't even have a man in her life. Sure, she'd been paired up with plenty of male celebrities for publicity, but half of them were just using her for clout, and the other half weren't even into women.
And with her company forbidding her from dating publicly, marriage and kids were completely out of the question. After so many years in the entertainment industry, though, she'd long since come to terms with all of it.
Now, she just wanted to focus on her career—at the very least, she owed that much to the fans who had always supported her. That didn't mean she didn't love kids, though. She especially liked well-behaved ones.
Following the sounds of chatter, she walked past the corridor full of drawings and arrived at the indoor gym, where a fun sports event was about to start.
Parents and children were taking their seats, making the place lively and a little chaotic.
Sheela clutched Paisley's phone in one hand and held her mask in place with the other as she searched for Paisley in the crowd. Every now and then, an adorable child would pass by, and she'd smile and greet them.
Suddenly, a mischievous little kid came running straight at her. She couldn't dodge in time and got bumped right in the chest.
Instinctively, she crouched down to steady the child so they wouldn't fall. But the sudden movement made her sunglasses slip off her nose, exposing her eyes.
Sheela froze for a second, but she quickly helped the child up, not thinking about grabbing her sunglasses right away.
Just then, the child's parent rushed over. "I'm so sorry! My kid's a bit wild. Are you okay?"
The parent looked into Sheela's eyes and suddenly seemed to be in a daze. Sheela had seen that look way too many times before. Her mind went into overdrive, and she hurriedly put her sunglasses back on. "I—I'm fine."
"That voice—" The parent's eyes widened in shock after hearing her speak.
Sheela instinctively covered her mouth, her heart pounding. She thought, 'Did they recognize me?'
She let out an awkward laugh and deliberately lowered her voice. "I'm just here looking for someone."
She straightened up, pretending to act casual, and tried to leave quickly. The parent didn't say anything else, but their eyes followed her every move.
Just as Sheela thought she might've gotten away with it, she heard the parent call out behind her, "Wait, are you Sheela Connelly?"
It wasn't a loud question, but it had a big impact. The parents and teachers nearby all stopped what they were doing.
"Sheela Connelly?"
"Who? Sheela Connelly?"
"Where is Sheela Connelly?"
Sheela squeezed her eyes shut, hoping if she just kept walking, maybe no one would pay her any mind.
But she had seriously underestimated both her own influence and her fans' ability to recognize her at a glance. Even just her posture and the way she walked had been enough for someone to figure out who she was.
"Oh my! It is Sheela!"
Within seconds, she was completely surrounded. By the time Paisley heard the commotion and made her way over, Sheela was already trapped in a circle of overly enthusiastic parents and teachers.
"Sheela?" Paisley stared at her in disbelief, unable to understand why she was even here.
Sheela felt like crying but had to keep up her professional image. As a seasoned entertainer, no matter how flustered she was, she had to maintain her composure in front of fans.
So what Paisley saw was a Sheela caught in an awkward situation—her eyes were clearly panicked, but she still kept a graceful smile on her face as she called out, "Ms. Sutton!"
The moment Sheela said that, everyone turned to Paisley, and a wave of excited murmurs spread through the crowd.
"Sheela was invited by Paisley?"
"Oh my."
There was no way Paisley could push through on her own, so Nathaniel and Max ended up pulling Sheela out of the crowd together.
Max cleared the way with Leo in front, while Nathaniel held onto Sheela and led her forward from behind. Sheela almost lost her balance and nearly fell.
"Careful." Nathaniel grabbed her arm with one hand and gave a slight tug, pulling her back up before she hit the ground.
Sheela looked up in surprise, meeting Nathaniel's slightly curved lips and his naturally alluring, narrow eyes.
"Ah, thanks," she said. For some reason, her cheeks felt a little warm.
Finally, Sheela made it to Paisley's side, only to realize that a whole group of people was standing behind her—including her ex-husband, Dominick.
Out of everyone here, the only ones Sheela had met before were Max and Dominick, so she greeted just the two of them while giving a general greeting to the rest.
"Why did you come in?" Paisley asked.
Sheela handed over the phone she had been clutching. "You left your phone in my car."
Paisley finally noticed her phone was missing and took it with an apologetic look. "Sorry for the trouble."
Sheela glanced at the crowd of parents gathering around and taking endless pictures with their phones. Looking a bit troubled, she said, "Yeah, it's a bit of a hassle."
Just then, the principal squeezed through the crowd and walked over. Paisley thought she was about to get scolded—after all, the sports day had already been delayed for quite some time because of the people around her.
But to her surprise, the principal grabbed Sheela's hand excitedly. "Ms. Sheela, I'm a huge fan! Can I take a picture with you?"
Paisley stared in shock at the middle-aged woman in front of her, who was well over fifty. Fangirling truly had no age or gender limits. And just like that, before the sports day could even begin, the atmosphere had already reached a fever pitch.
For ordinary folks like Isabella, things like who was the richest person or who controlled which powerful family didn't matter at all. They didn't care about the Vanderbilt family, the Godard family, or the Beaumont family.
Those elite circles were too far removed from their daily lives—so distant it felt unreal. And honestly, they had nothing to do with them. But Sheela was different. Everyone knew Sheela. She was a superstar. A goddess they could only see on TV or their phones.
But now, that very superstar was standing right in front of them. Of course, they would be excited. They were absolutely losing it. Even the little kids recognized Sheela and started clamoring for a picture with her.
In the end, because the crowd was way too enthusiastic, Sheela had no choice but to agree to the principal's request and perform on stage. The parents, young and old, were all beyond thrilled.
To keep the energy up while making sure the sports day could still proceed as planned, Paisley decided not to confront the unexpected guests for showing up without notice. She sat down with the two kids, and naturally, the others followed suit.
Normally, the school would prepare one or two extra chairs per family, just in case. But for Paisley's group, it wasn't just a matter of one or two extra seats.
In the end, her and Serena's section practically turned into a VIP area, packed with people. And every single one of them was a big deal—even the principal had to be mindful of their presence.
On stage, Sheela sang the theme song from a drama she had starred in before. Its upbeat and lively vibe fit the occasion perfectly.
The audience was completely captivated. It wasn't that Sheela had the most amazing voice, but her face—her face was just too stunning.
After finishing the song, Sheela took the mic and said, "Hi, I'm Sheela. I'm here today as a friend of Paisley." She pointed to Paisley in the audience. "Right now, I'm filming a new drama written by her. It's called Elation, so I hope you'll all support us!"
Paisley looked at Sheela on stage and couldn't help but be impressed. Even at a time like this, she still managed to promote her work.
Meanwhile, the parents in the crowd were once again completely stunned, wondering just who on earth this Paisley woman was.
