At the mention of Anna, Tyson's expression grew complicated because Anna was already very old, the police ultimately decided not to press charges against her.
After being discharged from the hospital, Tyson brought her back to the mansion, where she continued living at Moon Haven.
However, she had completely lost her ability to take care of herself and could no longer speak. In the little time she had left, she could only spend her days in bed or in a wheelchair.
Fortunately, the short and meticulous caregiver remained by her side, tending to her needs with great familiarity, making her remaining days a little less difficult.
"She wears the brooch you gave her every day. No one else can touch it except her caregiver," Tyson said as he carefully observed Paisley's expression.
Seeing that Paisley's demeanor remained indifferent, without the slightest change, he understood her stance. With that, Tyson said no more.
In fact, not only did Anna wear the brooch Paisley had given her every day, but she also constantly spoke of Paisley and Serena.
Every morning, as soon as she opened her eyes, she would ask whoever was nearby when her granddaughter Paisy would come to visit her.
It was as if she had forgotten all the bad memories of the past—or perhaps her mind had regressed and remained frozen at the time when Paisley had first arrived at the mansion.
Back then, she had been a kind and loving grandmother, and Paisley had been a respectful and obedient granddaughter.
The image of the two of them laughing and chatting together felt as if it had happened just yesterday. But reality had long since changed, and there was no going back.
The next day, Tyson and Max left Harrowfell and returned to Montera.
Grayson had a wonderful weekend at Paisley's place, but happy times always passed quickly. In the blink of an eye, Sunday afternoon arrived, and it was time for Paisley to take Grayson back to the Vanderbilt family.
"Sonny, put on your coat. It's time to go." Paisley had already changed into her outfit. When she turned around to call Grayson, she saw the little boy sitting stubbornly on the couch, refusing to move.
Beside Grayson, Serena sat quietly, blinking her big eyes without saying a word.
"Grayson?" Paisley walked over. "Didn't I tell you ten minutes ago to get dressed?"
Grayson lifted his head and looked at Paisley with eyes that resembled Dominick's. "Mom."
"Hmm?" Paisley looked at him.
Grayson hesitated as if he wanted to say something but held back. Then, he glanced at Serena, and his beautiful eyes started to redden slightly.
A moment later, he looked back at Paisley and obediently began putting on his clothes. However, just as he was slipping on his outermost coat, a small hand reached out from the couch and tightly grasped his sleeve.
Grayson turned around and saw Serena pursing her lips, looking as if she was about to cry.
"Rena, let go. I have to go," Grayson said.
Serena said nothing. She just stubbornly clutched his coat, and then, without warning, big teardrops started rolling down her cheeks.
"Mom, can you not let Brother leave?"
Paisley froze. Serena had just called Sonny "Brother".
She had always addressed him as "Grayson" before. Paisley knew the little girl had been holding onto her resentment, so she had never forced her to change the way she addressed him.
Hearing Serena call him "Brother" again filled Grayson with excitement.
Ever since that day at school, when he had helped Stella bully Rena and Rena cried, saying she never wanted a brother again, she had never called him "Brother" since.
He had thought that for the rest of their lives, she would only ever call him "Grayson."
"Rena, what did you just call me?" Grayson asked excitedly. As he spoke, he stretched out his small arms and wrapped them around Serena. "Rena, did you just call me Brother?"
Serena pursed her lips. She didn't even know why she had said it. She had decided not to have a brother anymore, but for some reason, she still called him that.
"Mom, can you not let Brother leave?" Serena, her eyes brimming with tears, looked up at Paisley and repeated her request.
Paisley hadn't expected such an emotional farewell between the siblings. She crouched down in front of them. "But Brother has school tomorrow, and you have preschool too, don't you? How about we all play together again next weekend?"
Grayson knew he had to go to school and couldn't stay with his sister all the time. At this moment, he had never hated school so much in his life.
"Don't cry, Rena. We'll play together again next weekend." Grayson comforted her as he wiped her tears with his sleeve.
Serena sniffled, her dark eyes darting around as she tried to negotiate. "Then can Brother leave tomorrow instead?"
"Tomorrow?" Maria watched the tearful siblings and sighed, "How about this? Let Sonny stay one more night, and I'll take him to school in the morning. As for his backpack, the Vanderbilt family can just send it directly to the school."
Paisley thought for a moment. "Sonny's school is on my way to the film set. I'll take him to school tomorrow morning."
When Grayson heard this, his face lit up with joy, and he held onto Serena tightly, unwilling to let go.
Serena was still confused about what was happening. Being hugged so tightly by Grayson, she looked dazed. "Brother, you're not leaving?"
"Not leaving. I'll go tomorrow instead," Grayson laughed heartily. This was great—he could spend another night with Mom and his sister.
"Rena, can you call me 'brother' one more time?" Grayson blinked his bright, starry eyes at Serena, looking like a puppy that had just been given expensive dog food.
"Brother," Serena called softly.
"Sister," said Grayson.
"Brother!" Serena shouted.
"Sister!" so did Grayson.
Paisley covered her ears with both hands. "Alright, you two, keep it down. It's not a competition."
Grayson quickly covered his mouth with his hand, and then grinned and pulled Serena off the couch. "Sister, come on, let's go play!"
Maria watched as the two kids ran off hand in hand and let out a deep sigh. "Paisy, look at those two—they can't bear to be apart."
"Enough, Maria, I know what you're about to say," Paisley cut her off, not wanting her to continue.
Maria realized Paisley had misunderstood and quickly explained, "Oh no, you've got it wrong. I'm not trying to convince you to get back together with Dominick. What I meant was—have you considered fighting for Sonny's custody too? Raising two children is the same as raising one."
She used to think Grayson was an ungrateful brat, so she had given up on him. But now, seeing that the boy genuinely wanted to change, and considering he was Paisley's biological son, he deserved a chance.
"Things are fine the way they are now," Paisley said, showing no interest in fighting Dominick for Grayson's custody.
The Vanderbilt family would never give up on Sonny, just like the Godard family would never give up on Rena. She didn't want to get caught up in pointless arguments and entanglements again. This arrangement was just right.
At Vanderbilt Manor, Dominick had just finished his shower. Droplets of water trickled slowly down his well-defined muscles.
He walked into the dressing room and put on a crisp new dress shirt and tailored trousers. The custom-fitted shirt perfectly outlined his strong, sculpted upper body, and the gleaming cufflinks sparkled under the light.
With his long, elegant fingers, he fastened the buttons one by one, unhurriedly. When only three buttons remained undone near his throat, he paused.
Before long, a knock sounded at the door. "Brother." Kayla's voice followed right after.
Standing in front of the mirror, Dominick was spraying on cologne when he heard Kayla's voice and frowned. Outside, Kayla knocked impatiently. After a long moment, she finally heard footsteps approaching from inside.
When the door swung open, the first thing she saw was Dominick's perfectly styled hair, followed by the faint, intoxicating scent of his cologne.
"Oh my, who are you trying to seduce?" Kayla's eyes widened as she took in Dominick's strikingly polished appearance. The only phrase that came to mind was 'peacocking.'
