Paisley didn't expect that even four years had passed, Marissa would still play dirty tricks on her. If this had happened four years ago, Paisley would have been afraid that Dominick and Grayson would misunderstand her and would have helped Marissa up.
But now, Paisley felt no love for Dominick, so she had nothing to fear. She wanted to see if Marissa would really just lie down on the ground if she didn't stop Marissa. After all, Marissa indeed owed her an apology.
Marissa thought that by displaying her weakness in public, Paisley would kindly help her up. She had only intended to put on a show. There was no way she would actually sit on the ground.
To Marissa's surprise, Paisley showed no intention of stopping her. Paisley remained seated, her expression completely unfazed. Upon closer inspection, Marissa noticed a hint of mockery in Paisley's eyes.
Marissa gritted her teeth, contemplating what to do. But she was already squatting down, holding onto the table. If she got up now, it would prove that she was pretending to be weak and that she didn't genuinely want to apologize.
So, Marissa forced herself and truly sat on the ground.
The surrounding customers gasped in surprise, "What is she doing? Why did she suddenly sit on the floor? Is she sick?"
Marissa didn't care about the crowd's murmurs anymore. She needed to portray herself as the weaker party. The more miserable she appeared, the more sympathy Dominick and Grayson would feel for her.
Marissa clutched Paisley's pants, her voice filled with sorrow and sincerity as if she were truly heartfelt. "Ms. Sutton, I have already apologized to you. Can't you stop being angry and remarry Dom?"
"Marissa, what are you doing?" Dominick rushed over, pulling Marissa's arm. "Get up. The floor is dirty."
Marissa shook her head, her acting rivaling that of the best actress. "Dom, it's all my fault. If I can help you and Ms. Sutton get back together, I can do anything."
"I don't need you to do anything. Just get up," Dominick said, pulling Marissa up and glaring at Paisley. "Paisley, you're going too far."
Grayson also came to Marissa's side, his eyes filled with anger.
Marissa leaned against Dominick like a rootless water plant, swaying as if she would fall at any moment without his support.
Paisley found it both amusing and infuriating. "What did I do? I didn't push her down."
Dominick's eyes widened in anger. "You..."
Marissa quickly explained, "I lost my balance. I thought this would earn Ms. Sutton's forgiveness."
Paisley scoffed as if she had heard the biggest joke. "Marissa, you should be careful. What if I really let go of my grievances and took your advice to remarry Dominick?"
Marissa didn't expect Paisley to say that, and her expression froze. She could feel Dominick's grip on her hand tighten suddenly, and his breathing quickened.
At this point, Paisley had lost all her appetite. She put on her garment. "But don't worry. I don't have a habit of picking up the trash I threw away."
With a cold gaze, Paisley scanned the three of them. "I hope the three of you can live happily together forever." After saying that, Paisley took Maria and Serena and walked toward the door.
"Paisley, what nonsense are you talking about? Come back. Let's clear this up," Dominick said, releasing Marissa and preparing to chase after Paisley.
"Dom. Ouch..." Marissa cried out in pain, clutching the edge of the table, her body swaying dangerously.
Grayson noticed that Marissa's knee was bleeding. "Dad, Marissa's knee is bleeding. Hurry, Dad."
Dominick paused midway, watching as Paisley entered the elevator with the nanny and Serena. Hearing Grayson's urgent shout, he gradually calmed down and quickly returned to Marissa's side.
"How are you? Are you okay?" Dominick asked softly.
Marissa shook her head, leaning into Dominick's embrace. "Dom, it's all my fault..."
"It has nothing to do with you. You were trying to help me." Dominick helped Marissa sit down. "Don't be so foolish in the future."
Marissa nodded obediently like a loyal puppy that had done something wrong. "Okay." She stroked Grayson's cheek. "I just feel sorry for Grayson. He longs for a mother so much."
Grayson pouted, his eyes red but stubbornly refusing to let the tears fall.
"Good boy, come here," Marissa said.
Grayson rushed into Marissa's arms, finally unable to hold back his tears.
"Don't cry. She doesn't want you, but I do. From now on, I'll be your mother," Marissa said, her eyes also turning red.
Dominick watched this scene, feeling a pang in his heart. He thought, 'Paisley, why are you so cruel?'
In the car on the way back, Serena lay in Maria's arms.
Although Maria had just managed to pull Serena away from Marissa in time, Serena was still somewhat frightened.
Maria gently patted Serena's back and said to Paisley, "Paisy, how much longer do we have to stay in Harrowfell?"
Maria didn't want to stay here for another day. Just thinking about the possibility of reencountering those annoying people made her feel uncomfortable and irritable.
Paisley understood what Maria meant. After thinking for a moment, she replied, "At least a few more months."
The TV series that Paisley was collaborating on with Gary hadn't started filming yet. Once it began, she would have to cooperate with the crew as per the contract.
Moreover, Paisley had several other projects in Harrowfell that were already contracted, and she couldn't back out at the last minute.
"Maria, if you don't like it here, you can take Rena back to Brightmoor first," Paisley suggested, thinking it might be better for Serena not to be around her.
"No," Serena immediately protested. "I don't want to leave Mommy. Maria, I don't want to leave Mommy." Serena clutched Maria's clothes, shaking her head vigorously.
Maria couldn't bear to see the little darling unhappy, nodding repeatedly. "Okay, we won't leave your mommy."
"Then you can't leave either. I can't be without you," Serena insisted, holding onto Maria's clothes tightly, her eyes sincere.
Maria was melted by Serena's expression. "Okay, I can't be without you either." Maria thought, 'How could I bear to leave her? She's been my precious since she was a baby.'
Serena smiled and nestled back into Maria's embrace.
As Maria and Serena chatted and laughed affectionately, Paisley fell into silence while driving.
Paisley recalled her collaboration with Gary, and her previously relaxed mood vanished in an instant.
So far, the female lead for the show was still set to be Brittany. During this time, Gary had used various connections and methods but had not been able to change this outcome.
Paisley tightened her grip on the steering wheel. This project was her labor of love, and she absolutely wouldn't allow someone like Brittany to ruin it.
Paisley thought, 'If Gary can't resolve this issue soon, I'll have to handle it myself. I'm really curious about who is funding Brittany or the Sullivan family.'
But now, Paisley felt no love for Dominick, so she had nothing to fear. She wanted to see if Marissa would really just lie down on the ground if she didn't stop Marissa. After all, Marissa indeed owed her an apology.
