Marcus didn't argue anymore.
He stared straight at the small box containing Emma's ashes and dropped to his knees with a thud.
In that instant, Sophia—who'd been hiding behind Marcus—grabbed Connor and tried to run.
But she couldn't escape.
A mercenary kicked her back.
I grabbed her hair and forced her down next to Emma's urn.
Connor was just a kid. The scene terrified him and he started sobbing.
I slowly walked over and grabbed his wrist.
"Tell me—why did you say you talked to Emma that day?!"
Connor looked at me fearfully and whispered:
"Mommy told me to say it. She said if I did, Uncle Marcus would stay and sleep with her..."
Connor's words made me sick to my stomach.
I started dry heaving uncontrollably.
This disgusting pair...
The reporters who heard the child's words started cursing:
"Professor Kane, you're a fucking monster! You killed your own daughter for this whore, then had the nerve to pay us to ruin your wife's reputation?! Are you human or animal?!"
"And Sophia—you're the real bitch! I heard the Winston family even paid for your college and grad school! Is this how you repay your benefactors?! Sleeping with her husband and killing her daughter?! You should die! Both of you should die!"
The overwhelming rage finally scared Sophia.
She knelt there shaking as she stared at Emma's ashes.
She kowtowed while apologizing:
"I'm sorry, Emma. It's Auntie's fault. Please forgive me. Don't blame me—blame your father. He's heartless, unfit to be a father..."
"I just made one phone call. I didn't force him. He chose to come. He took the kidney that belonged to you. Please forgive me—or blame Connor instead. He lied, he deceived your father..."
Everyone was shocked by Sophia's words.
This woman would throw away her own son to escape responsibility.
Marcus clearly hadn't expected Sophia to say this either.
He stumbled to his feet and punched her in the face.
Eyes bloodshot, he screamed at her:
"You killed Emma! You seduced me into your bed! You made me lose my daughter! You're shameless! You deserve to die and burn in hell!"
Sophia fought back frantically, but she was no match for a man's strength.
Watching Marcus, I smiled and walked over to whisper in his ear:
"Marcus, hit harder. How else can you release all that hatred?"
Marcus glanced at me, then turned back to Sophia and clenched his fist, punched her temple!
After years of medical training, Marcus knew exactly where people were most vulnerable.
That one punch stopped Sophia's breathing forever.
When Sophia collapsed, Connor threw himself on her body, wailing.
The crying reminded Marcus of something.
He slowly turned and wrapped his hand around Connor's throat.
Until Connor stopped breathing too.
Seeing the mother and son dead before him, Marcus completely broke down.
His legs gave out and he collapsed, pulling a scalpel from his bag to kill himself.
But as he raised his hand, I kicked the blade away.
At this point, a quick death would be mercy for him.
He had to suffer until the day he lost the right to live.
—
Three hours later, Marcus was arrested for murder.
News about the professor who killed his daughter for his mistress hit trending that night.
I knew Marcus wouldn't have an easy time inside.
Sure enough, on his third day, I got a call that he'd tried to kill himself but failed.
Now even dying was too difficult for him.
A month later, I heard Marcus had apparently suffered a mental breakdown.
Three months later, his case was decided.
Multiple charges combined—death penalty, immediate execution.
Before his execution, I visited Marcus one last time.
I picked up the phone and spoke quietly:
"Marcus, even if you become a ghost in hell, Emma will never forgive you! You'll suffer for eternity!"
I hung up and watched Marcus lose his mind on the other side of the glass.
After the execution, I went to Thailand.
I found a master to handle Marcus's afterlife arrangements.
I really wouldn't let him have peace even in death!
