The paparazzi went absolutely wild, voices overlapping in chaos: "Mr. Harrison? So even if Serenity comes back, she still can't touch Bridget's position?"
"No kidding! What's the point of joining a rich family if you're still second-class?"
My phone buzzed aggressively, and my manager Amy's voice practically shattered my eardrum: "Serenity! Honey, please! Get your ass back here right now! Forget this whole reunion thing!"
"The livestream's gone viral and the internet's losing its mind! Everyone's saying you're ungrateful!"
"Do you have any idea how much money the Harrison family has invested in our company?! You're gonna give me a heart attack!"
I couldn't help but chuckle at Amy's meltdown.
"Chill, Amy. Just watch the show. If anything goes sideways, I'll handle it."
Amy's voice cracked like she was about to cry: "Sweetie! That Jake Harrison—the heir to everything! He's obsessed with protecting Bridget!"
"You've pissed off Bridget this bad, you think he's gonna let it slide? When the Harrison family pulls their money, you'll be the first person the company blacklists!"
Suddenly there was chaos on her end, and Amy panicked: "Oh shit! Gotta go! Harrison Industries' business team just messaged us! Listen to me—get back here NOW!"
Blacklist me?
I actually laughed out loud.
My adoptive mom was three-time Academy Award winner Rebecca Stone!
I just never went public with it because I didn't want people saying I got where I am through connections!
The Harrison family thought they could blacklist me?
Please!
Bridget saw me hang up and stay quiet, so she leaned in with a smug whisper: "Looks like my big brother's already making moves... Take my advice and play nice!"
"Blood relation or not, with that attitude, you'll never set foot in the Harrison family house again!"
Right then, a flashy red Ferrari drifted to a stop at the Harrison family gates with a screech.
The legendary future heir, Jake Harrison, stepped out looking ice-cold pissed.
Bridget instantly switched personas, running over all sweet and innocent: "Brother... thank God you're finally here..."
Jake walked up to me and looked me up and down. "So you're Serenity Harrison?"
The paparazzi held their breath like they'd hit the gossip jackpot, craning their necks:
"Mr. Harrison! The hottest young actress in Hollywood! Serenity! She's your long-lost sister! What's going through your head right now?!"
Jake let out a cold laugh.
"Sure, Serenity's got Harrison family blood, but Bridget's been part of our family for years. She's the only sister that matters to me."
"Plus, Bridget's actually a few months older than her. Coming back here on day one and disrespecting Bridget like this just shows she wasn't raised right!"
My phone started ringing—my adoptive mom calling.
She must be furious too.
But I didn't rush to answer.
Jake kept going: "I don't care what kind of star you think you are, but the Harrison family isn't your personal publicity stunt! If you're gonna act up in our house, don't blame me for getting ugly about it!"
The paparazzi buzzed nonstop, every camera pointed at me, waiting for my response.
I looked straight into the lenses with a mocking smile: "This is live to the whole country, so everyone can see exactly what's happening. Who tried to strip my clothes off? How did that turn into me 'acting up'?"
"And didn't you already pull funding from my projects? What's with this good guy act now?"
"So this is what the richest family in Los Angeles does—just rewrites reality however they want?"
As soon as the words left my mouth, more than half the paparazzi started whispering among themselves, and everything they were saying was supporting me.
Bridget's face went stiff, and she immediately put on her innocent victim act.
"My brother didn't mean it like that. He just can't stand seeing me hurt, that's all."
She paused, then added with fake generosity: "The Harrison family has more money than we know what to do with. We can afford to take care of one more person."
Her eyes got all watery as she continued: "Everything today was just following Harrison family traditions. I think there's been a misunderstanding."
"She didn't get much education and started working so young. She's got more street experience than me, so it makes sense she'd think people have ulterior motives."
I let out a cold laugh and raised my hand like I was going to slap her.
She immediately squeezed her eyes shut and cowered backward.
I dropped my hand and laughed mockingly.
"You know who the first person to ask me for a DNA test was?"
"Let me break it down for you—whether the Harrison family accepts me isn't up to some adopted kid!"
