Felix's outstretched hand froze in mid-air.
He looked at Lucian's face, and after a long while finally managed to squeeze out a complete sentence:
"You... you are... Mr. Lucian Bennett?"
There was a tremor in his voice.
As someone in the business world, he couldn't possibly not recognize this face that regularly appeared at the top of the Forbes rich list.
This was the face he had once pointed to while telling me he wanted to become as wealthy as Lucian, never imagining that Lucian would become my fiancé!
"Yara... is your fiancée?"
Felix looked completely incredulous, but Lilith's reaction was even more intense.
"Impossible! This is absolutely impossible! Mr. Bennett! Don't let her deceive you!"
She pointed at me disheveled, complaining to Lucian:
"She's just a thief! She's just a thief! A woman kicked out by our Allens family! She'll do anything for money! She stole my life, and now she wants to deceive you!"
After listening to her incoherent accusations, Lucian's lips curved into a mocking smile.
"Miss Allens."
He looked down at Lilith condescendingly,
"My fiancée is the only daughter of New York's richest man, Henry Sinclair."
"Do you think she needs to covet your family's pitiful assets?"
With that, Lucian extended his slender fingers, pointing across the street.
There, a whole row of magnificent shops all bore the same logo—Sinclair Family Jewelry.
"All the chain jewelry stores on this street were a welcome gift from my father-in-law, the patriarch of New York's Sinclair family, to Yara the day he acknowledged her."
"You say she stole Sinclair family jewelry? This whole street belongs to her. Even if she really wanted something, she'd just be taking her own assets. What's the problem?"
"Your framing tactics are quite childish."
"No... impossible..." Lilith murmured to herself, her eyes unfocused, clearly unable to accept this reality.
I ignored their shock and simply bent down, carefully picking up the destroyed ring from the ground.
I held the remains in my palm, looking at them coldly.
"This ring has a 5-carat top-grade pigeon blood ruby as the main stone, with pink and blue diamonds as accent stones, and a specially proportioned platinum band. The market estimate is five million dollars, just as a starting point."
"Most importantly, this was the wedding ring I custom-made privately for Lucian and myself."
I looked at their terrified eyes with complete indifference:
"Lilith, Felix, prepare to pay compensation."
"My lawyer's letter will be mailed to your homes in a few days."
With that, I turned and walked away.
Lucian naturally took off his suit jacket, draped it over my shoulders, and held me tightly in his arms.
Behind us came Felix's heart-wrenching roar.
"Yara! Yara! Explain this to me! How can you be getting married? Don't you love me?! Come back here!"
That voice was both miserable and ridiculous.
Lucian's warm palm gently covered my ears, blocking out all the noise behind us.
He lowered his head to my ear, using a lazy voice only I could hear, with a hint of coquettish tone:
"Don't pay attention to these crazy people, it'll dirty your ears. I'll take you to eat king crab."
"Also, my wedding ring is ruined. I want you to make me a new one, one that's even more beautiful than this."
Listening to his coaxing, gentle voice, all the grievance and anger in my heart seemed to be instantly soothed.
I turned my head and smiled brightly at him.
"Okay."
That night, in the five-star hotel suite where Felix's family was temporarily staying, eight-year-old Liam tossed and turned, unable to sleep.
He had always been told that mommy was a bad woman who stole Lilith's life, a shameful thief.
He just wanted to teach her a lesson, ignore her so she would reform.
Mommy treasured him so much that as long as she apologized, he could allow mommy to hug him again and play with him.
But why didn't she apologize after leaving the Smith family, and instead seemed even happier?
And why did that man named Lucian call her "fiancée"?
Were they going to get married? After marriage, would they have new children, and then he wouldn't be mommy's only child anymore!
Did she really not want him and daddy anymore?!
Thinking of this, Liam suddenly sat up from under the covers, an indescribable panic surging in his heart.
He couldn't help but take out his phone, hesitating for a long time before finally dialing the number he had blocked countless times.
