By the time I woke up the next day, Ronan had somehow left while I was sleeping. I couldn't help but feel a pang in my chest, wondering why he didn't stay. I could have gone looking for him in his room or his office, but I decided not to.
"Why the long face?" Nyra's voice jolted me out of my thoughts while I turned the hallway towards the stairs.
"I expected to see a bright face after your loud moans denied me a peaceful sleep. Surely you must have orgasmed all your troubles," she jested, hooking her arm around my elbow.
"What!" I attempted to push her aside, eyes widening. Surely I hadn't been that loud.
"You weren't exactly subtle, Del, but yesterday was less loud than the other day... you know," she paused. "When you were in heat, with both alpha kings fu—"
"Jesus, Nyra, shut up!" I whisper yelled. "Do you want everyone in this house to know that I had sex? Plus, why didn't you tell me yesterday that you had heard me?"
"We were busy talking about Elias, and I was thinking how to ask you how the experience was," she playfully stated, earning a side jab from me.
"No, no, no. I am not telling you about my sex life," I whispered, pulling her down the stairs.
She whined. "Come on, Del, don't be like that. Is it a crime to want to know how you handled two alpha kings, obviously with bi—"
"I was thinking, why don't we explore the compound today?" I cut her off, guiding her to the front door, instead of the kitchen.
"But I am starving," she groaned. "You know, after your moans and Ronan's grunts, I found myself inside Elias's room, and we ended up having sex over and over again until the sun came up."
"Wait, Elias is around?" I asked her as we proceeded round the side of the mansion, slowly, enjoying the fresh air.
"Mmh mh," she hummed. "And I think now is the right time to ask him about what he is hiding."
"Right, because I am sure with your legs wide open last night you never got the chance to investigate," I snorted, my eyes wandering over the vast compound.
The Alpha Kings really lived like royalty. The estate grounds were vast and serene, with trimmed hedges, two white gazebos, a stone-lined orchard, and even a blue-tiled swimming pool glimmering beneath the morning sun. Flower beds bloomed along the paths, and every inch of the space spoke of power.
"Actually, I did," Nyra answered as we sat down on a wooden bench under the sun.
"And?" I asked.
"I didn't find anything because I didn't even know what I was looking for." I sighed at her words, leaning on the bench. The sun was warm, but there was a cold breeze that accompanied it. We sat there chatting about our lives back in our pack, my dad, Carter and Nyra's parents until hunger pushed us back inside.
When we entered the kitchen, Elias was leaning over the counter, whispering something to Maribel, whose forehead was creased. The same warm feeling enveloped me, but this time there was a coldness that came with it that made my wolf shiver. It was like Elias had done something that my body was responding to.
"Delaney," Elias gave me a nod, his gaze barely meeting mine. He then winked at Nyra, his eyes roaming hungrily over her.
"How do you have pure magic?" I went straight to the point.
"And don't even think about denying it because I felt it, and I am feeling it right now." I spread my legs, putting my hands akimbo as Nyra placed her arm around my shoulders.
"You know she won't let it go until you tell her," Maribel chimed in, pointing at the kitchen stools for us to sit on, but none of us wanted to sit.
"Fine, I will tell you and Nyra because I can feel her uncertainty around me," Elias stated, turning to look at us.
"I am a witch," he said as a matter of fact, his Adam's apple moving up and down as he swallowed saliva.
Silence filled the kitchen as I internalised his words. Maribel stood by his side, rubbing the side of his arm. Nyra and I looked at each other, her facial expressions mirroring mine. Up until rogues invaded our pack, I didn't know that witches existed, and now Elias was claiming to be one.
"How can you be a witch when you are a werewolf?" I asked him, my voice barely audible.
"I don't know, but I am both," he answered, eyes settling on Nyra.
"A hybrid," she whispered beside me, stepping away from me. It's not every time you learnt that your mate was part witch, part werewolf.
"I just have one question," I muttered, my mind taking me back to the morning of the mandatory run.
"Go ahead, no more secrets," he stated.
"That morning that Lucy died, you said that collateral damage was necessary for a greater good," I began, the weight of my words weighing down on me.
"Then the healer said that only a spell could kill Lucy the way it did." I paused, feeling a knot in my stomach forming.
"Yes, I used a spell on her," he confirmed.
"Why?" I whispered, my breaking voice barely audible.
"Because the alpha kings were on the verge of finding out that you had no wolf. I had to stop that from happening," he answered, wiping his index finger under his nose. I felt like all the air had been sucked out of my lungs.
"By killing an innocent she-wolf?" I asked, leaning on Nyra for support. My legs were shaking, failing to support my upper body weight.
"How did you even know I had no wolf?" I added, swallowing hard to soothe my drying throat.
"His magic couldn't sense your wolf," Maribel responded, lifting her eyes to look at him briefly.
"Look, Lucy wasn't exactly innocent. She had attempted to—"
"I don't care about what she had done, Elias." I interjected, stepping away from Nyra. An energy I had no idea where it was coming from began filling me, pushing me.
"You let the alpha kings lock me up for a crime you committed! They almost executed me, Elias, because of you!" I walked closer to him, waving a finger in front of him.
"I didn't let them, I couldn't have." He placed his hands on my shoulders, and despite attempting to push his hands away, he didn't let go. "That is why I used magic to force your first shift, to awaken your wolf, because I could feel that a spell had been cast to suppress it." I staggered back, only for his hold on me to steady me.
"Rick almost r-aped me because I had been thrown inside the dungeons because of you," I dragged the words, shaking my head.
"Delaney," Nyra called.
"Shut up, Nyra," I snapped. "I don't want to hear your excuses just because he is your mate. You don't understand, R-ick almost..." I trailed off, wiggling out of Elias's grasp. I held the counter, steadying myself.
"How could you look me in the eye after being responsible for all that?" I asked, looking at him through my hazy vision.
"Goddess, Elias, don't you see this? It's all your fucking fault. That bastard wouldn't have followed me into this mansion had there not been a first attempt in the dungeons in the first place!" I screamed, placing my hands over my head, rubbing my temples.
"And that is why I hunted him down and clawed his dick off!" Elias shouted, and you could hear a needle drop from the silence that followed.
