Alpha Kai
I was getting home from the office after a long night when I heard Delaney shouting from the kitchen, followed by Elias's shouts. So I proceeded there, first because I wanted to know what was going on—according to my brother, she had slept well after their escapades. Secondly because I had missed her and I needed to see her. When I got there, she was leaning on the counter, one hand pressed on her mouth, eyes wide, staring at Elias.
"Delaney?" I called, walking over to her. She met me halfway, throwing herself at me. I wrapped my arms around her, holding her tight against my chest.
"What is going on here?" I turned to the rest, crossing my gaze over each of them. Maribel was smiling, eyes gleaming with pride, Nyra was blinking rapidly, staring at Elias, who was looking at Delaney, his eyes watery.
"It was Elias," Del mumbled, her voice muffled on my chest.
"What do you mean?" I asked as she pulled from the embrace.
"Ri-ck," she didn't have to explain for me to know that she meant that Elias was responsible for Rick's dick or lack thereof.
I looked at Elias. "Is this true?" My chest was filled with pride, knowing that Elias cared enough for Del to punish Rick.
"It is," he replied.
"Is that why you are crying, love?" I asked Del, softening my voice. "Hush, Elias gave Rick exactly what he deserved."
"And Lucy, did she deserve to die to protect my secret?" she asked, making me furrow my eyebrows.
"Lucy was killed by a spell," I reminded, looking at Elias, who hung his head.
"Yes, a spell that Elias cast to protect my secret, Kai. He is a witch." As Delaney spoke, things began making sense to me. My brother and I had known that he was special, but not a hybrid.
"So Ronan and I sentenced Del to death because of you, and you didn't even attempt to speak up to save her?" Were it not that I was holding Delaney, I would have pounced on him and forgotten the relationship we had built over the years.
"Lucy deserved to die," Maribel joined in, stepping forward.
"Tell me why I should not have you thrown into the dungeons and face death right now?" I growled, staring down at Elias. He didn't even flinch, he held his head high, almost as if even the power of my wolf couldn't affect him.
"No, no, please," Nyra begged, her eyes glistening.
"Because Lucy was planning to poison you after the run," Elias deadpanned.
"What!" I blinked once, then twice, processing his words.
"I overheard her the previous night while I was on my usual night run in the woods. She was talking to someone over the phone, saying that if she couldn't have you, then no one else could. She even told the person on the other end that they needed to move fast towards Ronan and make sure Ronan didn't reject her," Elias narrated, his voice distant.
"I wasn't seeing anyone, so why would she assume that there was a she-wolf in my life?" I asked, narrowing my eyes.
"Someone must have told her about Delaney. That's the only reason I can think that triggered her to feel threatened. I mean think about it, the day Delaney arrives, is the day she is heard talking about killing you..." Maribel pointed out, sending a side glance at Elias.
"The only people that knew about Delaney's arrival was you and Elias," I said, pinning my stare at the two.
"I hope you are not accusing us, best remember the last time you did that Delaney almost died. There were also other people when you arrived from Del's pack, maybe you should ask them," Maribel answered, defiant as always. There was no questioning her wisdom, or her decisions. We respected her, and she knew it so I let her response slide.
"Continue Elias," I spoke.
"I thought she had been bluffing until I saw her with a bottle of water she had hinted at giving you after the run," Elias continued, looking at his mate.
Lucy had come onto me several times after my mate died, but I had always rejected her advances. It could have been that what Elias was saying was the truth.
"So instead of telling me you killed her?" I questioned, rubbing Del's back.
"Yes," he nodded once. "I killed two birds with one stone."
"Elias did the right thing, and you know it. Throwing Del in the dungeons is on you, not him. You were the ones who didn't believe her when she said she wasn't a witch, so before you blame Elias, think about what you would have done differently," Maribel spoke in a stern voice. She was right, I was responsible for my actions.
"Did you recognise the other voice?" I asked Elias.
"Sadly no," he stated, then beckoned Nyra close to him. She had been awfully quiet, just hugging herself.
"It must be one of these she-wolves Ronan had flings with," Maribel suggested. "And she is still out there, possibly plotting against him."
"You know what? I had a long night, and right now, I just want to lie down," I said, steering Delaney out of the kitchen.
"Delaney," Elias called, his voice not as firm as it had been while he was answering my questions.
"Save it, Elias," she snapped, leaning to me as we walked out. No other words were spoken until we reached my bedroom.
"I'm sorry, Delaney. I'm sorry about Elias," I said, walking her to my bed. We sat on the edge, our sides touching.
"I don't want to talk about that right now. How was your night?" She changed the topic, making it clear that she didn't want to dwell on it.
"Well, busy. I hear you had a good one." She smiled briefly, her cheeks turning pink almost instantly.
"Do you want to have a good morning?" she asked in a breathless whisper. I didn't miss the innuendo in her voice or the way she bit her lower lip.
"That is unless you want to rest," she added, licking her lips so slowly and sensually, making my manhood stir beneath my trousers. I had bathed in the office and even taken my breakfast there, so I was set.
"It can wait," I stated, cupping her jaw and turning her face. I brushed my thumb over the corner of her lips. Just like that the air around us changed, no longer thick with tension but heavy with want, with the scent of her arousal. I leaned in, pressing my lips on hers gently, taking my time to savour the moment.
At the taste of her, my cock filled up, ready to own her. She ran her hand over my chest, across my belly, and down to my hard-on. I almost jumped when she squeezed me, gently, but hard enough to draw a grunt from me.
My morning was shaping up and I couldn't wait to bury myself deep inside her.
