I huffed, throwing my head back. How could I stay for the rest of the day with a throbbing ache in my core? Talk about the alpha kings beating me in my own game, or was it Nyra's? I had sobered up at the thought of being punished in the worst way possible. I eyed the black trench coat on the office floor, heaving out a sigh. What was even the point of staying in the lingerie if I was going to be ignored?
Almost on the brink of frustration tears, I distanced myself from my mates, soothing my whining wolf on the inside. No sooner had I bent to pick up the coat than Commander Vex and Beta Jeriah walked in. Kai growled when Jeriah's eyes landed on me, sweeping over my form.
"Get out!" Ronan boomed, moving to shield me from the male's eyes. Jeriah stormed out as if he was on fire, while Vex's eyes lingered on me, then on the alpha kings, before walking out.
"Jesus, Del, you almost had me gouge Jeriah's eyes for daring to look at your perfect body," Kai hissed, picking up the trench coat. I didn't say a word as he helped me to put it on. When he grazed my body, my nerves lit up, a reminder that I was in dire need of them.
"Delaney?" Ronan called, standing in front of me, with Kai behind me. I stepped aside, creating distance yet again between us.
"Are you quiet because we didn't make you cum?" Ronan asked while I clenched my fists, trying so hard to push down a rising boiling feeling. How could he ask such a question when he knew the answer to it?
"I will take my leave now," I finally muttered.
Kai narrowed his eyes. "How will you get back to the mansion?" he asked.
"Maybe I will call Nyra. Oh wait," I paused, tapping my chin. "I can't because I don't have a phone."
"Delaney," Ronan stepped forward, prompting me to raise my hand between us. I couldn't handle him being close to me without feeling like my pussy was going to go up in flames.
"We'll get you a new one," he assured, lowering his face.
"In the meantime, you can wait in one of the offices if you don't want to join us for the meeting," Kai said, eyeing my outfit. He couldn't hide the fact that he didn't want me near Jeriah dressed like that.
"Fine," I mumbled, walking out of the office. Jeriah didn't meet my eyes in the corridor. He zoomed past me and into the alpha kings' office, leaving Vex behind.
I didn't pay any mind to her, thinking about what I was going to do next. Sitting down in an office wasn't something I was going to do. Just as I passed in front of her, Vex shot her hand out and grabbed mine. I looked at her hand around my wrist, then lifted my eyes to her face, one brow arched.
"A she-wolf being rejected by her mates is unheard of," she whispered, her lips stretching into a mocking smirk.
I craned my head, trying to get a better visual of her face since she was taller than me. "Let go of me," I stated, pinning a calm gaze at her even though beneath was a brewing storm.
"Hurt because even after seducing them, they still turned you away?" I didn't pull my hand from hers, or even attempt to.
"You know it makes me recount the number of times Ronan has made me cum in that office," she mocked, her words eliciting a low menacing growl from me.
A fire ignited low in my gut when she mentioned Ronan. It spread up my spine, coiling with a storm of a boiling feeling that left my skin buzzing with electricity. My claws extended in an instant, my wolf threatening to take charge faster than I could comprehend, to show Vex that Ronan was ours. I knew Vex was a trained warrior, lethal even, but that didn't count when it came to my mates.
"You had your chance with him, and yet he didn't see you worthy of making you his chosen mate," I said, the words coming from deep in my throat.
Vex smirked, but I noticed a quick twitch in her jaw and a flicker of something behind her eyes. "Oh, sweet Delaney." She stepped closer, still holding my wrist. "I didn't desperately beg him to choose him, like you were doing stripping in the office," she mocked, dragging the words with a smirk.
I drew in a sharp breath through my nose, forcing my claws to retract even though what I really wanted was to claw the smirk off her face. That wasn't the time to lose control, no, it was the time to show her that she couldn't affect me. I couldn't deal with Chloe and then start dealing with Vex too going after Ronan.
"I know every inch of his body. I know what turns him on, what makes him cum, what gets him going for the entire night..." She trailed off, spotting a dreamy yet mocking look. The fire in my gut flared, my lips curling.
"Surely you can't possibly think you were the only she-wolf he was fucking," I spoke. "You were just a fling of his past, while I am his mate, his present, and his future. And that, my dear, is the difference between us." I pulled my wrist from her grip, holding her gaze until she finally blinked. Her jaw tensed, her eyes narrowing. She clenched her fists, looking like she was ready to strike, but she held back when I let the aura of my wolf just slip slightly. I knew what she could do, she had brought everyone down on their knees, and she knew it too.
"One more thing, you should probably go in search of your mate. I mean, aren't you a little old to be mateless?" I walked away, not looking back. My skin was hot, adrenaline still pulsing through my veins when I spotted an empty office down the corridor and got inside. My eyes fell on the office phone on the desk, and I picked it up and dialled my father's number offhand.
"Dad," I whispered when he picked up.
"Del?" His voice was heavier than usual.
"Are you okay?" I breathed, sinking into the office chair. For some reason, my breathing was quickening.
"I should be asking you that after putting yourself and Nyra in danger. The alpha kings told me," he replied, taking in a deep breath, one he usually did before chastising me. But at that moment, all I wanted was his voice without being reprimanded.
"We are okay. Please don't scold me. We haven't talked in like forever; don't ruin it, please." I exhaled, gripping the phone tighter against my ear. He paused, taking in another loud breath.
"There is something I need to tell you," he said, his tone making my stomach clench.
I waited, tapping my foot on the floor. "Dad?" I called when he paused again. What could be so bad that he couldn't relay without delaying?
"Baby, I got a phone call earlier today from an unknown number. The caller's voice was distorted and masked, but the message, goddess, the message Del..." He trailed off.
"What did the caller say?" I pressed, trying to hold my cool.
"It was a warning. That for killing the rogues, the kingdom was going to pay. Two lives for one life."
That meant that six more people were going to be slaughtered by the witches and the rogues if Elias and I didn't perform the protection spell.
