An hour later, after freshening up and cooling down, I finally went downstairs. For some reason I wasn't hungry, even though werewolves had big appetites. It was like after the spell I just became full, and I couldn't explain why.
"I'm telling you, only Delaney can make the alpha kings brood like that." I walked in on Nyra talking to Elias, Maribel, and someone I wasn't expecting to see...Carter.
"I noticed yesterday that there was trouble in paradise," Maribel responded in the same words she had used before the spell, adding a chuckle.
"You know what I think?" Carter said, smirking. Elias's back was facing me, so I couldn't see his expression, but I was sure he was glaring at Carter. The tension in that kitchen, despite the teasing, was almost palpable.
"I think you should all mind your fucking business," I joined in, heading for the fridge. They all turned to look at me, with Carter scratching his head, Nyra lowering her eyes, and Maribel shrugging. Elias was staring at me, observing as if trying to read into me.
"At least we know the alpha kings are the only brooding ones," Nyra mumbled under her breath as I pulled out a jug of milk. I didn't say a word as I crossed over to the shelves for a glass.
"How are you feeling?" Elias asked as I pulled a stool beside him, stressing the word 'feeling.' I knew what he meant, he was still worried about what happened after the spell and thought that the energy phase would fade.
"Very well," I answered, sipping the milk. Nyra cleared her throat, while Maribel excused herself. I hadn't forgotten that there was something she needed to tell me, so I would make sure to ask later.
"Are you sure?" he insisted, making Nyra squint her eyes. She didn't know about the spell, and if Elias continued asking questions, then she would start asking her own.
"Oh yes." I forced a light laugh, brushing a few strands of hair from my face. "Just surprised to see some people here," I added, giving Carter a side glance.
"I'm sorry I didn't come to see you sooner," Carter stated, his eyes not even meeting mine.
"After the attack, I decided to stay in my room in the quarters to avoid a lot of issues with the alpha kings and..." He trailed off, looking at Elias, who glared at him. It was evident that there was bad blood between them, and who could blame either of them?
"I have some errands to run," Elias said, standing. He walked over to Nyra and kissed her really deeply and passionately. I had to look away because their open affection reminded me of the one I received from my mates, or lack thereof.
After Elias left, it was just Nyra, Carter, and I. Almost a minute passed on, each one of us quiet. "I'm sorry, guys, I couldn't defend you that night." Carter broke the silence.
"It's okay, Carter. The good thing is that we are all okay, and that is all in the past," Nyra the always forgiving one, stated, flashing a brief smile at Carter while I glared at her.
"You know what? I need fresh air," I mumbled, getting off the stool. Chilling out at the gazebo would really help cool me down. Nyra followed me out, a glass of juice in her hand. None of us said a thing until we settled in the gazebo.
"Talk to me, Delaney, what's wrong?" she asked quietly. "You didn't say much when you slept over," she added.
"Your plan failed." I paused, letting out a loud breath. "Terribly," I finished.
"No way the alpha kings were able to resist you," she spoke, shaking her head.
"They didn't," I mumbled, biting my lip.
"So how did the plan fail?" she probed. I went ahead and told her how the alpha kings had denied me an orgasm twice, leaving out the part where I was so tempted to touch myself for some relief.
She was quiet for a few minutes, tapping the side of her glass. "I have an idea," she said excitedly.
"No, no, Nyra. Your idea is the one that has gotten me into this dry spell mess," I whined, shaking my head.
"You haven't even listened to what I have to say," she complained, setting the glass on the wooden table. "Look, I know of a toy shop in the town's capital," she added.
"A toy shop?" I squinted my eyes, wondering what she was trying to accomplish.
"A sex toy shop," she whispered, moving closer to the edge of the seat. We were seated on opposite sides, facing each other.
"And how is that going to help me?" I asked, curiosity piquing.
"Don't be stupid, Del. We will get you enough toys to have fun with. If they can't give you what you want, then you can get it somewhere else," she explained, wiggling her eyebrows.
Making myself cum wouldn't be so bad at all. "Wait, how do you know about this shop?" I tilted my head, looking at her.
"Elias told me about it, and that's besides the point. Are you in or not?" she asked, drowning the entire juice.
"Don't even answer. You can't stay looking like you are mourning, frustrated out of your mind because of sex. We are going, come on." She pulled me up, dragging me out of the gazebo.
"Wait, who is even going to take us there?" I asked, just as Carter rounded off the corner of the mansion, heading towards us. Nyra looked at him, then at me.
"Absolutely not, Nyra. I am in this sexual mess because I tried defending him," I whisper-yelled, waving my hand in front of her face.
"But you just said it was me," she argued.
"Well it all started with defending Carter, then your seduction plan that left me sexually frustrated," I defended, looking the other side, away from her. Technically, if I hadn't defended Carter and threatened to reject my mates, they wouldn't have denied me pleasure.
"No one has to know," she whispered back, spotting a smile when Carter came near.
"For dragging us into the attack the other night," she began, addressing him. "You need to do something for us."
"But you told me that it was okay and that it's in the past." Carter blinked, looking at Delaney.
"Well, I lied," Nyra shrugged. "Are you going to help, or would you rather the alpha kings continue punishing Nyra for defending you?"
"Alright," Carter mumbled.
"Good, we are going to town then." Nyra dragged me away, beckoning Carter to follow.
"Are you out of your mind? The alpha kings will kill me, that is, if they find out before your mate Nyra!" Carter yelled, catching up with us.
"Who said you are driving us alone? Elias hasn't left yet. Your work is to convince him to take us with him to town," Nyra explained, raising her head.
"Why can't you do it? He's your mate?" he asked, throwing his hands in the air.
"Because since we went for the run, my punishment is staying locked up in this compound. Find a way to convince him to take us with him. Nyra wins, and I get to step out, and everyone gets happy at the end of it all."
Carter groaned, running a hand through his hair. "Fine, I'll talk to him, just because you are my best friends.
"And make it convincing, Carter," Nyra added sweetly, tossing her hair over her shoulder, earning a chuckle from me.
Carter caught up with Elias just before he reached his car. From where we stood behind the pillar, we could see the two men exchanging stiff and hushed words. After some minutes, Elias glanced over us once, but we couldn't make out his expression. Almost immediately Carter jogged towards us, with a sheepish smile.
"He said yes!" he relayed, looking at us as if he was waiting for a gift or a congratulatory message. "You owe me for making me talk to a man who wants to strangle me."
"We owe you nothing," I said, walking past him. As we approached the SUV, Elias turned to face Nyra, then me, his expression unreadable.
As we left the estate, my neck tingled, a feeling I couldn't explain crawling up my spine. It was something I had never felt before, insisting, knocking. It was like seeing a heavy dark cloud right before heavy destructive rains.
