I had just picked up my brand new Rolls Royce Ryker had surprised me with a few days ago. I was so excited to take it for a spin, but now I was regretting ever getting out of the house. As I was loading up my groceries in front of the supermarket, I noticed a small dent on the side of the car. My heart sank - I couldn't believe it!
That car cost a freaking fortune and I had just gotten it. I ran my fingers over the dent, trying to assess the damage.
How could I have let something happen to it already?
I crouched down, brow furrowed in concentration as I inspected the damage more closely. Maybe it wasn't as bad as it looked. Perhaps a quick trip to the body shop could have it fixed up as new before Ryker even noticed.
Just as I was about to stand, a car slammed right into me and I was thrown forward, crashing to the ground.
Pain shot through my leg and I was lying there on the pavement, groaning. When I looked up, blinking away the stars, I saw that witch Nina strutting towards me with the most smug look on her face. "Oops, sorry Selena! Didn't see you there," she said, appearing to be all innocent. Yeah right, like I was buying that act. I could see the satisfaction in her eyes.
"Why did you hit me?" I cried out. "Are you blind or something?"
Nina tutted, shaking her head. "Oh, come now, darling.
It was an accident. I was simply pulling out of my parking spot and didn't realize you were standing there like a moron." Her gaze flicked to the Rolls Royce, and I could smell the jealousy. "Though I suppose I can understand why you might think otherwise, given the... special treatment Kieran has been showing you lately."
I let out a frustrated groan, my fingers digging into the gravel of the parking lot. "Special treatment? What are you talking about?"
"Don't play dumb with me, Selena. Did Kieran buy this car for you hmm? How dare you trap Kieran around your little finger? He can barely even spare a moment for me anymore because he's too busy chasing after you.
I don't appreciate you monopolizing his attention, you little gold-digger."
I rolled my eyes. "That's not my fault you can't keep your man," I replied curtly.
Just then, I saw Macey coming out of the supermarket, eyes widening when she spotted me on the ground. She rushed over, kneeling down next to me. "Selena! What happened?" she asked in concern.
Nina just smirked. "This is only the beginning, darling," she said to me, then turned and sauntered back to her car, driving off. I was so relieved Macey was there.
"My leg hurts so bad," I told her, wincing. "Nina hit me from behind and I fell." I explained the whole situation to her.
Macey's eyes widened in shock. "That's terrible! Are you hurt? We need to get you to the hospital right away."
I nodded weakly. "My leg... I think it might be broken." "Okay, just hold on." Macey slipped an arm around my shoulders, helping me to my feet as gently as she could. "I'll drive you myself. We need to get you looked at."
I leaned heavily on her, squeezing my eyes tight as I hobbled toward my car. My adrenaline was pumping and I was still in shock over what had just happened. That witch Nina - I knew she was always jealous of me and Kieran, but I never thought she'd stoop this low. I wasn’t even interested in her stupid Kieran! I was so done with him already. This day could not have gotten any worse.
Once we arrived, the nurses immediately whisked me away, bombarding me with questions. I explained what happened, trying my best to hold back tears. They ushered me into an exam room, where the doctor came in and examined my leg.
"It looks like you may have a minor fracture," he said, frowning. "We'll need to get some X-rays to be sure, but you' likely need a cast."
I let out a moan, clearly frustrated. This was the last thing I needed right now. I was supposed to be taking on new projects at work, not stuck in the hospital with a broken leg.
The doctor left to order the X-rays, and Macey squeezed my hand reassuringly.
"Don't worry, Selena. Everything's going to be okay. I'm here for you."
I gave her a weak smile, grateful to have such a caring friend. But deep down, I was seething.
Nina was going to pay for this. I didn’t know how or when, but I was not going to let her get away with this. The old Selena who could be messed with was dead and gone.
As I waited for the X-rays, my mind raced with thoughts of revenge. Maybe I could key her car, or pour sugar in her gas tank. The possibilities were endless.
Finally, the doctor returned with the results.
"Just as I suspected - a minor fracture in your tibia. We'll need to put you in a cast for 4-6 weeks to allow it to heal properly."
I groaned in frustration for what seemed like the tenth time that day. As the nurses started wrapping the cast around my leg, I couldn’t help but wonder what Ryker was going to think. He was going to be so upset when he finds out what happened. I know he was going to insist on taking care of me, but I didn’t want to be a burden. I'm supposed to be his equal, not some helpless damsel in distress. Once the cast was on, I settled into the bed to rest.
"I'm just glad you're alright," Macey said, giving my hand another gentle squeeze. "When I saw Nina hit you, I was so worried. I'm sorry I couldn't do more to stop her."
I shook my head. "Don't apologize, Mace. You were there for me when I needed you most. I don't know what I would have done without you."
Just then, the door to my hospital room burst open and Kieran came rushing in, his eyes wild with concern. My heart dropped - the last thing I wanted to deal with right now was Kieran and his drama.
