"Selena!" he cried, rushing to my bedside. "Are you okay? What happened?"
I folded my arms across my chest, trying to keep the irritation out of my voice. "What are you doing here, Kieran?"
He looked taken aback. "What do you mean? I came as soon as I heard you were in the hospital. I had to make sure you were alright."
I scoffed. "How did you even find out? We're not exactly joined together anymore."
Kieran shook his head calmly. "We're mates, Selena. How many times do I have to tell you that?" He reached out to take my hand, but I pulled away.
I scoffed in disbelief. "Mates? How many times do I have to reject that idea before it sinks in? We are not mates, Kieran. I made that perfectly clear."
His jaw tightened, a muscle in his cheek twitching.
"Well, I've rejected your rejection," he retorted stubbornly."I felt that you were in trouble, and I knew I had to come to you."
I rolled my eyes, wincing as the movement sent a fresh spike of pain through my leg. "I don't know what kind of game you're playing, Kieran, but I want no part of it. Now, would you please just leave?"
"I'm not going anywhere, Selena," he growled. "Not until I get some answers. What happened to you? Who did this?" He gestured to my bandaged leg.
"Nina," I said simply. "Your precious little Nina did this to me."
Kieran's eyes widened in shock. "What? No, that can't be true," he protested. "Nina would never hurt anyone, she's too... too fragile, too delicate. She couldn't
possibly--"
"Well, she did," I interrupted harshly. "She attacked me, Kieran. I don't know what her problem is, but she's the one who put me in this bed."
Kieran shook his head vehemently. "No, no, that's not possible. You must be mistaken."
I scoffed in disgust. "Mistaken? Macey saw the whole thing happen. She's the one who brought me here after Nina's little... episode."
Macey nodded solemnly. "It's true. I saw Nina attack Selena. She was the one who did this."
Kieran shot Macey an angry gaze. "And who the hell are you supposed to be ?"
"Macey is my friend," I interjected, my voice firm. "She's the one who helped me after the accident."
Kieran scoffed. "Well, thank you for your service, but I think it's time for you to leave now."
"Excuse me?" Macey said, her eyebrows raising. "I'm not going anywhere Alpha Kieran. Selena needs me here."
"Like hell you are," Kieran snapped. "This is a private matter between Selena and me. I won't have some stranger interfering."
I could feel my blood boiling. "Macey is not going anywhere, Kieran. She's staying right here."
Kieran's gaze flicked back to me. "Fine. But we need to talk about what happened."
I let out a frustrated sigh. "Nina hit me on purpose that's what happened, what else do you want to know?."
He shook his head stiffly, his expression unreadable. "Well, even if that's true, it was probably just an accident. Nina would never intentionally hurt someone, especially not you."
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. "Are you serious right now, Kieran? You're actually defending her? After what she did to me?"
He held up his hands, his expression placating. "I'm not defending her. I'm just saying that there must be some misunderstanding. Nina wouldn't do this."
I gritted my teeth feeling the strong urge to give him a slap. "Oh, please. You think you know her better than I do? Nina is far from delicate. You know what? Please just leave already, you’re giving me a headache.”
Suddenly, Kieran's gaze was drawn to the necklace hanging around my neck - the one Ryker had given me just a few days ago when he marked me. His eyes widened, and his expression shifted from concern to pure fury.
"What the fuck is that?" he snarled in a low dangerous tone.
I followed his gaze, my hand reaching up to touch the pendant. "This?" I said in a calm voice. "This is a gift that Ryker gave me."
Kieran's face contorted with rage and he looked like he had been betrayed. "Ryker? That bastard? What the hell are you doing with his necklace?"
I raised my chin defiantly. "I'm wearing it, because we are mates..Because I want to.Because Ryker gave it to me, and I care about him."
Kieran's nostrils flared, "So you allowed him mark you? Well you’re mine, Selena,You've always been mine.
And I won't let that bastard take you away from me."
Macey, bless her heart, stepped in, her voice calm and measured. " Alpha Kieran, I think it's best if you leave. Selena needs to rest, and you're only upsetting her."
Kieran turned on Macey, his eyes blazing. "Stay out of this, you meddling bitch," he snarled. "This is between me and Selena."
"Kieran!" I snapped, my voice sharp. "Don't you dare talk to my friend like that. If you can't be civil, then get the hell out of here."
