I could see the rage boiling in her eyes."How dare you? Kieran is mine, and I'm the only one who can be his Luna. You need to stay away from him, Selena, or else."
I let out a weary sigh, feeling a headache starting to form. "Nina, I don't want Kieran. I've made that clear time and time again but I guess you’re really either just dumb or a crazy fellow. If you really want to be with him, then you should focus on proving yourself worthy, not on trying to chase me away."
She let out a harsh laugh, her gaze boring into me.
"Oh, please. Kieran feels nothing but pity for you.
You're nothing more than a pathetic, worthless woman, and he knows it. I'm the one who's truly important to him, the one he loves."
I could feel my irritation ising, but I refused to let her get a rise out of me. "If that's the case, then why hasn't he married you yet even after he left me on the altar for you? Answer me."
Her eyes flashed with fury, and for a moment, I thought she might actually pull my hair or something. But then she smiled wickedly. "Let me let you in on a little secret. Kieran is wrapped around my finger, and I can manipulate him however I please. I'm the only one who matters to him, the only one he'll ever love."
I couldn’t help but roll my eyes, growing increasingly tired of her theatrics. "That's a rather bold claim."
"Oh, I am very aware of what I’m saying. Honestly, I couldn’t watch the both of you getting married that day. So I pretended to scrape my leg just so I could bring your wedding to a pause. And it worked like magic. He abandoned you, running over to me because of a silly fake scrape."
"You are really a manipulative witch, aren’t you?" I looked at her in disgust.
"Yes honey, but who would believe you? And I’m going to prove it to you again how I call the shots. Watch the show and enjoy."
I watched in confusion wondering what the hell she was up to this time around. She suddenly staggered backward, almost tumbling to the ground and her hands clutching at her chest.
In an instant, Kieran was by her side, cradling her in his arms. "Nina! What happened? Are you alright?"
She looked up at him, her expression one of pure fake vulnerability. "Kieran, she... she pushed me! I think my heart is-"
But before she could finish, I cut her off, my voice laced with anger. "That's a lie, Kieran, and you know it. Nina is nothing but a manipulative, deceitful woman, and I definitely didn’t push her. She only pretended to fall to get your attention as always."
Kieran glared up at me. "What are you even talking about? Why would you push Nina when she's so fragile?"
I took a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves. It was time to expose Nina's true colors, once and for all. "Because, Kieran, Nina is not as innocent as she pretends to be. She's been lying to you this entire time, and I have the recording to prove it."
“What stupid recording?” The colors seemed to be draining off her face. “You are trying to make me look bad in front of Kieran again just like you have always done?”
Her eyes darted to my hand in panic though, not knowing what to expect.
“Oh just spare us the sob story. I don’t have to speak so much, all I’m going to do is show you,” I said in a calm voice.
Without waiting any longer, I pressed play on the recording, and Nina's voice was suddenly loud and clear. The conversation we just had was playing. I had been smart enough to press the recording without her knowledge cause I could sense she was going to say something incriminating. The entire hall was quiet now and everyone was listening with keen interest.
Kieran's eyes bulged with shock."Nina, what... what the heck is this?"
Nina let out a desperate, panicked laugh. "Kieran, you have to believe me! I would never lie to you, you know that. I love you, and you promised to take care of me after my parents died. You vowed to protect me for the rest of your life!"
But Kieran was having none of it. He shook his head, his expression one of utter disappointment. "I just heard what you said! I thought I knew you, but this... this is unforgivable. You've been playing with me this entire time?"
Nina's face crumpled, and she reached out to him, her eyes pleading. "Kieran, please, you have to understand.
I was just trying to protect myself, to make sure I had a future. Isn't that what you want for me?”
Kieran's expression was one of pity and regret as he looked down at the woman he once believed over everyone else. "Nina , I'm sorry, but I can't keep the promise I made before. Not after what I've learned, not after the way you've betrayed my trust."
He shook his head, his voice heavy with disappointment. "I treated you like a sister. I thought I could count on you, that you were someone I could trust. But you've shown me that I was wrong. You're nothing but a liar and I want nothing to do with the likes of you, you little brat."
Nina started shedding crocodile tears.
"No, Kieran, that's not true! I love you, i've always loved you. Please, you have to believe me. Please don’t leave me, I have no one else!"
But Kieran stepped back, putting distance between them.
I watched as Nina’s expression shifted from desperation to pure rage at me.
"This is all your fault, Selena! You're the one who's been trying to ruin everything, to tear Kieran and I apart!"
I met her gaze calmly, refusing to be cowed by her outburst. "That's where you're wrong. I haven't been trying to ruin anything. I've simply been trying to expose the truth, to show Kieran the real you."
I scrolled through my phone."And I have the evidence to prove it."
