The second thing I didn’t expect was for Ryker to get down on one knee days after I told him about my pregnancy. He was actually proposing and I just stood there frozen staring at the beautiful ring. I was so happy yet I was uncertain.
"I am so happy that you are proposing to me but Ryker, I have to ask...are you sure about this? I mean, with the baby and everything, I don't want you to feel like you have to propose just because..."
He cut me off with a firm shake of his head. "Selena, stop. This has nothing to do with the baby. I've been wanting to propose to you for months now.And I want nothing more than to spend the rest of my life with you, whether we have a baby or not."
I smiled sadly. "It warms my heart to hear that and trust me I want to marry you more than anything else in this world. But I just want to be sure. How about this? Why don’t we wait?."
He looked a little bit sad but tried for a smile. "Wait till how long?"
"Till after our baby is born. After our baby grows up a little bit. If by then you are still sure you want to get married to me, then we would be together. "
He nodded with a small smile and kissed the back of my hand affectionately. "Of course my Luna, I would wait for you."
Meanwhile as for Kieran, he had followed me into this country and was lurking around not wanting to give me a break.
On one particular night, I was on my way to my house from baby shopping . As I got out from my car approaching the mansion I shared with Ryker, I couldn’t help but glance over at the black car parked a few houses down. I held my breath as I instantly recognized it.
Kieran's car. He was here. Again.
I quickened my pace, desperate to get inside and away from his prying eyes. But just as I was about to reach the door, I heard his familiar voice calling out to me.
"Selena! Selena, wait!"
I clenched my jaw, my grip tightening on the shopping bags.
I should have known he wouldn't give up that easily.
Slowly, I turned around to face him, doing my best to keep my expression neutral.
"Kieran," I said without any emotion. "What are you doing here?"
He was standing just a few feet away, his eyes pleading and his hands stretching towards me. "Please, Selena, I need to talk to you. I've been trying to see you for weeks, but Ryker won't let me anywhere near you."
I felt a spark of irritation flare up inside me. Of course Ryker has been keeping Kieran away - he's been the one protecting me from Kieran's persistent, and frankly, obsessive, attempts to get back into my life.
"Ryker's just protecting me from you," I replied coolly. "You need to leave. I don't want you here."
But Kieran didn’t back down. Instead, he took a step closer, his expression growing more desperate.
"Selena, please. I've come all this way for you. I've given up everything just to be with you again. Can't you see how much I love you?"
I rolled my eyes to the back of my head. "Love me?" I scoffed. "If you really loved me, you would respect my wishes and leave me alone."
He shook his head adamantly. "No, you don't understand. I can't just let you go. You're the only one for me, don't you see that?"
Before I could even react, he was suddenly standing right in front of me, his arms reaching out to pull me into an embrace. I quickly took a step back, dropping the bags to the ground as I put my hands up and pushed him away.
"Don't touch me!" I cried angrily. "I'm sick and tired of this, Kieran! You need to leave me alone, or I'll call the police!"
His face fell, and for a moment, I saw a flicker of hurt in his eyes. But just as quickly, it was replaced by a new determination.
"What else can I do, Selena?" he pleaded. "I've chased you all the way here, I've sent Nina away from my pack and even out of the country so it's just you and me. I've done everything I can to prove my love for you. Please, just give me one more chance!"
I shook my head stiffly. "No. There's nothing you can do. This is over. I'm done."
Without another word, I turned and hurried inside, slamming the door behind me.
I leaned back against it, my heart beating loudly in my chest as I tried to catch my breath. Tears of frustration and fear stung my eyes, and I found myself wondering how much longer I could keep this up.
It had been weeks since I fled my hometown, desperate to escape Kieran's relentless pursuit. I thought I had finally found a safe haven here, but it was clear that he was not going to give up that easily. And now, with him showing up on my doorstep, I was more on edge than ever.
I knew I needed to call the police, to get a restraining order against him.
With a heavy sigh, I pushed myself away from the door and made my way to the kitchen to fix dinner for Ryker. I was wearing a baggy sweatshirt over baggy trousers so he could not notice my belly that had slightly started protruding out. He was going to go crazy if he found out I was carrying Ryker’s child.
As I was taking out some items from the fridge, my gaze drifted out the window, and I couldn’t help but notice Kieran's car still parked down the street.
My stomach twisted into knots, and I quickly pulled the curtains closed, blocking out the unwelcome sight. I knew he was still out there, watching, waiting. And the thought of it made me feel sick to my stomach. That night when Ryker returned home I told him everything. The very next day, we got a restraining order from Kieran. And after that, I didn’t see him again.
