Kathy looked around the shop. It was busy, as always, but not any less scary. People were hustling around, carelessly picking up jars with no care for the small creatures inside, then placing them back on the shelf.
Kathy was still trapped in one and had several bruises from being mishandled, but she was used to it by now.
With a soft sigh, and a bit of hope leaving, Kathy curled into a ball against the glass and waited for the shop to close.
Just as she closed her eyes, she could feel the presence of something gazing at her. She didn't dare open her eyes, but instead turned herself the opposite direction, expecting the jar to be lifted with force.
Soon she peeked her eyes open slightly, still feeling the weight of piercing eyes on her. She stifled her cough and glanced at the floor below her. Her heart raced when she realized the jar was no longer on the shelf.
She quickly sat up, pushing herself almost instantly to the other side of the jar. Kathy's mind was racing faster than her heart, as she watched her surroundings move.
Whoever was holding the jar was buying her, and Kathy was more than scared. Would he be cruel like her past owner, beating her whenever she disobeyed? She closed her eyes and tucked into the safety of her arms hoping that there was some sort of mistake.
She could feel the hot tears stream down her cheeks as her fate was sealed. After the cashier finished speaking with the mysterious man, he began to walk again.
Kathy knew she wasn't going back to the shop, for which she was glad, but she felt safer there than in the hands of someone who could be cruel.
The sound of the car door opening and closing erupted, causing Kathy the plug her ears at the sharp noise, but she quickly tightened herself in the curled position she was in.
The jar made a noise, the sound of the lid being turned. Kathy couldn't have possibly been anymore frightened than she already was, so she bit her lip to hold in her yelp as she waited for the man to grab her.
Kathy kept her eyes closed as something gentle brushed against her head. She felt a wave of embarrassment and shock rush over as it happened again, this time both her head and her back.
Kathy scrambled away, her eyes bolting open almost instantly, but the man's fingers easily slid under her thin form. Kathy still tried to crawl back into the jar, but the man already curled his fingers around her.
She couldn't help herself from trying to escape as the man lifted her into the air. Her struggles became more frantic as she neared the man's shirt pocket, but doing so made his hold more firm.
"It's alright, calm down." A voice boomed over Kathy. She flinched at his voice, hearing it for the first time.
Kathy tried her hardest to not move after his comment, as he placed her in his pocket and began to drive somewhere. She feared for her life what would come of her if she disobeyed his orders.
Kathy held her breath as something gently pressed against her from the outside. She could barely keep herself from moving an inch, but she knew she had to.
"My name is Ryan. Ryan Hank. I will be taking care of you from here on out, okay? So you don't need to be scared. I can feel you shaking." The man spoke with his voice low. He moved his hand away, placing it back on the steering wheel.
Kathy heard his words, but something inside of her mind wasn't registering. All her mind told her was he was going to keep her, as a pet.
She shuddered and ignored her first "commands" and snuggled against the fabric. She coughed a few times, wiped her running nose, and slowly faded into a peaceful sleep.
Kathy woke up with a yawn, stretching her arms and legs at the same time. She had never felt so relieved of sleep or stress in her entire life.
She slowly blinked her eyes open and took in her new surrounds, seeing that she was no longer in a shirt, but something felt wrong.
Kathy stood instantly, feeling the rush of memories overtake her.
"R-R-Ryan?" She called out, hoping to hear a reply of some sort, but nothing came. Kathy crept to the side of the drawer she was on and looked down.
The descent was far too high to get down from, and if she tried she could end up injured.
Kathy quickly scooted away and hugged herself. The room she was in, was the room of her last owner, who beat her a countless amount of times.
Kathy suddenly heard the laugh of "him", rather it was Ryan or someone else, it was getting nearer and the sound of footsteps shook the ground.
Kathy let out a scream as a dark, human shapes figure stood in front of her and raised his hand.
Kathy held her breath as the hand came towards her at lightning speed to hit her.
Kathy sat up instantly. Her face was sweaty and her heart raced faster than she could think. Her surroundings were blurred, very badly, and she could tell that she was crying as a few more tears rolled down her cheeks.
Even if she couldn't see properly, she still tried to scan her surroundings, gaining no luck in return. She felt the ground under her, as a cough left her mouth, and rubbed it. It was so soft!
Kathy had never felt something this soft before. She staggered to stand on her wobbly legs and took a step forward on the strange surface.
"Hey."
Kathy stumbled backwards, startled by the voice. Her heart pounded in her chest and her eyes began to water, sending more hot tears down her cheeks. The voice was soft but Kathy was still scared.
"Hey... I didn't mean to frighten you.." The voice said, even quieter than before. Kathy stiffened as something rubbed her back.
"Calm yourself, it's just me. Ryan. You were crying on your sleep." Ryan whispered softly. Kathy felt the tips of his fingers tips brush softly on her head, making her instantly relax. She tried to keep herself on guard for the worst, but she couldn't help herself. "Ryan" was making it difficult.
She laid herself down and yawned. She wondered, was she really in the hands of a trust worthy person? She hoped so.
She felt Ryan continue to gently brush his fingers against her head, when he rubbed a year away from her face.
Kathy jerked herself up and backed into something. Why in tarnation would he do that? It was so soft..
"You okay?" Ryan whispered, curling his fingers slightly over Kathy.
She flinched not realizing that she was already leaning against them.
Her sight finally restored all the way, and she looked at Ryan with a confused yet bewildered look.
He just smiled slightly and began to reach to Kathy's wet face, to run away another tear.
She watched with anxiety at his approaching hand, but as soon as his finger softly touched her cheek, it left her. She felt a bunch of tears spurring from her eyes as she reached out and grabbed a hold of Ryan's finger.
She gently hugged it and cryed as much as she could.
Ryan sat up in his bed, and watched the poor girl in his hand, unsure of what to do. He set the finger the little girl was clenching onto, against her cheek again and began to rub in circular motions.
Kathy looked up at Ryan and smiled feebly.
"Thank you."
